    It's a bit misleading. You mentioned how Costco is up 200% in the last 5 years, but if we look at Tesla, they are up 700% in that time frame.
    Even when looking at FCF, yes, it's one of the most important metrics to look at, but the companies tesla was being compared to in your examples are completely different. Sectors that don't have an insane amount of capex, and a lot more margins (visa). Building all these gigafactories etc. puts a big dent. That's why investors should know these things and then make a decision if it's worth buying into a company that is still growing and has a lot of expenses. My point is a company that continues to rapidly expand will have a lot less fcf than one that has stabilized. Just look at Intel. Look at their fcf and how its plummeted. Look at how much they are spending on all these new fabs. Its obvious their fcf will take a hit, but if you believe these expenses will benefit the company, then I believe this is the time to buy. This is where the big returns are made if you pick right. Now, to be clear I'm not saying this is the time to buy Tesla or Intel, just saying there are reasons fcf is lower, and there are huge potential growth for these expenses, and that Tesla has vastly outperformed Costco in the last 5 years.

    I appreciate your analysis, as I'm new to investing. When you look at operating margin percentages and free cash flow percentages, does a company's growth also need to be taken into account? Likely 2024 will be a very slow growth year (and thats a main driver in the downturn of the stock price), but if Tesla gets back to 30% to 50% growth won't that help increase free cash flow?

    • @furtsmagee1513

    • @Pauljefferson27
      @Pauljefferson27 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Definitely! When evaluating a company's financials, it's important to consider both its growth potential and its profitability measures like operating margin and free cash flow. While 2024 might be a slower growth year for Tesla, if they can regain their 30% to 50% growth rate, it could certainly have a positive impact on their free cash flow. Increased growth can lead to higher revenue and potentially more cash generated by the company. So, growth is definitely a factor to consider when assessing a company's financial health📈💰.I’m an investor, if you want we can have a good chat

It might still go down further tomorrow, but I'm comfortable with the price I paid, and was not willing to risk having it go higher with me on the sidelines. Curious what is the price target? I like to sell otm options so would like to get 100 shares at a reasonable price. Just dipped my toes today for the first time.

    Keep up the great content! I've been watching you for a while, sir. Funny enough, my top 3 largest holdings by far are NFLX, AMZN, and NVDA. I've been investing for 18+ years, and I, too, am utterly obsessed with Free Cash Flow.!
    RE TSLA: I don't understand why people say "Buy the Dip" when it still has a 500+ Billion USD Market Cap... A company of that size needs to have a stronger market position. EVs are just a race to the bottom on profitability, and there's been a massive shift from the more prominent players to go back to Hybrids... Toyota has played this brilliantly since they were initially shunned by investors because they never really dove into EVs like Tesla and GM did. Toyota knows a thing or two about selling and manufacturing high-demand cars. My whole reason for staying away from Tesla all these years is I think it's just been a constant game of "Show me the money," and Elon keeps trying to sell people on what is coming soon... and he keeps delaying and delaying and cutting prices I don't get it... But I'm not seeing all these humanoid robots, robotaxis, FSD, and the thousands of other nonsensical technological promises they will never deliver on. If Elon Musk were a pizza driver, I would not tip him. 🤣
    Just my 2c... Keep up the great content, Joseph!

    There's probably an inverse relationship between tesla's stock price and the number of people who realize there will never be a robotaxi network, hyperloop, or a colony on Mars.

    As Ashwath said, Tesla is like my teenager investment. I also look at it the same way. I agree with his valuation of nearly 180 dollar.

    The game plan didn’t work, trying to take most market share by lower the prices. The marginal gain doesn’t material over volume during a hot interest rate extended period simply. They should start selling the best made model at lower price point to offset the scale up capacity.

    Tesla is simple - if you believe it's only a car company, it's too expensive. If you believe in any of the other things they are working on - AI, Robotics, Energy/Power, etc - then it's probably time to look for an entry point.

    Tesla is a great Bet company, if one day tesla sell 10M cars/year and drop FSD price to 49.99$/month or yearly subscription of 300-400$ this will cause a massive boom into thier cash flown nothing is sure and you have to believe in technology, AI and FSD.

    At this point it's almost impossible to "avoid" Tesla in the news. Even if an article is about an entirely different automaker the media will title it "The Tesla killer" - "The next Tesla" or similar. Whatever "Tesla" gets clicks that's for sure, doubly so if it comes with some negative connotation.

    I have 0 allocation to $TSLA but I do believe you “get extra points” for being interesting and complex. You had such outsized returns in Tesla during its run because people couldn’t understand so they bought the hype. I think if it was just another car company like Rivian, selling pretty much just a truck,it wouldn’t have had the hype run it did from 2016-2022.
    I like boring companies personally so less hype the better imo.

    You compare it to Costco, Visa and Mastercard... + The present cash flow does not matter, it is the future cashflow + they can just stop spending if they want cash flow + operating margins don't need to go up much, revenue does also exist... + please, i beg you to do some research on tesla fsd and energy, these businesses have way higher potential than the cars.
