The New Republic did end up reflecting many of the problems within the Rebellion that the Rebels themselves never addressed, while they had the benefit of a common enemy. Most especially the fact that not every member of the Rebel Alliance, or even most members, were fighting to restore the Republic. Many of the larger factions were only fighting for independence and had no intention of joining a theoretical Republic after the civil war. Many others were legitimately criminal elements or simply individuals that had been left with no choice but to fight the Empire; they would have no loyalty after the war, once the Empire was gone, and like Han would have gone back to their old ways. And then there was the simple problem that the Empire was freakin' massive. The Empire for all of its flaws shouldered a massive administrative burden that the New Republic couldn't shoulder without absorbing some of the old elements. And there were simply too many Imperial troops, pilots, and officers for all of them to be held accountable for their actions; the New Republic didn't have a judicial system that could handle it, so many had to just be let go after the cease-fire. And they specifically wanted to avoid any possibility or similarities with the Empire, to the point of making themselves too weak. The New Republic's flaws were notable and profound, though they do have logical explanations. It is something, I rather approve of in the new canon.
@@dungeonguy88 exactly, and on a lower level, the end of Aftermath: Empire's End shows the New Republic fucking over the Bounty Hunters Guild as, from what I've read in The Bounty Hunter Code, in Legends Bounty Hunting was often fully legitimate with the Guild needing to stay in line with Republic and Imperial laws to the point that they still got lots of work from the Republic which had the Jedi Order to deal with the bigger stuff.
“Ba’jur, beskar’gam, ara’nov, aliit; Mando’a bal Mand’alor... an vencuyan mhi. (Education, armor, self-defense, our tribe; our language and our leader... all help us survive)”- Mandalorian Resol’nare Legitimately I hope they use so much legends stuff from like the Resol'nare, Supercommando Codex, etc. Mandalorians are my favorite in SW
Resol'nare, not Resol'nar The 'e' at the end is important, since it's the Mando'a way of desgnating a plural. "Resol'nar" would be "Six Action" "Resol'nare" is "Six Actions"
I'm much more interested in this than the new movie. What I'm hoping for is a well written, adult program that respects the lore, the canon and the franchise.
I alway thought the word Strength was mistaken with Power when it came to the Mandolorian Code, to my mind Power is your psychical strength, your capability to kill or assert your will upon your environment where as Strength is more you strength of Will your pure determination to see something done, to stubbornly stand there and tell the Universe "No you move", a group of Stormtroopers watching over a Slave Gang with blasters ordering them around are Powerful where as the same Slave Gang who revolt and take on the Stormtroopers with pickaxes, rocks or just their barehands are Strong and would be more worthy of a Mandolorians respect (they'd also properly be called stupid if they didn't use the environment to set up ambushes to even the playing field a bit)
We need a dark, thin red line like story dealing with the social fenomena of war. Much like the battle for mimban. Following the code in impossible situations would be interesting to see.
Lester Gordon Han wants to be cold hearted but it's just not in him. At least not to the extent of Thraken-Sal Solo. Dude was just cruel. And not even in the cool kind 💀
I’m pretty sure that the Mandalorian is likely going to follow the super commando code with a twist: just because you’re not a dangerous warrior doesn’t mean you’re not a target, especially when you’ve ordered/payed somebody else to do a crime.
Will the Mandalorians view us Terrans like their distant but way more war thirsty, moral & immoral at the same time and back stepping cousin? Will they view us positively, hatefully or neutral?
@@pyeitme508 I guess a lot of ot would depend on how well we would do in abttle against them. like, the Mandaloriand thought very high of Revan despite, or rather, because he was the one who defeated them.
@@pyeitme508 also, it would depend on the tactics deployed by us. I don´t know how fond Mandalorians would be by flexible defnese doctrines, or outright gerillia warfare, or scorched earth tactics. or being shot at from multiple kilometers away.
It's interesting how the Mandalorian rules evolve from pretty direct might makes right and dying the good death stuff, into something that acknowledges pure physical strength isn't everything. You can't shoot all of your problems, even with a gun big enough to blow up planets, as the resol'nare notes, you need to have to software to survive as well as hardware. Not just forcing people into doing what you want, but making something that serves a purpose, that can attract others to the cause. The Super Commando Codex goes even further, with explicit moral rules included for the treatment of civilians. Hell, I'd argue you can see something like this with human societies on Earth. At first the strong can do as they wish, but as technology improves and people spend less time looking for the next meal they become more concerned about the other guy. Might no longer makes right, you have to have a moral reason. Though some might argue nukes are the reason we live in such peaceable times and they are the ultimate example of might makes right...
Great comment and underrated. You are absolutely right, it is a great example of normal human society even in the real world and how we progress most often. Although most real life human tribes also respected their elders and let them lead as often as the strongest, one or the other at times too. Mandalorians as a whole people struggle with using wisdom, they have only accepted the strongest to lead and care little of wisdom of elders and even less live to be elders. It is a flawed society but a proud one, and pride is a flaw as much as a boon for a culture.
I think your comment right at the end of the video says it all. Star wars fans are more than ready for the lore to evolve and become more complex and richer. But Disney isn't.

The canons of honor and the Resol'nare, pronounced res-ol-nar-ae are Mandalorian, the Super command codex is a perversion of mandalorian culture to benefit Jaster. They don't choose the Mand'alor based on physical strength alone, leadership goes to the strongest in all aspects of strength. You failed to define and understand Mandalorian honor. You fail to understand that Mandalorians are not a group of mercenaries or bounty hunters, they are Warriors who embrace conflict and adversity on all levels in order to develop and grow. They do not war out of bloodlust, spite, or wealth. They seek battle to understand the limits of their abilities facing against worthy opponents, regardless of victory or defeat. You, like Disney understand nothing about the Mandalorians.
put merit insted of strenght. define the rules of honor as prestige, honesty and truth . add solidarity to loyality and set a point were attrocities remove loyalities (a leader that has no honor, abuses loyality and refuses merit is undeserving of loyality). death can stay as it is discribed. it furthers individuality and responsibility. these small changes could greatly help mandalorian culture. adding a line about valueing sentient live could help with reducing the genocidal tendencies.
The most difficult part about trying to solidify the Mandalorian culture is the fact they pride themselves on individuality. The more complex you make the codes the harder it is to keep that fundamental part of their culture. I think these are great idea's, but that is the simple reason they struggle to implement such things. That's why the Death Watch fought against even the Commando Codex.
I originally liked the Mandalorians, but after learning about the Mandalorian Wars, I kind of rethought the whole thing and why I liked them. I don’t really like them after learning about it. The Taung are pretty cool though. I can respect the New Mandalorians, surprisingly. I can respect the Supercommando Codex too
Like any other culture and faction, you have to weigh and specify which parts are good or bad. The Jedi have many glaring flaws, as do the Sith. The same could be said for any culture irl. At least the Mandos tried to do better with time.

Legends Mandalorians: Logical warriors who only adapted the beskar armor because it gives them an edge, and will discard anything that will make them weak. Disney canon Mandalorians: Get pissed off when they can no longer wear their armor, saying that the armor is part of their tradition. Yeah, it's quite different indeed.
In Legends Beskar'gam became part of our tradition/culture not just a combat edge. And I agree Disney stuff is quite different, some of it because there isn't much on it and some blatant disregard for Legends.
@@themandalorian400 Eh, no. Some Mandos walked around with no beskar and were still full Mandos. Canderous wore civilian clothes when he met Revan and was just as much a Mando as everyone else, and Jango wore a durasteel suit of armor before the Clone Wars, and he was still fully a Mando.
@@HolyknightVader999 Not every Mando wore an armor made out of beskar, as it was an extremely rare and expensive material. I think a beskar'gam in the broad sense just means their unique style of armor.
@@HolyknightVader999 beskar armour held a strong cultural signifigance and was only not worn by the majority of Mandalorians because of it's rarity. So it would be used in only the highest of positions with in the culture or for ceremonial purposes.
Strength is about more than physical power. Bo-Katan Kryze for example wasn't the strongest by physical power. She was the strongest because of those who rallied behind her. Canderous Ordo also had a similar claim to the title.
It's not just Disney. Dave Filoni, and by extension George Lucas, trounced Karen Traviss' work on Mandalorian culture well before Disney bought the franchise. Thanks to Filoni, Jango's status as a Mandalorian is is in question. Also, Jango's faction, the True Mandalorians, that fought Deathwatch in a civil war was overwritten in the Clone Wars show.

I’m so stoked that this is coming out on my birthday! Happy birthday to me! Also, if Jango Fett was a Mandalorian then would Boba naturally be one as well? I know that there were other species that fought as Mandalorian, but would this be an issue for acceptance as Boba was a clone and not a natural born being as everyone else was regardless of species? Or were the Mandalorians so scattered and dissolved that it didn’t matter at that point? Just wondering. One last thing, can anyone confirm or deny that the ship in The Mandalorian is the same one that left Rey on Jakku? I’ve looked at the footage of both and they seem extremely similar to me. However the angle of view is different depending on which source you look at so it’s kind of hard to tell. The shot in The Force Awakens is fairly distant and kind of fuzzy but the overall shape and engine configuration and shape are the same. The trailing rear section seen in the new show could be obscured by the angle that you’re viewing it from in the movie, or it simply could be the original design for the one in The Mandalorian and I just caught an upcoming inconsistency. What are your thoughts Alan? (sp?)
Jango Fett “was” a Mandolorain, specifically Death Watch, but betrayed them by becoming a bounty hunter before Boba was born. Prior to his death, he was training Boba like a Mandolorian and afterwards Boba continued his training on his own. However by the end of the Clone Wars, Death Watch and the Mandolorians were so fractured that it really did not matter. Basically, Boba Fett had all of the training of a Mandolorian but was never officially part of any faction and, because of this, probably did not bother with the honor code.

I want to see small scales battles with 20-500 mercenaries and militia forces vs 50-5,000 imperials. It can be done. The Imperial warlord realistically has hundreds of thousands millions of imperials under his command. He controls an entire planet and possibly an entire system. One fleet of 3 star destroyers harbors 150,000 personnel. That's not including ground forces below.

Yes, that is a perfect analogy to ascribe to the mandalorians culture and way of living.

Its Taung not Tuang, by the way. They are remembered in the Dha Werda Vherda (Shadow Warriors)
Very well said.
put merit insted of strenght.
define the rules of honor as prestige, honesty and truth .
add solidarity to loyality and set a point were attrocities remove loyalities (a leader that has no honor, abuses loyality and refuses merit is undeserving of loyality).
death can stay as it is discribed. it furthers individuality and responsibility.
these small changes could greatly help mandalorian culture.
adding a line about valueing sentient live could help with reducing the genocidal tendencies.

Yeah, it pays to remember that as badass and cool as the Mandalorians are, just about there whole culture centers around some pretty dickish behavior.

Looking at this I'm a bit curious how would the ?Mandalorians view a group like the federation from Star Trek and what they would think of them.
