a few things:
-ranged siege for the norse is best handled by throwing axemen. You tend to make a good number of them in any situation to use wood (the other options that arent myth units being godis, or siege units that are slow and weak), and their hack damage makes them much better than other archers against buildings. Special mention to Thor that can research burning pitch at any age, which turns axemen into true building wreckers. Come the endgame, the norse can fully afford to bring no siege unit at all and instead stay more mobile than other armies and dedicate their full population to direct combat units. And to go with that, a lot of their myth units have crush damage (boars and Eineri all 4 kinds of giants) and with Tyr huskarls become building wreckers too further reducing the need for rams or ballistas. They have the worst siege, but the least need to build siege at all to quickly get rid of buildings (the only thing lacking is a way to snipe buildings from out of their range quickly).
-hersirs dont trade favorably with human troops, but they are a fair bit beefier than regular norse infantry and have many upgrades, making them a good frontline if supported as they can soak more damage than other infantry, and are especially important to tank myth units. plus, they generate favor faster which the norse need a lot, even making some passively meanign a handful of them can be enough to at least be able to afford upgrades without having to fight. Godis also have that bonus favor generation (and passive), though they dont have as many upgrades as hersirs
I've always avoided playing the Norse. Their myth units are amazing (maybe the best?) but the way they generate favor is a bit complicated for my playstyle. You need to be really aggressive.

Norse got my favourite units. einherjar and battle boar. While not the strongest, I just love that horn.
Apparantly, Odin is top tier atm in 1v1. Loki performing pretty decently. Freyr and Thor seem to struggle since they are more economicly focused. Thor's free dwarves per armory upgrades probably still need to be figured out which the best speed is for utilising this. It's easy to fall into the trap of spending too much resources early on on upgrades vs units. Freyr has cheaper upgrades but the +150% research time is imo too much of a downside. I like both Loki and Odin so luckily for me it's not much of an issue.
Yeah Odin is an example of how a few key bonuses to a major god really help out. Loki benefits from the cheaper ox carts.
So basically avoid skirmishes with them till u get a good army and negate them on flaming weapons and it’s gg Greek is a counter to them I guess

I would love to play thor but learning optimal build order for him is very hard compared to my gaia.
The standard Norse build order works for Thor, and there's a few relatively straightforward more "optimal" Thor build orders that advance around ~4:15 to 4:30
@@codydonovan4853 it just has much more steps if you want to get 3 extra dwarfs and possibly 4th while advancing. Like punching a goat to get 5 favor for upgrade.
Norse are the strongest in vanilla Age of mythology not retold and i bet that the meta goes their the same way but i can mistaken because i do not want too buy retold when i have the original game and i wait when it is super cheap maybe but personal they want what 40 -60 euros too much.

@@Lancelot2000Lps they changed a bit some nerfs and buffs still coming so its more playable then the original version, you dont need the dlcs
