I am currently playing Charlie Cowell in my community theater's production of The Music Man Jr., and I must say, due to this, I have a bit more of an idea how to act "like a man" even though I am a fourteen year old girl. Very impressive performance on both actors' parts:)
In my brothers junior year of high school, they did the music man and he was in the Barbershop Quartet. and he told me once how they created the sound of Charlie’s anvil filled briefcase hitting the ground. A Member of the stage crew stood offstage with 2 different sized Dumbells. When the kid playing Charlie dropped the case, the crew members dropped both dumbbells at the same time, which created a loud clanking sound causing everyone in the audience to laugh. Myself included because I was looking forward to that part.
As a small perform for my middle school which we doing music man as Charlie Cowell I wish we actually used these lines instead of the one my director wrote up
Oh gawd! I'm in music man (I'm Gracie btw, she's such a CUTUE!!) and I wait in the wings for the ice cream social just to see that bit. That one was done really well and Marian was a bit of dirty there! Lolz and Charlie's a hottie!! Wooh!!
Nice Charlie! He's a little dramatic but that makes it funny. The only thing that bothered me is that he seems a tad too whimsical for a character whose supposed to be bitter and coarse. Still, I liked it!
Thumbs up if your school's ever done "The Music Man" !
In my summer theatet camp I'm playing Charlie Cowell. Ive never had a role with as many lines as him so I'm excited for this
