The main blade can be prevented from rotating whilst the depth is set, hold it still against the outer sheath whilst setting, makes it much easier to accurately set to avoid damage to conductors. This tool works really well on orange DNO split concentric BS 7870 Low smoke zero halogen cable. It’s robust and feels solid when handling. Great Video here, thanks 🇬🇧.

@@SparkyChannel Bill, I have the Ideal cable stripper (same one for over 40 years) the rotation of the stripper when you stripped the 1/0 cable and the 8 AWG is the same way I use mine, it seems to grip the cable better than going the opposite direction (as with the other cables you stripped) just thought I'd mention it. Another great video. Here's the link for the Ideal stripper.

Almost forgot the story behind that tool! That type of cable knife was invented in 1963 by a German electrician. He changed career an started a business to manufacture stripping tools for electricians. That was how Jokari started back then. That's also the reason all of these style cable strippers are named "Jokari knife" here in Germany. No matter who's the actual manufacturer. Almost every electrician has at least one of these cable knifes in the tool bag. He came up with the idea when cables with plastic sheathing (PVC) became a big thing here.
And that's another proof for my theory that the best tools for a trade are coming from persons that actually work or worked in that trade.

Ok, I’m impressed, & see that Jokari is a German Company, ok.....
Would see that you’d need some practice when using this at first; but than can quickly be a time saver when stripping out (roughing out) cables/wires [whichever you prefer saying😉].
Never even seen a tool like this before, and is WHY WATCHING BILL’s channel, pretty darn great. He finds tools that helps us out, and doesn’t just “show us” the tool; BUT “shows us the tool in action”, even if it means he messes up. Think that’s great, b/c most ppl are not gonna get it right 1st time outta the “box”😉
Thx Bill for really looking for the tools, tips, tricks that can make our profession a little bit easier to work in 👍🏻
And for the bad part.... I’m gonna have to buy this tool and check it out myself; cuz it looks like it would be very handy; as I like ya Bill, my wallet does not🤣
    Cheers Sparky✌🏻

LOL! That's really well written. Thanks for taking the time, that really made me smile. Somehow you get across your exact thoughts, which isn't easy to do. It is a unique tool. My friend from Germany, Marcell, showed it to me with a link. I don't really like the hook razor as it nicked my thumb on a practice run. So I suspect that many of us would be just as happy with the $20 version which only has the top razor as the $50 one shown in this video. I'm considering buying the smallest hook for the top as the one that comes with it and the smallest size would be an excellent combination. I spent quite a bit of time in the video telling about the different size hooks because I thought that was an important point. Not everyone would use it in the same situations at all. Thanks, and remember that these tools make you $$$. 😉

Could you go over why double tapped neutrals in a service panel is not allowed.

    • @SparkyChannel
      @SparkyChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

When more than one neutral wire is fed into a single screw/terminal on the neutral bus bar, the connections can become loose. When there are loose connections in your main panel from a double tapped neutral they can cause overheating or arcing which can then lead to shock and an electrical fire.

    • @scott_meyer

      @@SparkyChannel
My service panel has all neutrals double tapped for 15 and 20 amp circuits.
House was built in 2005. Not sure how it passed inspection. My understanding is that in 2002 the NEC was changed to forbid double tapping.
The Home inspector did not catch it either.
I plan to fix it when it warms back up. I have checked the screws and they are all tight and none of the wire insulation looks like they have overheated.

The adjustment is only necessary when you switch the cable type or size you want to strip. And as Bill said, it's a matter of practice. This type of strippers is around here in Germany for several decades now. Most of our cables we use here are round, there's only one flat cable type which is still permitted but actually no one uses this type anymore in a new installation.

Hi! I would think that any cable sheathing that can be cut with a razor knife can be stripped with this tool but SO might not be as quick and easy and it may take more revolutions of the tool on the sheathing. For other viewers "S" means extra hard service and "O" means oil resistant.

I can see it being useful for doing a lot of terminations that are too big for a standard stripper, but for romex, you'd have to make your cut before putting the wire in the box. it's cleaner than the "ripper" style of cable stripper, but also less idiot resistant.

    • @kenbrown2808
