The draw was extremely unfair. The Chinese were in 1 pool - Fan, Lin, and Liang. The 2 highest-ranking players in the tournament Fan and Lin meeting in the quarterfinals is mindless and absurd. If Lin or Liang were in the other pool, Moregard wouldn't have reached the final. It would have been a Chinese final

Seedings are designed so that better players are not situated against each other too soon in the tournament which would allow low ranked and less skilled players to progress further, undeservedly. It is basic tournament logic - Truls had a walk in the park in his draw. Why did the no. 1 seed have to go through 3 other top seeds in his path to the finals?

The draw was made fairly, but it just turned out to be unlucky for the Chinese that nearly all of them ended up in the same half. That's why there is a phrase, "luck of the draw". There is always an element of randomness in any proper draw.

He's hard work has paid off over the years but we gotta also give up to truls who's ranked 77th in the world ,the kid is still a teen but managed to reach the finals that deserves recognition and respect also. He may have lost 4 to 0 in the finals but getting silver is a big achievement too.
Truls Moregard will be a lot better in 4-5 more years. He won Silver at cadet level for two consecutive years, Silver at the 2017 and 2019 World Junior Championship, and Gold at the 2019 European Junior Championship. One day, Truls might be in top 10 of the world.

Even if it was not the most intense final, Truls run was amazing. Of course he broke my heart with beating Timo Boll (I am german) but he deserved it. Some people didnt like his behaviour but to be fair, showing such mental strength trough the 2nd round to the final is more than respectable. He was 2 matchpoints down against Franziska and 0 3 against Lim Jonghoon. So congrats on that. And this tournament showed, that only Ma Long was the guy to stop Fan Zhendong. No one was really challenging Fan Zhendong in this tournament. I think most of us expected him to win and he did in a very dominant way.
It is nice to see new talents. But with the draw of this and the last WTTC, his run was not that impressive. We would still gonna end up with an all chinese final has the good players distributed more evenly in both brackets. Young talents in the previous tournaments didn't have a good opportunity to make a run to the Final like Moregard. Harimoto couldn't beat Xu Xin in quarter final when he was even able to beat Timo Boll back in 2017 or even the 17 yrs old FZD was beaten by Ma Long in 2015 semi final. WTT needs to change the way this tournament draw out. This isn't fair.
Boll is always a respectable and delightful player, Ma Long made all effort in all aspect to thw finest and paid off, Fan is the king in this period, Trul has infinite potential to be the next. i am a chinese.
Finally, Fan is standing on top of the Table Tennis world. This World Singles Championship was flirting with Fan Zhendong for the past 6 years. I am so glad for Fan that he finally win this elusive trophy. This Swedish teen Truls Moregard played very well. It is not like that he was blown away. The score was tight in every game. Truls needs to figure out how to do better in the last few points of a set.
Well, those few points are actually the hardest part for Western players to overcome Chinese. Look at the Olympic or many tournaments before, many games they lost by only a few points, we see that we know that but eventually they can do nothing because the Chinese will figure Truls out even before Truls get better.

Definitely great performance from FZD, the monster. Truls, the young star, is also playing extremely well, but he was trying to survive from the games while FZD is dominating the match. It's great to see both of them playing in the finals!
One of the most ideal is the right phrase. I have been a huge fan of Fan Zhendong since he appeared in international competitions. I am so happy for Fan winning this world championship. But a twist to what you said, Ma Long is the ideal shakehand player.

His biggest strength is his serves, tactics and forehand attacks. He plays his own style of table tennis and he is the best at it I think Zhang Jike, Fan Zhendong are more of a textbook players of shakehanders than Ma Long. Ma long is more of a, "god of table tennis" than an "ideal shakehand player"
How is the draw decided really? Putting one CHN player in one side of the draw in Zhou QiHao(WR 122), and four others on the other side (Liang Jing Kun (WR: 9), Lin Gao Yuan (WR: 6), Wang Chu Qin (WR:14) and Fan Zhen Dong(WR:1)). In the end Fan ZD beat Wang CQ in the 16s, Lin GY in the quarters and Liang JK in the semis. Was this final a reflection of the state of TT in the world right now?
@@nshon7 Seeding would give the seeded players an unfair advantage with easier match-ups, thereby giving them extremely higher chances of it being an all china semi-final with little surprises. The only way to reduce this chance is by introducing randomness in the mix. You could say that Timo had the best draw this time but got injured in the quarter finals and played less than 100% due to his stomach injury. Fan is definitely the best player as he defeated all 3 chinese players and would have eaten Boll for breakfast even if he was 100% fit.

Fan was behind a few points in three games so he had to fight harder than I thougt against Truls.....I think his teammates would have had big problems to overcome Truls because they are not as good and smart playing as Fan!
As a 15 year old boy I got caught immediately by this beautiful sport, the benefits it provides are incredible,Table Tennis' games are like cherries, once you eat one you can't definitely stop. There are still so so so many things I don't know and looking at this games both helps me and makes me try to copy these heroes.

Fan almost won in 2017 final against Malong in what is arguably the best final match in recent era. He was only 20. You know it's just a matter of time he'll be world champion.

I would have preferred a final between Fan and Timo, too bad he was carrying injury. On the other hand, very happy to see the emergence of Moregard. He plays with a 90s style with a big focus on the serving, returns and trickery mind games, which fits his nick name waldner junior. I totally enjoyed watching his matches, except the throwing racket and lashing out part. Honestly speaking, as of now, Moregard is not enough to challenge any Chinese player of his age yet. For instance, Wang Chuqin (2 years older) beat him 4:0 in their last match. To realize the potential , Moregard should go train in China and play the Chinese super league as soon as possible. China will happily welcome him as the apprentice of Waldner and Pearson, our old friends.

China welcomes ANY player to train with us and almost all the top players already have, including Timo, Ito, Ishikawa, Diaz and even Waldner. For the super league, most teams have foreign players, be it for box office reason or the friendship factor. Of course they don’t get a starting position immediately, but as the season goes on they all get their fair share of play time, and thus gaining the experience not available anywhere else. I do agree Moregard is not at the level yet and was quite lucky to be in this final. My point is that he should come to China as soon as possible in order to realize his full potential. Would be sad to see him developing bad habits and tendencies from the euro league. Also, never underestimate our respect for Waldner. He is a long time arch enemy and a true friend. If he makes the request for Moregard we will gladly do him a favor. I believe nobody wants to see a new Waldner more than Swedish and Chinese.
If you haven't tried it already, try watching table tennis matches at a slower speed. It makes it so much more enjoyable seeing how the players position themselves and their paddles while competing. I personally watch at 0.25 playback speed.
You can write a letter to the “Swedish communist party” so that they reprimand Truls according to your wishes ) Truls was warned with a yellow card. Just to remind you, WCQ was disciplined not by ITTF but by his coaches or national authorities. For good or bad, Sweden is not China.

Whatever Chinese TT authorities are doing with their players is their own matter unless they violate basic human rights of their players. Truls played pretty well. Unorthodox play will pay off one day. The style of play is perfect against the Chinese. A bit more fundamentals and Truls will be at the top. Period. Messy, creative, and unorthodox. So fun to watch. Ping pong needs personality. Not countryman-ship.

Truls Moregard will be a lot better in 4-5 more years. He won Silver at cadet level for two consecutive years, Silver at the 2017 and 2019 World Junior Championship, and Gold at the 2019 European Junior Championship. One day, Truls might be in top 10 of the world.

Even if it was not the most intense final, Truls run was amazing. Of course he broke my heart with beating Timo Boll (I am german) but he deserved it. Some people didnt like his behaviour but to be fair, showing such mental strength trough the 2nd round to the final is more than respectable. He was 2 matchpoints down against Franziska and 0 3 against Lim Jonghoon. So congrats on that. And this tournament showed, that only Ma Long was the guy to stop Fan Zhendong. No one was really challenging Fan Zhendong in this tournament. I think most of us expected him to win and he did in a very dominant way.
Truls is gonna be a competitior real soon to China
It is nice to see new talents. But with the draw of this and the last WTTC, his run was not that impressive. We would still gonna end up with an all chinese final has the good players distributed more evenly in both brackets. Young talents in the previous tournaments didn't have a good opportunity to make a run to the Final like Moregard. Harimoto couldn't beat Xu Xin in quarter final when he was even able to beat Timo Boll back in 2017 or even the 17 yrs old FZD was beaten by Ma Long in 2015 semi final. WTT needs to change the way this tournament draw out. This isn't fair.

Finally, Fan is standing on top of the Table Tennis world. This World Singles Championship was flirting with Fan Zhendong for the past 6 years. I am so glad for Fan that he finally win this elusive trophy.
This Swedish teen Truls Moregard played very well. It is not like that he was blown away. The score was tight in every game. Truls needs to figure out how to do better in the last few points of a set.
Well, those few points are actually the hardest part for Western players to overcome Chinese. Look at the Olympic or many tournaments before, many games they lost by only a few points, we see that we know that but eventually they can do nothing because the Chinese will figure Truls out even before Truls get better.
In terms of skills, strength and speed, FZD is the absolute best in the history of table tennis.

Definitely great performance from FZD, the monster. Truls, the young star, is also playing extremely well, but he was trying to survive from the games while FZD is dominating the match. It's great to see both of them playing in the finals!
Fan Zhendong is probably one of the most "ideal" shakehand players in table tennis history
One of the most ideal is the right phrase. I have been a huge fan of Fan Zhendong since he appeared in international competitions. I am so happy for Fan winning this world championship. But a twist to what you said, Ma Long is the ideal shakehand player.

I think Zhang Jike, Fan Zhendong are more of a textbook players of shakehanders than Ma Long. Ma long is more of a, "god of table tennis" than an "ideal shakehand player"

How is the draw decided really?
Putting one CHN player in one side of the draw in Zhou QiHao(WR 122), and four others on the other side (Liang Jing Kun (WR: 9), Lin Gao Yuan (WR: 6), Wang Chu Qin (WR:14) and Fan Zhen Dong(WR:1)).
In the end Fan ZD beat Wang CQ in the 16s, Lin GY in the quarters and Liang JK in the semis. Was this final a reflection of the state of TT in the world right now?

@@nshon7 Seeding would give the seeded players an unfair advantage with easier match-ups, thereby giving them extremely higher chances of it being an all china semi-final with little surprises. The only way to reduce this chance is by introducing randomness in the mix. You could say that Timo had the best draw this time but got injured in the quarter finals and played less than 100% due to his stomach injury. Fan is definitely the best player as he defeated all 3 chinese players and would have eaten Boll for breakfast even if he was 100% fit.

As a 15 year old boy I got caught immediately by this beautiful sport, the benefits it provides are incredible,Table Tennis' games are like cherries, once you eat one you can't definitely stop. There are still so so so many things I don't know and looking at this games both helps me and makes me try to copy these heroes.

Truls is good. Full of confidence and enjoying the game. What I like about him is that he doesnt stress about losing a point. He just knows he is not there yet, and just gives his best. Good player. Hope he meets Jorgic soon

I realize advertisers and sponsors bring in money, but sometimes you need to realize that short term money is nothing compared to what is good for our beloved sport of table tennis. Congratulations to Fan and Trul. Trul will be a force to watch. His style is quite different and he has a bit of Waldner in him. For Fan, you finally make it to the top even though you are at the top all the time…:). I also want to get a shout out to Ma Long and Xu Xin who are so gracious to give up their spots to make room for the younger players. You guys are class act as well.
I would have preferred a final between Fan and Timo, too bad he was carrying injury.
On the other hand, very happy to see the emergence of Moregard. He plays with a 90s style with a big focus on the serving, returns and trickery mind games, which fits his nick name waldner junior. I totally enjoyed watching his matches, except the throwing racket and lashing out part.
Honestly speaking, as of now, Moregard is not enough to challenge any Chinese player of his age yet. For instance, Wang Chuqin (2 years older) beat him 4:0 in their last match.
To realize the potential , Moregard should go train in China and play the Chinese super league as soon as possible. China will happily welcome him as the apprentice of Waldner and Pearson, our old friends.

China welcomes ANY player to train with us and almost all the top players already have, including Timo, Ito, Ishikawa, Diaz and even Waldner.
For the super league, most teams have foreign players, be it for box office reason or the friendship factor. Of course they don’t get a starting position immediately, but as the season goes on they all get their fair share of play time, and thus gaining the experience not available anywhere else.
I do agree Moregard is not at the level yet and was quite lucky to be in this final. My point is that he should come to China as soon as possible in order to realize his full potential. Would be sad to see him developing bad habits and tendencies from the euro league.
Also, never underestimate our respect for Waldner. He is a long time arch enemy and a true friend. If he makes the request for Moregard we will gladly do him a favor. I believe nobody wants to see a new Waldner more than Swedish and Chinese.

If you haven't tried it already, try watching table tennis matches at a slower speed. It makes it so much more enjoyable seeing how the players position themselves and their paddles while competing. I personally watch at 0.25 playback speed.
Truls' style of play just doesn't work against FZD. FZD is a beast!!! Still an awesome run for Truls!

Truls played pretty well. Unorthodox play will pay off one day. The style of play is perfect against the Chinese. A bit more fundamentals and Truls will be at the top. Period. Messy, creative, and unorthodox. So fun to watch. Ping pong needs personality. Not countryman-ship.
