What's not clearly show on the schematic is the power and ground connection---but if you know electronics, you can see where they are connected on the 555 timer.

Why did you choose a photoelectric cell? Instead, I would expect a similar circuit using a phototransistor would have given MUCH higher sound quality. It would be a smaller size too.

I once did something like this with a 2.5 watt laser. You can probably imagine how far that was able to transmit
