    Your contributions support this content. It sounds cliché but it's true. Whether it's travel expenses, vehicle repair, or medical costs for urushiol poisoning (or rockfalls, beestings, hand slices, toxic sap, etc), your financial support allows this content to continue so the beauty of Earth's flora can be made accessible to the public. At a time when so much is disappearing beneath the human footprint, CPBBD is willing to do whatever it takes to document these plant species and the ecological communities they are a part of before they're gone for good.

    I feel you Joey, I stopped a bit of destruction in my hood but it feels like a losing battle. Finally got several clumps of A tuberosa and seeing self seeding but no damn caterpillar action. Just 4 years ago I had lots of them. Just bad maintenance practice everywhere, seriously disappointing. Thanks for getting out there, maybe more people will give a shit.

    This video is interesting because the very first video of yours I saw was "Gradin' the roads real nice" 3-4 years ago about how unnecessary road grading destroyed a population of Asclepias prostrata, now in 2024 after binge watching for years the same video pops up... proof that history repeats itself and humans probably will never change.

      First video I ever saw was of Joey yelling at a type of cucumber in a college greenhouse somewhere, and then showing other plants in the greenhouse. I was so captivated by what he was botanically saying ( and how it was delivered) I immediately subscribed. Still the very best learning channel for hardcore botanical information and awesome flower closeups. Truly highlights the fantastic world of botany (and geology), so grateful for his generosity filming and sharing it all. 🤗🌿💚

    Tony come to my goose-farm next you are near Detroit; we’ll botanize my roadsides filled with endangered species and the old cemeteries filled with the remnants of Oak Openings species. I’ll show you how I haven’t mowed my acreage in 3 years and the transformation using birds to manage it have returned it to 1800’s conditions. ❤

    Here in Italy, people have been taking care of nature for thousands of years - a lot of the population loves having a little garden and cultivate their own heirloom vegetables. On the borders with nature, a lot of biodiversity is thriving. Ophrys, the most exciting plant genus in the world, has thrived immensely the last few thousand years especially because of human involvement.
    The problems is not humanity, it's something inhabiting us, a modern culture that is so degenerate that all what matters is the self.

    • @ourladyofguadalupebotanica6732
      @ourladyofguadalupebotanica6732 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      The concept of 'self' has always been a major driver in people. In the past, self was part of a community and part of the greater whole. You derived self from that community and helping others to maintain you place in that community. That's all gone now. We now have the Tiktok generation - hours upon hours watching cats burp. Values have shifted. Self no longer needs to be an extension of the overall community well-being. Very good point you brought up here.

    • @ringsystemmusic
      @ringsystemmusic หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      community is no longer seen as a higher state of being, it is used as a way to further your own selfish goals

    • @erinmac4750
      @erinmac4750 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well said! Yes, it is certain cultures or attitudes that don't appreciate or live in harmony with nature.
      It's especially difficult these days with our reliance on petrol for transportation and rare earth minerals for our tech. We must do better. 🍀

    • @ramonbril
      @ramonbril หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ourladyofguadalupebotanica6732 thank you, I completely agree, a rotten world.
      Whatcha expect without selection... pure degeneration. Value has to be grown to be maintained.

    00:16:10 Desmanthus illinoensis seedlings smell kind of like chicken soup, oddly enough. Perhaps it's do to tryptophan chemistry. It definitely did not prevent the seedlings from getting eaten my rodents - in fact the rodents seemed to like the taste, kind of like with sunflowers.

    Ohio has these legit island oasis off ramps not every one but some of them are really detailed and have pollinator signage there a lot of farm land and abandonded reclaimed land you jist buy specific parcels in specific locations and hope if you build it right yoi basically get 10 million whatever you want because of how prosperous it once was and it all gets turned back to the land anyway so then you leave it go the way you like it and thats the steward part
