Thanks for sharing this with the country. I'm so impressed in how the guy from KZN put his story,it shows he is hands on in whatever is taking place there. To give just a little bit of information,i have been attending some of these forums in my area. The leaders of the forums engage the project managers about the jobs and as we come from different parts of the forums there are numbers given to each forum for supply. What we have noticed is that some forums are lead by so called veterans and those are problematic because now you can see that there is politicians involvement in it. I'm a retired Boilermaker/Welder to be controlled by someone who hasn't been to Technical School you must know some discrepancies are bound to happen. But to come back to the problem at hand yes our black contractors don't get the same recognition as other different colours. Fare sharing should be the first thing to be looked at. The use of the local community also must be the priority. Remember we all have to pay for services where we live,so using foreign people to do local jobs for me is a big no. Politicians that are somehow being protected are the ones that have destroyed the smooth sailing of the projects with their noses where they don't belong.

The same way the law states that a person cannot bring justice by their own hands & must allow the law to take its course.. This should be the same.. The "construction mafia" should follow the same principles.. They should take their grievances to the right authorities. Furthermore, if the project is Govt funded, then their grievances carry merit, but if it is a private project, they have no right to interfere. KZN has a huge extortion issue.. Tell me, why isn't there any private development taking place in rural areas.. Not even a town or village...where are the billionaire blacks. What has even 1 black person developed in the last 30 years. Don't refer to any extension of a metro or hub, I'm talking about creating a complete hub in the deep rural where that community will go to without the extensive travel.. Correct me if I'm wrong. The guys in KZN just want everything for nothing, violently approach every scenario & are absolutely lawless.. As for extorting small businesses that are already contending with a failing economy, load shedding etc.. Must now still pay these thugs for "protection".. If you don't pay, they hire a group of drug addicts to loot your business.. When it comes to a point where the community will react & violently respond, then the community becomes the criminals. This country is finished.. This guys arrogance is very visible..

...unfortunately the thuggery happens in those boardrooms. Big construction and consulting firms have have captured Public Works, SANRAL etc. They collude and rig tenders, locking everyone else out. This happened with the tenders for the world cup.
But they also fight amongst themselves and mismanage their business and go bust, like group five, and many others. Leaving thousands unemployed.

Let's help this mafia government in catching criminals in sa, start within your own party and spread your efforts into the corrupt saps so actual work can be conducted and then imprison these criminals without promoting them higher up into government sectors.
Best solution - remove the anc

the main problem is that projects that fail to engage the relevant stakeholders such as the community lead to construction mafia. this is very serious indeed. Project managers must always engage the community before they can start any projects in their areas to avoid such things.

Ask anyone who goes Zimbabwe, these things do not happen in Zimbabwe. Gun crime is unheard of there. I know as I do business with Zimplats which mines platunum
When copper carrying trucks leave Congo carrying about million usd of copper each they get police escorts through Congo then Zambia. Zimbabwe is only country they aren't escorted by police. Ask any truck driver they'll confirm this

Would seem that mafia operations are treated with soft gloves by government as well as police and other prosecuting authorities. Are these fees demanded by construction mafia declared for Tax purposes, are the construction companies targeted able to set off these blackmail costs against income. All of this would seem an easy way of making money with strings attached.

It's so unfortunate that I saw your comment now. I don't know whether I'm on the wrong side of society when it comes to this but it doesn't sit well with me being referred to as a person of color. I think it is disrespectful for white people to come to our land and label us as people of color.
