    You are a more capeable engineer with one arm tied in front of you back than I am with 2 good arms!
    Excellent build and vid mate. Get well soon!

    It's extremely satisfying watching a man with "one arm"* build what is essentially a limb-mulching device. Leaves no doubt as to how you ended up in that situation. And the entirely genuine expression of concern on your face when operating it is precisely how I was feeling in that moment. Little more blast shielding on the next one mate!
    Winch was definitely satisfying, operating like one of those draglines they mine coal with.

      Hahah yes I did feel the irony of what I was doing. I do believe safety is going to become a core component, might even turn that into a video 🤔

    I think it needs a lid or some kind of deflector to keep all of the delicious bits inside. Cool project. Might be a hell of a way to make chum.

      Yeah I definitely think some higher walls or lid would be beneficial, I think it was over half the ingredients would be thrown out lol.

    Funniest thing I've seen in ages. Fine tuning: blade, motor, gear rations, LID. Funniest thing: your sampling of the end product. Take care of those tendons.

    Brother, that is one adorable little lathe... I would snag her off ya in a second... Tho, i have way too many machines already to even consider putting her anywhere useful... She would likely be plopped on a stand, cleaned down, lubed and covered in thick industry grease to prevent any air or moisture from ever seeing her again, and i would look at her lovingly while operating my other machines... Absolutely adorable... Im in love mate, and i damn well hope that you will take proper care of her and not grind and produce abrasive shit around that little iron sweetheart... Keep her covered with a towel when you arent using her and so on... Such a machine, even tho she aint as from the factory by now, deserves all the care and love the operator could possibly provide...
    All the best!

    • @FinlayShellard
      @FinlayShellard  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, absolutely, I find myself oiling it even when i'm not using it lol. But yes grinding is only done outside for that exact reason, very happy and excited to put it to good work as it should and I shall keep it covered as well thank you! :)

      @@FinlayShellard I would advise getting some good industrial grade spray grease for forklift chains or such... When im not using my machines for a while, i blast them all over with that... Before, i too used to oil them every two days of inaction with a wide oil soaked brush, but the grease sticks like weld spatter and washes away with oil when you apply it again... Such grease is resistant to water, acid, base, salts, heat and pressure, and when you spray it on, just wipe it in with a brush, as it will bind with way oil and stay there for good... When you go to use the machine, just wipe everything down with a wd40 rag to remove any dust or grit that fell into grease, before applying oil with a brush... Good machine care leads to long lasting precision surfaces that can be easily repaired with rulon or similar teflon based liners or even alu-bronze precision sheet when the wear allows for fitting of a strip of fresh bearing material to be scraped in and precision restored at factory geometry, maybe even at a higher level of accuracy all over, if one cares to spend the time needed to do so...
      All the best dear friend, its always a pleasure to see your content, and seeing proper albeit baby size machines taken proper care of is a heartwarming bonus!

      @@camillosteuss thank you so much that's really helpful I shall do exactly that and get that grease next way oil purchase. I really appreciate the helpful advice 😃

      @@FinlayShellard Its a pleasure... I first saw a proper machine online almost 15 years ago or more, and then i saw a lathe on AvE`s channel and from there, love at first sight was born... I studied every machine manual and what not i could find, and now, i actually have a whole load of machinery at home... I love machines and its a pleasure to know that i could give anyone a way to maintain any machine with love and care they all deserve...
      Also, speaking of lubricants, consider getting manual gearbox teflon additive... Its free of detergents and is pretty much 80 weight gear oil with teflon additive pack for reduced friction... It mixes with way oil(i added two packs into my 10l bucket of shell way oil) or can be used instead for assembly of machine parts... Its a great thing that is akin to moly additive for engine oil, but this has no detergents or dispersants that would ruin the way oil by not allowing shit to settle and slide off to lowest point available... Also, its amazing for gearbox headstock lathes that use oil drip to lube the gears and shafts and ancillary bearings... Just squirt the tube into the oil and it will mix by itself... Quietens the gears and reduces wear...
      And if you ever think about mist coolant, or any coolant in general, consider using oil mist coolant or pure mineral oil(cheapest automatic gearbox oil) flood cooling, as it cant ever cause rust, and while it does wash away way oil, unlike the emulsion coolants, it has 0 water in it and when its wiped to re-oil the ways, it leaves no moisture or any oxidizing possibility... Its neither a great lube nor a great coolant, but its a better lube than emulsion and for 99% of work, it will provide more than sufficient cooling to any tool... Especially in form of oil mist cooling, as there you have air blasting the whole time to provide the cooling and oil to provide the lubrication to the cutter...
      Its infinitely friendlier to machines, and cost wise, it amounts to the same thing, as it lasts longer than emulsion... Emulsion requires wiping down with a few rags and wd40 or similar to make sure theres no moisture on the precision surfaces, atf is oil and as such, apart from it washing away the way oil, there is no fear of rust if it creeps underneath sliding surfaces and remains there for days...
