Phil Cope needed to think this through a bit better. Him and Zeeb WERE Witchfinder General. One without the other is not WG. He should have just called it something else.

I like some of the riffs, and that's about the only positive thing I can say about this album. I bought the CD when it first came out and I was so disappointed. There is no production on the vocals whatsoever. It's really a shame that they tarnished their image by releasing this. The first two albums are masterpieces.
I'd never heard of this album and now I know why. It sounds like a pretty good amateur band having a fun weekend.
There are good riffs here and the drummer is still as sloppy as he was then. I think it's the same drummer.

Exactly. The drummer can play some, lol. He plays parts correct sometimes, gets lucky enough lands on his feet. Very misleading not consistent.
Not for me. Nowhere near the 2 early 80s albums. Lots of criticism aimed at the vocalist, he's not that bad but he's too loud in the mix. The mixing is absolutely terrible. Neither the vocalist or the music itself has a hope of shining here!
Witchfinder General & Witchfynde are some of the most underrated and sexiest sounding NWOBHM bands which ever came about. And which bands like early Mercyful Fate owe a huge debt to. First two are hard to top, but listen to it without comparing and it's a good listen, still, can't help but long for Metal to still embody and keep the feel and sound of the old school, hard to do, especially for "Modern Metal".
MF were writing material by the time both bands released records. Kings and the rest of the band was influenced by 70's prog/hard rock. Also they do not sound like either of those two bands. I like Witchfynde's first album but the rest of their stuff is meh. I find nothing sexy about their sound tbh. Modern metal if we're talking about classic heavy metal is mostly crap with some exceptions. What i hate about it is how overproduced everyone sounds. I have a hard time distinguishing bands. I honestly want to hear a badly produced album just so a band will sound different.
All the new shit sounds the same. Black dhalia gojira cattle d even bands like mastodon all have very cool technical riffs but lack any memorable Melodies in my opinion. There’s nothing that really moves or inspires me.
I agree modern bands dont sound good compared to the old stuff. Loudness war has won. Instrumental aren't allowed to breathe anymore.

I’m surprised there are not more of these sabbath influenced bands. Although the early to mid eighties metal went underground. I remember mtv wanted to ban anything heavy.. MTV had access to all old sabbath songs on filmed and the recent albums with Ronnie James dio from mob rules back in 81, 82. I watched mtv everyday. Back then you visit 5 different houses on average, maybe less. Everyone had mtv on and it sucked. I wasn’t till 2007 I discover TH-cam type in Black Sabbath pissed me off because the initial rush from when it first released. I can’t say that entirely, seeing Black Sabbath, song Black Sabbath first vid 70 is before my time, and seeing it was picnic and breath of fresh air.

Malucooo que bordoada nos juizos... Witchfinder General sonzera do Krlh sou seguidor desde tempos remotos! Quanto às criticas com relação ao vocal, comparações são injustas, eu gostei pra caramba deste vocal, achei cru, visceral... Além do que, muita firula de estúdio tiraria esta atmosfera NWOBHM, tem muita gente com ouvidinho pausterizado por aqui!!!

The record has some good moments, but the vocals suck a bit and generally it's their worst album. They should record it again, with Zeeb.

If they were just starting out as a band of spotty 14 year olds recording a demo in a shed this would be just about forgivable... but they aint, and it's fucking dreadful.
This would be great with Zeeb. This singer ain't cutting it, even though he can sing. His voice doesn't match the music. All in all, there's some great Doom riffs abound here.
I actually think the vocals are fine. They have that doom feel even if people think they are too modern for WFG.
I think it’d be better if they just turned the vocals down and put on some reverb or delay. The way the vocal track is super loud and unprocessed makes it super disappointing to me when he comes in off pitch on that first song
Baffling how this album came out sounding the way it does. The mixing sounds *extremely* unfinished, and the singer is like a worse version of Gary Cherone.

The singer is being unfairly criticised. The problem is not his singing but the fact that the producer did absolutely naught to it. Some vocal reverb and level adjustment would have made this album 20x better. Reverb, or lack thereof, makes or breaks metal albums imo.
Third song sounds like electric funeral.
Music's pretty good, but don't touch Death Penalty ... or Friends of Hell, for that matter.
Much better with Zeeb & Graham.

Some of the music is ok, sounds like they tried to rip off some Sabbath riffs, the vocalist is absolute kyfe...A kinda shitty album because of that...

Vocals also sounds like a million and 1 pub rocks bands you get about the UK made up of old rockers. Why they picked that guy I will never know. They're too at the front of the mix as well, glad I never bought this like all my Witchfinder General fan mates :)
Essa banda é fantástica nas primeiras obras,eu estou ouvindo esse último pela primeira vez,achei os instrumentais bons,boa atmosfera,mas o vocal realmente não se encaixa.Poderiam voltar os originais e reverter isso.Teve uma música da antigas que tocava muito no brasil.

Zeeb era muito melhor, com melhor ressonância e melhor adaptado ao som proto-doom desta incrível banda!

@@miltoncardinallijr.6495 Po Miltão, eu conheço e muito bem ambos os 2 primeiros discos ( tenho o death penalty em vinil, por exemplo) zeeb parkes é incomparavel, se fosse ele cantando nesse disco ai, com certeza seria um grande marco na história do metal dos anos 2000 pra cá, esse album, mas esse vocalista ai novo conseguiu fazer a qualidade final do trampo cair demais...

The singer is perfect for the sound and this album is absolutely good as were the first two but with a better sound production, comments from supermarket customers and housewives don't matter.

Said that, I hold 100% my position: reading the comments it seems to me to listen my wife talking with our neighbors about how people dress and walk...a bunch of useless bullshit. Wtf are they talking about? "The drummer can't do this, can't do that, the singer doesn' deserve.." .this is not Dream Theater (that I love), this band, this record are about character, songwriting, atmosphere, musical genuineness and credibility, all things that you can find inside them. For skills, speed and other prerogatives it need to change band. I insist to say that the sound is perfect and better than the first two records (that I worship), even the studio work is better, perfect for what they play. In the end, sorry for my poor english, it is not my mother language (as you may have guessed) and it's not easy for me to write about something complicated as music. All the best.
