      I'm not an expert on these things but it looked as if he pulled the throttle out too far a bit too soon a couple of times, but maybe you never know when onn of these locomotives is going to slip.

      You really have too. I was out there twice this year and going back one more time. I was right by the tracks in august for the doubleheader when they came charging out of port Clinton. This was my first time actually chasing a excursion and it was a absolute blast.

      So THIS is the one you were talking about! I had seen one of it leaving out double header with 425 and you could see the valve gear set basically in corner, and thought that's the one you meant.

      I think it is one of the most impressive. It's all I need in a locomotive.'m happy to live petty close by so I can see it frequently. I rode behind it several times in the 1980s including a trip to Harrisburg. I'm glad it's been brought back after 31 years.

      @@BeefSupreme115 I certainly sympathize with you if America went back to using the steam engine trains. That certainly wouldn't be a problem because America is rich in coal. I don't know if it would sit well with environmentalists because black smoke would be coming out of the trains smokestacks. It seems that these trains are still useful in some way. If you ever seen one they're a sight to behold because I saw one pass through my hometown back in 2010. A steam engine left San Antonio, Texas and passed through my hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas enroute to Kingsville,Texas for some celebration regarding the Good Old Days. When the celebration was over it passed through my hometown enroute back to San Antonio, Texas. It was blowing it's mournful whistle making its presence known on the rails of Corpus Christi, Texas. It be great if they weren't part of history still being used. But, it's what it is.

    In my opinion of Reading T1 locomotive 2102 is one of the loudest operating 4-8-4 in excursion service. The shotgun exhaust is so loud it almost drowns out the sound of her Reading 6 chime whistle. It won’t be long until her sister 2100 will be operating as well once the restoration is completed by the American Steam Preservation Society. Once both T1 northerns are operating, They will together be the loudest operating 4-8-4s in excursions service being the loudest can match the late Frisco 4-8-2 mountain type number 1522 the soon to be restored Western Maryland consolidation Mountain Thunder number 734 and still currently operating Reading and Northern 4-6-2 Pacific number 425 all hold the distinction of being the loudest steam engines in excursion service.

    I would love to get in the cab and have someone explain all the controls. I've been in the cab a few times, but very briefly and never when moving. Does anyone know what the small valve the engineer was working when he first started? What was the fireman doing to the fire? It looked as if he was feeding something into the firebox. Sand maybe?

      @IronhorseRailProductions ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ok so right before the train starts moving you see the engineer yanking on that big lever from the ceiling? That's the throttle he was pulling on. And that little lever he put forward that was the sanding lever to put sand on the rails. The reverser is in the forward position to move forward. What the fireman was doing was most likely checking the level of his fire and keeping it right where he wants it. There is alot more to it but that's pretty much the basics.

    When will the DVD about 2102 be out?

    • @Steamtrainvideos
      @Steamtrainvideos  ปีที่แล้ว +13

      As of now there will be 2 DVDs. The first covers the 50-car coal train, 100-car coal train, and the first 2 Iron Horse Rambles. The second will cover the August doubleheader with 425, the last Iron Horse Ramble on Sept. 3rd, and some of the fall foliage trips. I hope to have them both done late November or early December.

    This is how they were ran, something about running the absolute guts out of an old piece of machinery just feels right, like it let’s you know it’s still got some fight in it. I would have loved to see the N&W days when they would have 2-3 Ys and As working a drag.
