Im so glad you mentioned the bug up front so people don't misunderstand it's power, kudos for transparency and actually doing it with a different skill. So many other's aren't. Respect! :) One thing to note is that the set is bugged atm. You're not supposed to lose heads if you take dmg while shielded but currently you do. Several blizz have pointed out its a bug they already have the fix for but haven't pushed out yet, so hopefully that helps fix that problem :). Even still the LOD version seems just as good if not better, I think they need to tune up the numbers on the set slightly to make it as more of an attractive option.
For the 10-12 seasons I've played D3, I've NEVER played Wiz. I think this season, this is going to change :) This build looks beefy af! Thank you for the guide!
This build looks super solid. I'm still not sure exactly how the new set even works, but thankfully LOD is here to pick up the slack. One thing I'm interested in trying is an Archon variant. As I learned from the days of Manald Heal, the hydras do benefit from archon stacks, and with the new seasonal buff you can fit Serpent's Sparker, Tasker and Theo, and Magistrate in your cube and still complete your six piece Vyr set plus Fazulas and the Chantodo weapons by wearing RORG. I want to see how many rivers of fire a hydra can barf out with 200 archon stacks plus Tasker and Theo.
The thing with Manald Hydras is: Eventhough they get the "Increases all damage by 100% per Archon stack" bonus, the Manald Heal procs won't get buffed by Serpent Sparker & Magistrate bonus. Your hydras, dealing damage for you, dealing increased damage, able to proc Manald Heal - by YOU. Neither are Serpent Sparker & Magistrate "increases all damage"-bonuses, nor do procs from your gear count as triggered by the pets - they only are able to proc stuff FOR you. So Manald Archon Hydras would be about.... Hydra attacks dealing much more damage while triggering ManaldHeal-procs dealing the same damage they are now. The Manald procs will be "still kinda strong", but regular Hydra attacks with their new x7x7 multiplicator will outdps ManaldHeal-procs. The old ReverseArchonHydra spec actually did make use of these Manald Heal procs by Hydras cause on that build, these new multiplicators for Hydras did exist - so the "14.000% Manald Heal"-procs were the actual damage dealing part compared to .... don't know and can't check atm... but any something ~500%? by the Hydra attacks (there, all damage increasing effects were effecting both parts equally. New stuff though is specifically increasing Hydra damage alone.) But! That does not mean that HydraVyr will be worthless/playable or anything like that. It's just that the old "LightningHydra/ManaldHeal"-synergy did not get anything from this patch, just the Hydra alone and therefore outscaling any "Manald Heal"-setup. One could still try to defend Manald Heal with arguments like "It still is a bit more damage than buffed Hydras would be doing without "Manald Heal"-procs", yeah, but even much, much stronger would be playing without Manald Heal & Paralysis passive and instead using "Hydra damage"-buffing effects instead and/or adding some supporting utilities. *TL;DR: Manald Hydras are no real option, since Hydra buffs were applied to "Hydra damage buff"-items alone. Manald Heal procs additional damage - BY the pets, FROM you => Hydra damage outscales Manald Heal procs, while Manald Heal procs should pose as "additional intense damage spikes" to be worth using this mechanic - or else Manald Heal isn't paying up its cost.
Update: Blizz nerfed LOD a bit, and buffed the set a bit. Not sure which will be better. I added a second build for the set solo wiz underneath LOD if you'd like to try that. ptr.d3planner.com/500594914

It looks very console friendly since we, whom are playing on console dont have the luxury to point our teleports and we have reduced FoV, which makes leapers killing us leaping off screen to us. As this build is tanky as hell, it seems that this wont be a problem anymore :D
Legit build my man. I switched to this from a meteor build and it seems like I don't even take damage anymore. I went from level 50 rifts to 80. Gonna keep going and see where I plateau. Insane.

I was playing with Typhons, arcane hydras and Disintegrate - Intensify for more arcane damage and it was working pretty well, besides the bug dropping heads for getting hit even not taking damage. Was planning on running that until LoD gear was usable.
I believe they do b/c when the frost nova procs, I was immortal. stuns can come from non-lightning skills, for example furious charge is a physical skill with certain runes and it stuns, and so does ground stomp :)

great vid raxx. I came back to d3 this spring after a looong break and picked up a LoD Hydra build immediately. I notice a few changes between the build you demonstrated here and the one thats currently leading the pack on icy veins (such using exposive blast in place of tp, which I think I'll give shot). one thing thats making me feel way outta the loop.. how are you equipping an offhand kanai in your middle / armor slot? 800 paragon levels, and i apparently havent learned how to do some things yet haha

Hey man, I play on Xbox and I have this build on my Hardcore Seasonal character. Just cleared a 118 GR (Paragon 1200, 5 aug) and I'm #5 on leaderboards but #1 among the Hydra wizards. Great guide! Looking forward to clearing that 125 by the end of the season.
This is a great guide! I don't like arcane torrent at all and use disintegrate. What would you suggest for gems both for solo and group play? Is taeguk always a must? Also what would you cube instead of unity for groups?
Hi Vicky, for high pushing with solo I'd use legacy of dreams, taeguk, and stricken (to kill the boss). taeguk is great because it also gives us an armor buff. For group play drop stricken for enforcer, and you can cube stone gauntlets if you're playing with a support who makes you immune to crowd control for huge survivability :)
...this makes so much more sense than whatever the bleep IV's telling me to use.... Though I still think that functionally Typhon's actually WAY better than people were saying it would be back on the PTR. I literally did a braindead 110 clear with it below P800 and no augments or primals and 2/3 gems at 25. Like, that's not a "bad" build by any means. At all. The Typhon fixes REALLY boosted it an insane amount. Just trying to push a bit higher so been trying some of the LoD builds because they're "supposedly" better for pushing, and my initial attempts with whatever this build IV is telling me to use is literally capping out like 20 GRs below what I did with Typhon despite having significantly better gear. (3 BiS primals! Like really, what is this build lol.) ...still kinda wish the community as a whole would update these guides post-season-launch consistently...
I would love to have perfectly accurate guides with perfect information for people all the time, the problem is blizzard changes this. The balance between LOD and the hydra set got changed like 3 different times before launch, every time nerfing LOD. the surprising thing is LOD is STILL the better option. So luckily 97% of this video's information is still accurate
It would be cool if they added a 4-piece set bonus to the Barb set that reduced the cooldown on Wrath of the Berserker by 50%, kind of like what Akkhan's set does for Akarat's Champion. Then if you took the Boon of Bul-Kathos passive and prioritized CDR you could have Wrath up permanently with no Zodiac or Messerschmidt's. I think that's fair considering you'd need to sink a passive and several item stat slots into it.
Thank you for doing these videos. Very helpful for beginners. As a beginner I have trouble with the rotations. I have changed my 1,2,3,4 keys to A,S,D,F as I was having trouble going up and down to get to the upper keys. Do you recommend that "Numlock" tip to keep Explosive Blast up all the time? Have you ever done a video on keybinding or on how you play with the keyboard? Thanks again.

This is my first season and I am just now playing the Hydra set. I had a couple of Tal Rasha's pieces in it with a legendary boot to give me 600% meteor damage. Looking at this though, its amazing how tanky it is. I have most of this now so I will soon be giving it a try
For build guides, I'd also recommend going over your follower as well. Followers are always an important part of any build and it can be helpful info for new or returning players.
I would use LOD Taeguk and stricken for very high pushes because taeguk not only gives 80% damage when fully powered, but a big armor buff to keep up squirts

Hi Rax. Great content as usual, but I have a few additional questions : - unity vs karini : dropping a good karini on live servers is way more difficult than dropping a good unity. Do you feel that dropping an AD roll to get 15℅ elite dmg by wearing unity is a viable config for end game or is it just OK until you find a decent karini - what T16 build do you recommend to farm keys? I tried a typhon cold hydra with no channeling which was pretty cool. Dunno if it can compete with vyr/chantodo. - most of the top clear that I saw in the leaderboard don't use Taeguk, they use lod, enforcer and trapped. Any idea why? - do you think that using witching hour is a viable alternative for top push with 2 apoc rolls and a topaz in the helm? The quality of life will be lower as it will be way easier to drop Aquila buff, but I was wondering if it is possible at all to get some extra dmg, although it is currently not needed because of the AT bug - what do you think of the arcane dynamo/spectral blades variant? I assume that your variant is easier to play, but how do both compare in term of dmg?
Very precise questions my friend. I can tell you know wizard. Using unity and cubing karini is fine, especially because it guarantees an 80 roll. T16 i think the best would be chantodo where you go back into archon super quickly. You can definitely use WH with 2 apoc and a topaz, but it’s hard to get both apoc rolls. The spectral blades variant is also great and I played it in groups, but in solos because I rely less on a specific rotation and more on whatever the rift throws at me, I found it annoying to stack dynamo. Also you have to take spectral blades as an additional skill meaning you have to give up something. Not sure it’s worth
Very nice guide thank you for your time.. How come area damage works with this build? I thought that pets dont benefit from it In your build i saw you used taeguk but on gameplay i didnt see it stacking..
1.That was the Convergence rune. 2. Both have a place but AT goes over walls etc. Imo is probably better for AOE. But I’m nowhere near an expert. Just like non meta wizard play.
Thx for the build making. I'm new to D3, I literally play for 1 week now, and I'm kinda dps stuck with Typhon Hydra. I checked a couple build and guides videos and I think I've almost everything, if not everything, and even so I think my damage don't ever cross the 800b when max channeling. Idk what else to do to increase that I'm working on getting myself an ancient helm and I might migrate to LoD Hydra to see if It gets any better.
@@Raxxanterax Not yet, I still don't really have a piece of gear that I'm really satisfied with yet. I mean, most of my gear are ancient by now but none that I can say "this piece can't get any better than this" you know? hey Raxx, thanks for this, best guide out there by far. I have a question: I tested both the lod and the set builds, I might be wrong but I see way higher DMG numbers with the set since the season started. I also have 1 lod speed build and 1 set speed built, and still, I feel the set build is performing way better. Is it just me? Maybe I'm doing something wrong with the LoD build but I've been playing Wiz since 8 years so I think I know what I'm doing. I can get to GR120 with the set, and only to 115 with the Lod. What the hell is going on lol.
Hey Face, they’re close in power, but I think LOD is gonna win. LOD is Rank 1 on NA leaderboards at least. Did you have all ancients for LOD? Did you have LOD at 99? :)

Like witch doktor mana regen convention to the damage , as frenzy set attack speed , may converted to the extra damage multiplier. (I am strictly opposite to the berserker in every build). Not:i dont know if it is fixed, broken promises can be the best item ever created for this build
Do you think running meteor in place of explosive blast (and cubing grand vizier while wearing nilfurs boast) would be a decent way to squeeze more damage out of this setup or is the damage reduction from the orb of infinite death necessary to keep the shields up and therefore protect the squirts buff? I also wonder if meteor would also add enough damage to drop elemental exposure in favor of a defensive passive like blur or dominance to also make up for some of the lost damage reduction from blast. meteor rune of choice could be either meteor shower or molten impact, with molten impact probably being the better choice
How would you adapt this to a non-season variant? Without the dmg/dr from orb of infinite depth what would be the best replacement? I'd guess the next best option is crown of the primus and swap explosive blast for slow time? Or maybe go super defensive with both APD and Ashnaggar and toss Teleport safe passage in there
Giving this a quick look before the season starts - I notice The Magistrate says "Frost Hydra casts Frost Nova", I would assume this means we have to take the Frost Hydra rune to get the effect - is this an effect we want to avoid, and therefore we don't use Frost Hydra? Or is there some error here? Also, since I've loved the skill since D3 was released, I'm going to try a Disintegrate variant, but I'm torn between Convergence and Volatility. Looks like you're using Convergence here, but I am just not sure what the tradeoffs are between the different Disintegrate runes. You have any comments for that? ...just checked again and I understand Swamp Land Waders give +20% Fire Damage, which is probably the reason for the Convergence choice... am I on the right track?
Hi jigger: 1. It works for any hydra, the text is wrong (at least it worked on the PTR) 2. We aren’t using disintegrate, we just couldn’t use arcane torrent on the PTR because it was bugged. 3. Swamp land waders can roll 20% elemental for any element we want, so it’s a top tier choice for any build in the pants slot :)
@@Raxxanterax Nice, thanks for the quick reply. I've been playing around with it a bit more since I commented, and I was thinking of trying the Shocking Aspect rune for Storm Armor - am I correct in thinking that this will improve the effectiveness of Halo of Karini's legendary power? If so, I would be sacrificing some RCR, so that tradeoff will have to be evaluated, especially with Aquila equipped. Mainly I want to keep the essence of the build the same, but make it my own in some smaller ways.

This was an interesting video, it looks like a simple but powerful build maybe I would try next season. Hey Rax I would like to ask you: do you have a video explain a zbarb, the gear, the skills and the rol they play in a party? I would like to try it and I know a little about the gear but the rol nope. I tried it once but I got lost and didn't know what to do and my partner and I almost die (We play only hardcore).
Hey Raxx What would you change in this build to run solo speed GR (let's say 90s/100s) ? I know you recommend Vyr/Chantodo for speeds, but I don't really like the playstyle (Archon downtime, Blast spaming). Is it really faster than any Hydra variation ? Thanks !
you can certainly play this in solo, its just a little slower because you have to lay hydras and then wait for them to kill everything. I'd try to find a way to fit teleport into the build and tele from elite to elite killing them, but as long as you lowered it low enough, you could still farm with it just fine

Hi Raxx. Been using the set build since I don't have a lot of ancient pieces for the LoD set yet so it suffers in dps. I think the LoD might be slightly better, but I like the play style of the set version somewhat more. I was wondering for both sets what you would use for the cube in group play. I've thought of The Flavor of Time and Tasker and Theo for the set build, but I wondering if you had any recommendations. Thanks for any inputs!
We’re going to need the orb to keep our squirts buff up I believe. So that plus the sparker or death wish, whichever we aren’t wearing. Then as you mentioned, either FOT, TNT or furnace would be good :)
Hey Raxx! What do you think about a Tal's 6 Typhon's 4 build? You could get the 80 times multi from Tal's and the 4 extra hydra heads from Typhon's (with the juicy 80% DR)
Are you dead set on hydra having absolutely no place in 4man pushing, whether stacking ad could be a good trash clearer. Do you know if stricken increases dmge from each hydra head attack, that'd be 10 attacks a second which could be a decent rgk? Not sure if we've found the absolute end game potential of this build yet.
I'll say I'm 99.9% certain it will have no place in the meta. Crusader and Thorns necro are way too good of RGKs and do far more damage. For trash clearer, the nova necro and SB WD deal far more damage then hydra and have a lot higher AOE. Hydra won't make the team unfortunately
Question, you say all you have to do is cast Arcane Torrent (in this case Disintgrate) and summon hydra but don’t you also have to manually cast Explosive Blast? Even with chain reaction? Just want to be sure, because the Etched Sigil is casting the Black Hole. Thanks
I loved the momentum archon stack build for the insane power creep the longer you went through the rift. I hated it also because of the dependence on momentum. You die once and your ability to finish a grift goes in the toilet. At least this doesn't require momentum
Hi Rax, Do you have a viable LOD hydra build for non seasonal? The Orb of Infinite Depth is the game changer here, without it i find the set better outside season, and it's pretty slow and clumsy compared to Archon. cheers for the excellent work you do! you help people to survive the quarantine!
Hello! For non seasonal, it's probably best to drop the deathwish and cube the orb instead. Going to take a bit of a damage hit, but there's no good way to replace 80% damage reduction :/
And btw thank you very much for your commentary on the builds. Helps me understand without having to google for hours on some of the acronyms and skills
@Raxxanterax I won't have much time to play in the near future so I was planning to play non season for a while with a wizzard. What kind of substitute would you advise for the cubed orb of infinite death since curbing multiple weapons won't be available for non season.

I've done several of your outstanding builds on Xbox One and it's always been the same as PC until now. I've farmed all of the pieces but Orb of Infinite Depth is listed in the weapon category of Kanai's Cube right along with Serpent's Sparker (you have it cubed somehow in the Armor spot). Is it just this way on console? What could I cube in the Armor place instead? Many thanks!
Hello my friend, this build will start working in Season 20 (where the seasonal power is you can cube anything in any slot). So that's when it will work! You really need the orb to stay alive, so I'd wait until then to try it
hey raxx u can use Ray of forst also blizzard should drop the 6 piece bonus of 10k dmg for 10 heads and just give the bonus even though if u miss a head or not cuz then the LoD build will be better off
How are you using two weapon slots in your cube? In my cube it says Orb of infinite depth is a off hand weapon, not a piece of armor so I'm unable to equip it and serpent's sparker at the same time. Thanks for your help, really enjoyed your video you do a great job of explaining everything.
the power curve while gearing is really nice, just get the LOD gem and throw on random legendaries and you're already good to go for at least t6 or so. it only gets easier from there! until you start pushing high GRs of course : )
Assuming you have 10% IAS in Paragons it seems that the breakpoint for Hydra damage does not change between having 1 7 % IAS roll or 2 (with a 50% T&T). Is there any point to have 2 IAS rolls if 1 is enough to reach to maximum breakpoint ? Also by using enchantress you have more leeway to reach the 30 frames breakpoints with badly rolled items, do you think this should be considered ? Ressource buff from templar won't be useful but I always tend to play with him as he tanks stuff better - but here since you are facetanking everything anyway (audacity) templar seems useless. Thus, if IAS from enchantress do not allow us to reach a further breakpoint and templar is useless should we play this build with scoundrel ? Thanks
Hello my friend 1. I never assume perfect gear for the people watching, so yes, just get enough IAS to reach your desired breakpoint, but remember, for pushing, for stacking stricken with arcane torrent, the IAS may give you a breakpoint there to kill the boss faster, so it will have some value 2. I always just take the templar and never really considered what the others bring. 99% of the followers value is to give you an occy ring and take half of the damage for you, otherwise I'd just appreciate if they'd get out of my way :). I don't think any of the buffs one way or another are going to make you get the clear or not
@@Raxxanterax do you think LoN is still better now that the 6p has been buffed to 1300% and the 4p seems to have been fixed to have a minimum delay on the heads deaths ? If my calculation are correct (and I'm really not sure they are) LoN is still better, it's far more tanky (total dmg reduction at 92.8% with LoN versus 80% with set*, and it's if no Hydra head is dead) but set version with a Bane of the trapped lvl 150 has 10% more dmg. * = not counting APD and HoK which are in both sets. thanks by advance for your input also, note that d3planner has been updated so you might want to update the link :)
With having sub par item so far I like to stand on the black holes and while I spam my blasts and wait for then enemies to get drawn in on the 3rd blast most are dead or at least racked up enough stack they soon will be
Do you also take request for a build type? If so please consider the Triumvirate source. I am going to try it out, 400% extra damage for 6 seconds (stacks 3 times, 1200% damage) to Arcane Orb (which hydras can cast). Only have to cast a primary skill. Curious what you could do with this. Please send me a reply if you try it out so I make sure to look for the video you make on it, if it works well for you.
Deathwish is the last item I need. I got the offhand and helm earlier. Just started working on him 2 days ago. I used my barbarian to level the LoD, then just gave him a bunch of random gear the barb wasn't using.
@@Raxxanterax It's awesome. You helped me understand the explosive blast, and I got to grift 80. I'm still 30 levels below my barbarian, but I'm having a lot more fun with the Hydras. Whirlwind Barb gets monotonous after a while. I could probably get grift 90, I finished the 80 in less than half the time. I tried an 85 and got against those tall steel guys and they flattened me. I got frustrated and exited lol Do you think it's better to just farm grift 80 and hope the sword drops or farm a bunch of bounties to replenish my upgrade rare item supply. I'm out of white mats.
Does having the Frost Nova skill on your skill bar effect the Frost Nova your Hydras release depending on the rune equipped, like Bone Chill for example? Or does it not proc often enough to really matter/rely on?
The Magistrate Helmet claims "Frost Hydra" casts frost nova. But it seems to work with any kind of Hydra. I hope they correct that glitch in the description!
For greater Rift pushing solo, do you think this is better than the vyrs chan? And...I didnt think pets attack..??? Why invest the gem and gloves in them?
So with the frenzy barb new set, isn’t one of the set bonuses that all shouts are doubled? And wrath of the beserker is considered a shout, no? It would seem if the build worked like it’s supposed to, wrath of the beserker should have double uptime and I would think that should naturally help with the cool down
Lana Lobotomy wrath of the B isn’t a shout. There are just 3. Battle Rage, thundering shout and (?)ground stomp(?) but not WoB. Would be good if it was 🙂
at 3:17 you say that the WD can be lvl 1 but u dont get lvl 70 yellow pants with a lvl 1 guy and the recipe in the cube says you need a lvl 70 item to upgrade am i missing something ?
This build seems to be taking off. I've been doing nicely with it. I don't know how to figure out which of my weapons is superior. I tried to mess with d3planner, but couldn't find an answer. One Deathwish has: 3123 DPS, 1467-1836 Damage, 10% Damage, 961 Int, 5% IAS, 323% increased damage. The other has: 2934 DPS, 1382-1754 Cold Damage, 7% Damage, 6% IAS, 24% AD, 307% increased damage. On face value the first one is superior, but the second one has AD and Cold Damage, which adds the fourth element to Elemental Exposure. Is there was way to know which of these is better? They're both quite close, and you did the right thing to try and diagnose via D3planner. Very hard to say here, but I'd probably go with the 4th elemental exposure + the area damage. AD is just too good to pass up

Hi, thanks for the replies and help. I do not get how some on the PTR seasonal have reached G 142 (mostly Chinese) and managed to get some gems up to 141 already ,with tons of primals etc unless someone is using some overlaps programs and cheating elements such as bots.
There is a special vendor that showers you in legendaries on the PTR, that's how they get the primals. they way they get the high gems is by playing with the bugged hydra wizard
Seems odd that there is no Wizard pants to use here and we have to get WD ones. Is this literally for the +20% Fire dmg? It's been a while since I've played Wizard so cannot remember what the options are (and usually this would be a set piece on non LoD)
Because when I made the footage, arcane torrent was bugged and gave a huge power boost. So I used something else to show the real power. Arcane Torrent is what you want to use
I'm a little late here, but I dont believe APD applies to this build - freeze and stun are separate things. Ashnigar's Blood Bracers is probably a better defensive option, synergizing with Deflection very well.
I thought that was well, but people on the PTR who tested it swore that it worked. It seemed to keep my squirts buff up during the clear. But who knows. Ashnagars is a good option as well
I said the same thing about the barb. 1250% per stack would be nice to test and WoTB last's until death or WoTB lasts for 120 seconds. Having most builds revolve around CDR really isn't that fun.
Update: So I'm not pro, but I made it to 50 on the solo wizard board using the LoD set. For me it definitely seems stronger. A little more difficult to play, but better quality of life because you don't die nearly as much. You are sort of using the Templar in that video. Do you think the Enchantress would be superior in any way or stick with the Templar?
Right now I'm running magefist in the cube on this since the season hasn't started and I can't use the source in the cube. I farmed all the gear. Not everything is ancient yet but still does great dmg at T16. Only thing lacking is that dmg reduction from the source...
Hi...how can you get the orb in the spot it is in your build ??? In my cube it is in the same spot as the Wand and what can i put in there instead of it ?
I don't understand how to get Swamp Land Waders on a seasonal Wizard. I understand creating a level 1 WD to upgrade a rare pants to SLWers. But how do I get it from my WD to my Wizard? Season characters all have separate stashes do they not? Last season I wanted to run LoD Blessed Shield but couldn't get SLWers so I went with Roland Sweep Attack since that's the set they gave us last season for Crusader. Side note: Roland's Sweep Attack is a lot of fun. Never ran it before. :)

Im so glad you mentioned the bug up front so people don't misunderstand it's power, kudos for transparency and actually doing it with a different skill. So many other's aren't. Respect! :) One thing to note is that the set is bugged atm. You're not supposed to lose heads if you take dmg while shielded but currently you do. Several blizz have pointed out its a bug they already have the fix for but haven't pushed out yet, so hopefully that helps fix that problem :). Even still the LOD version seems just as good if not better, I think they need to tune up the numbers on the set slightly to make it as more of an attractive option.

This build looks super solid. I'm still not sure exactly how the new set even works, but thankfully LOD is here to pick up the slack.
One thing I'm interested in trying is an Archon variant. As I learned from the days of Manald Heal, the hydras do benefit from archon stacks, and with the new seasonal buff you can fit Serpent's Sparker, Tasker and Theo, and Magistrate in your cube and still complete your six piece Vyr set plus Fazulas and the Chantodo weapons by wearing RORG. I want to see how many rivers of fire a hydra can barf out with 200 archon stacks plus Tasker and Theo.
Your missing swami with that set up just a heads up. Unless your going to wear rrog. Which means you lose out on either coe or halo

The thing with Manald Hydras is: Eventhough they get the "Increases all damage by 100% per Archon stack" bonus, the Manald Heal procs won't get buffed by Serpent Sparker & Magistrate bonus. Your hydras, dealing damage for you, dealing increased damage, able to proc Manald Heal - by YOU.
Neither are Serpent Sparker & Magistrate "increases all damage"-bonuses, nor do procs from your gear count as triggered by the pets - they only are able to proc stuff FOR you. So Manald Archon Hydras would be about.... Hydra attacks dealing much more damage while triggering ManaldHeal-procs dealing the same damage they are now.
The Manald procs will be "still kinda strong", but regular Hydra attacks with their new x7x7 multiplicator will outdps ManaldHeal-procs. The old ReverseArchonHydra spec actually did make use of these Manald Heal procs by Hydras cause on that build, these new multiplicators for Hydras did exist - so the "14.000% Manald Heal"-procs were the actual damage dealing part compared to .... don't know and can't check atm... but any something ~500%? by the Hydra attacks (there, all damage increasing effects were effecting both parts equally. New stuff though is specifically increasing Hydra damage alone.)
But! That does not mean that HydraVyr will be worthless/playable or anything like that. It's just that the old "LightningHydra/ManaldHeal"-synergy did not get anything from this patch, just the Hydra alone and therefore outscaling any "Manald Heal"-setup.
One could still try to defend Manald Heal with arguments like "It still is a bit more damage than buffed Hydras would be doing without "Manald Heal"-procs", yeah, but even much, much stronger would be playing without Manald Heal & Paralysis passive and instead using "Hydra damage"-buffing effects instead and/or adding some supporting utilities.
*TL;DR: Manald Hydras are no real option, since Hydra buffs were applied to "Hydra damage buff"-items alone. Manald Heal procs additional damage - BY the pets, FROM you => Hydra damage outscales Manald Heal procs, while Manald Heal procs should pose as "additional intense damage spikes" to be worth using this mechanic - or else Manald Heal isn't paying up its cost.
@@Bififress0r My plan is to not use manald heal, and just use the hydra's base damage with the significantly increased attack speed.
Update: Blizz nerfed LOD a bit, and buffed the set a bit. Not sure which will be better. I added a second build for the set solo wiz underneath LOD if you'd like to try that. ptr.d3planner.com/500594914

It looks very console friendly since we, whom are playing on console dont have the luxury to point our teleports and we have reduced FoV, which makes leapers killing us leaping off screen to us. As this build is tanky as hell, it seems that this wont be a problem anymore :D

Legit build my man. I switched to this from a meteor build and it seems like I don't even take damage anymore. I went from level 50 rifts to 80. Gonna keep going and see where I plateau. Insane.

I was playing with Typhons, arcane hydras and Disintegrate - Intensify for more arcane damage and it was working pretty well, besides the bug dropping heads for getting hit even not taking damage. Was planning on running that until LoD gear was usable.
Does Stun and Freeze equal to the same thing for AP Defenders? I thought stun was only from Lightning skills while freeze is from cold?
I believe they do b/c when the frost nova procs, I was immortal. stuns can come from non-lightning skills, for example furious charge is a physical skill with certain runes and it stuns, and so does ground stomp :)

great vid raxx. I came back to d3 this spring after a looong break and picked up a LoD Hydra build immediately. I notice a few changes between the build you demonstrated here and the one thats currently leading the pack on icy veins (such using exposive blast in place of tp, which I think I'll give shot). one thing thats making me feel way outta the loop.. how are you equipping an offhand kanai in your middle / armor slot? 800 paragon levels, and i apparently havent learned how to do some things yet haha
Hey Josh, its the Season 20 buff. As long as you're playing a seasonal character, you can cube anything in any slot :)

This is a great guide! I don't like arcane torrent at all and use disintegrate. What would you suggest for gems both for solo and group play? Is taeguk always a must? Also what would you cube instead of unity for groups?
Hi Vicky, for high pushing with solo I'd use legacy of dreams, taeguk, and stricken (to kill the boss). taeguk is great because it also gives us an armor buff. For group play drop stricken for enforcer, and you can cube stone gauntlets if you're playing with a support who makes you immune to crowd control for huge survivability :)
...this makes so much more sense than whatever the bleep IV's telling me to use....
Though I still think that functionally Typhon's actually WAY better than people were saying it would be back on the PTR.
I literally did a braindead 110 clear with it below P800 and no augments or primals and 2/3 gems at 25.
Like, that's not a "bad" build by any means. At all.
The Typhon fixes REALLY boosted it an insane amount.
Just trying to push a bit higher so been trying some of the LoD builds because they're "supposedly" better for pushing, and my initial attempts with whatever this build IV is telling me to use is literally capping out like 20 GRs below what I did with Typhon despite having significantly better gear. (3 BiS primals! Like really, what is this build lol.)
...still kinda wish the community as a whole would update these guides post-season-launch consistently...
I would love to have perfectly accurate guides with perfect information for people all the time, the problem is blizzard changes this. The balance between LOD and the hydra set got changed like 3 different times before launch, every time nerfing LOD. the surprising thing is LOD is STILL the better option. So luckily 97% of this video's information is still accurate
It would be cool if they added a 4-piece set bonus to the Barb set that reduced the cooldown on Wrath of the Berserker by 50%, kind of like what Akkhan's set does for Akarat's Champion. Then if you took the Boon of Bul-Kathos passive and prioritized CDR you could have Wrath up permanently with no Zodiac or Messerschmidt's. I think that's fair considering you'd need to sink a passive and several item stat slots into it.
Thank you for doing these videos. Very helpful for beginners. As a beginner I have trouble with the rotations. I have changed my 1,2,3,4 keys to A,S,D,F as I was having trouble going up and down to get to the upper keys. Do you recommend that "Numlock" tip to keep Explosive Blast up all the time? Have you ever done a video on keybinding or on how you play with the keyboard? Thanks again.
I would definitely recommend numlocking explosive blast. I haven't done a keybinding video, but I should!

This is my first season and I am just now playing the Hydra set. I had a couple of Tal Rasha's pieces in it with a legendary boot to give me 600% meteor damage. Looking at this though, its amazing how tanky it is. I have most of this now so I will soon be giving it a try

@Raxxanterax In the video you mentioned you inserted Stricken in for a Gem. So did you remove Taeguk for Stricken for higher GRs?
I would use LOD Taeguk and stricken for very high pushes because taeguk not only gives 80% damage when fully powered, but a big armor buff to keep up squirts

- unity vs karini : dropping a good karini on live servers is way more difficult than dropping a good unity. Do you feel that dropping an AD roll to get 15℅ elite dmg by wearing unity is a viable config for end game or is it just OK until you find a decent karini
- what T16 build do you recommend to farm keys? I tried a typhon cold hydra with no channeling which was pretty cool. Dunno if it can compete with vyr/chantodo.
- most of the top clear that I saw in the leaderboard don't use Taeguk, they use lod, enforcer and trapped. Any idea why?
- do you think that using witching hour is a viable alternative for top push with 2 apoc rolls and a topaz in the helm? The quality of life will be lower as it will be way easier to drop Aquila buff, but I was wondering if it is possible at all to get some extra dmg, although it is currently not needed because of the AT bug
- what do you think of the arcane dynamo/spectral blades variant? I assume that your variant is easier to play, but how do both compare in term of dmg?
Very precise questions my friend. I can tell you know wizard. Using unity and cubing karini is fine, especially because it guarantees an 80 roll. T16 i think the best would be chantodo where you go back into archon super quickly. You can definitely use WH with 2 apoc and a topaz, but it’s hard to get both apoc rolls. The spectral blades variant is also great and I played it in groups, but in solos because I rely less on a specific rotation and more on whatever the rift throws at me, I found it annoying to stack dynamo. Also you have to take spectral blades as an additional skill meaning you have to give up something. Not sure it’s worth

1.That was the Convergence rune. 2. Both have a place but AT goes over walls etc. Imo is probably better for AOE. But I’m nowhere near an expert. Just like non meta wizard play.

I checked a couple build and guides videos and I think I've almost everything, if not everything, and even so I think my damage don't ever cross the 800b when max channeling. Idk what else to do to increase that
I'm working on getting myself an ancient helm and I might migrate to LoD Hydra to see if It gets any better.

hey Raxx, thanks for this, best guide out there by far. I have a question: I tested both the lod and the set builds, I might be wrong but I see way higher DMG numbers with the set since the season started. I also have 1 lod speed build and 1 set speed built, and still, I feel the set build is performing way better. Is it just me? Maybe I'm doing something wrong with the LoD build but I've been playing Wiz since 8 years so I think I know what I'm doing. I can get to GR120 with the set, and only to 115 with the Lod. What the hell is going on lol.
Hey Face, they’re close in power, but I think LOD is gonna win. LOD is Rank 1 on NA leaderboards at least. Did you have all ancients for LOD? Did you have LOD at 99? :)

Like witch doktor mana regen convention to the damage , as frenzy set attack speed , may converted to the extra damage multiplier. (I am strictly opposite to the berserker in every build).
Not:i dont know if it is fixed, broken promises can be the best item ever created for this build
Do you think running meteor in place of explosive blast (and cubing grand vizier while wearing nilfurs boast) would be a decent way to squeeze more damage out of this setup or is the damage reduction from the orb of infinite death necessary to keep the shields up and therefore protect the squirts buff? I also wonder if meteor would also add enough damage to drop elemental exposure in favor of a defensive passive like blur or dominance to also make up for some of the lost damage reduction from blast. meteor rune of choice could be either meteor shower or molten impact, with molten impact probably being the better choice
You could for more damage, but the DR from explosive blast is what lets you keep squirts up (double damage). Hard to replace that

How would you adapt this to a non-season variant? Without the dmg/dr from orb of infinite depth what would be the best replacement? I'd guess the next best option is crown of the primus and swap explosive blast for slow time? Or maybe go super defensive with both APD and Ashnaggar and toss Teleport safe passage in there
another super tanky option is to cube ice climbers and wear stone gauntlets
Giving this a quick look before the season starts - I notice The Magistrate says "Frost Hydra casts Frost Nova", I would assume this means we have to take the Frost Hydra rune to get the effect - is this an effect we want to avoid, and therefore we don't use Frost Hydra? Or is there some error here?
Also, since I've loved the skill since D3 was released, I'm going to try a Disintegrate variant, but I'm torn between Convergence and Volatility. Looks like you're using Convergence here, but I am just not sure what the tradeoffs are between the different Disintegrate runes. You have any comments for that?
...just checked again and I understand Swamp Land Waders give +20% Fire Damage, which is probably the reason for the Convergence choice... am I on the right track?

1. It works for any hydra, the text is wrong (at least it worked on the PTR)
2. We aren’t using disintegrate, we just couldn’t use arcane torrent on the PTR because it was bugged.
3. Swamp land waders can roll 20% elemental for any element we want, so it’s a top tier choice for any build in the pants slot :)

I've been playing around with it a bit more since I commented, and I was thinking of trying the Shocking Aspect rune for Storm Armor - am I correct in thinking that this will improve the effectiveness of Halo of Karini's legendary power?
If so, I would be sacrificing some RCR, so that tradeoff will have to be evaluated, especially with Aquila equipped.
Mainly I want to keep the essence of the build the same, but make it my own in some smaller ways.

The frost nova (and stuns from the follower) can proc your APDs. Good plan to try them both!
I liked the automation of the Manitou rune of spirit barrage, but the trash kept dying before I could soul harvest for my toughness.

you can certainly play this in solo, its just a little slower because you have to lay hydras and then wait for them to kill everything. I'd try to find a way to fit teleport into the build and tele from elite to elite killing them, but as long as you lowered it low enough, you could still farm with it just fine

Hi Raxx. Been using the set build since I don't have a lot of ancient pieces for the LoD set yet so it suffers in dps. I think the LoD might be slightly better, but I like the play style of the set version somewhat more.
I was wondering for both sets what you would use for the cube in group play. I've thought of The Flavor of Time and Tasker and Theo for the set build, but I wondering if you had any recommendations. Thanks for any inputs!
We’re going to need the orb to keep our squirts buff up I believe. So that plus the sparker or death wish, whichever we aren’t wearing. Then as you mentioned, either FOT, TNT or furnace would be good :)
Hey Raxx! What do you think about a Tal's 6 Typhon's 4 build? You could get the 80 times multi from Tal's and the 4 extra hydra heads from Typhon's (with the juicy 80% DR)

Are you dead set on hydra having absolutely no place in 4man pushing, whether stacking ad could be a good trash clearer. Do you know if stricken increases dmge from each hydra head attack, that'd be 10 attacks a second which could be a decent rgk? Not sure if we've found the absolute end game potential of this build yet.
I'll say I'm 99.9% certain it will have no place in the meta. Crusader and Thorns necro are way too good of RGKs and do far more damage. For trash clearer, the nova necro and SB WD deal far more damage then hydra and have a lot higher AOE. Hydra won't make the team unfortunately
Question, you say all you have to do is cast Arcane Torrent (in this case Disintgrate) and summon hydra but don’t you also have to manually cast Explosive Blast? Even with chain reaction? Just want to be sure, because the Etched Sigil is casting the Black Hole. Thanks
Yes, keep casting explosive blast as well. You can use the num lock trick for that skill so it auto casts if you'd like
I loved the momentum archon stack build for the insane power creep the longer you went through the rift. I hated it also because of the dependence on momentum. You die once and your ability to finish a grift goes in the toilet. At least this doesn't require momentum
Hi Rax, Do you have a viable LOD hydra build for non seasonal? The Orb of Infinite Depth is the game changer here, without it i find the set better outside season, and it's pretty slow and clumsy compared to Archon. cheers for the excellent work you do! you help people to survive the quarantine!
Hello! For non seasonal, it's probably best to drop the deathwish and cube the orb instead. Going to take a bit of a damage hit, but there's no good way to replace 80% damage reduction :/

I'd wear stone guantlets and cube ice climbers so get back the toughness I lost from the orb :)

You could definitely try that, I would put something in for survivability to keep squirts up :)
I've done several of your outstanding builds on Xbox One and it's always been the same as PC until now. I've farmed all of the pieces but Orb of Infinite Depth is listed in the weapon category of Kanai's Cube right along with Serpent's Sparker (you have it cubed somehow in the Armor spot). Is it just this way on console? What could I cube in the Armor place instead? Many thanks!
Hello my friend, this build will start working in Season 20 (where the seasonal power is you can cube anything in any slot). So that's when it will work! You really need the orb to stay alive, so I'd wait until then to try it

hey raxx u can use Ray of forst also blizzard should drop the 6 piece bonus of 10k dmg for 10 heads and just give the bonus even though if u miss a head or not cuz then the LoD build will be better off

How are you using two weapon slots in your cube? In my cube it says Orb of infinite depth is a off hand weapon, not a piece of armor so I'm unable to equip it and serpent's sparker at the same time. Thanks for your help, really enjoyed your video you do a great job of explaining everything.

This will be my first LoN/LoD build I have ever tried
the power curve while gearing is really nice, just get the LOD gem and throw on random legendaries and you're already good to go for at least t6 or so. it only gets easier from there! until you start pushing high GRs of course : )

Assuming you have 10% IAS in Paragons it seems that the breakpoint for Hydra damage does not change between having 1 7 % IAS roll or 2 (with a 50% T&T). Is there any point to have 2 IAS rolls if 1 is enough to reach to maximum breakpoint ? Also by using enchantress you have more leeway to reach the 30 frames breakpoints with badly rolled items, do you think this should be considered ? Ressource buff from templar won't be useful but I always tend to play with him as he tanks stuff better - but here since you are facetanking everything anyway (audacity) templar seems useless. Thus, if IAS from enchantress do not allow us to reach a further breakpoint and templar is useless should we play this build with scoundrel ? Thanks

1. I never assume perfect gear for the people watching, so yes, just get enough IAS to reach your desired breakpoint, but remember, for pushing, for stacking stricken with arcane torrent, the IAS may give you a breakpoint there to kill the boss faster, so it will have some value
2. I always just take the templar and never really considered what the others bring. 99% of the followers value is to give you an occy ring and take half of the damage for you, otherwise I'd just appreciate if they'd get out of my way :). I don't think any of the buffs one way or another are going to make you get the clear or not

@@Raxxanterax do you think LoN is still better now that the 6p has been buffed to 1300% and the 4p seems to have been fixed to have a minimum delay on the heads deaths ?
If my calculation are correct (and I'm really not sure they are) LoN is still better, it's far more tanky (total dmg reduction at 92.8% with LoN versus 80% with set*, and it's if no Hydra head is dead) but set version with a Bane of the trapped lvl 150 has 10% more dmg.
* = not counting APD and HoK which are in both sets.

With having sub par item so far I like to stand on the black holes and while I spam my blasts and wait for then enemies to get drawn in on the 3rd blast most are dead or at least racked up enough stack they soon will be

Do you also take request for a build type? If so please consider the Triumvirate source. I am going to try it out, 400% extra damage for 6 seconds (stacks 3 times, 1200% damage) to Arcane Orb (which hydras can cast). Only have to cast a primary skill. Curious what you could do with this. Please send me a reply if you try it out so I make sure to look for the video you make on it, if it works well for you.
So much for that idea, It does not trigger Hydra orbs. Maybe I will report it and they will patch it?

The elemental increased damage applies to all classes, its just for some reason the pants only drop for a WD b/c they're WD pants

Why dont you have the 2 typhon set in somewhere in the build? It seems pretty good for the hydra build. (Wondering why it's not a part of the build)
Legacy of Dreams builds cannot have any set bonuses, that's why. (LOD is a lot stronger than the hydra set)

Deathwish is the last item I need. I got the offhand and helm earlier. Just started working on him 2 days ago. I used my barbarian to level the LoD, then just gave him a bunch of random gear the barb wasn't using.

@@Raxxanterax It's awesome. You helped me understand the explosive blast, and I got to grift 80. I'm still 30 levels below my barbarian, but I'm having a lot more fun with the Hydras. Whirlwind Barb gets monotonous after a while. I could probably get grift 90, I finished the 80 in less than half the time. I tried an 85 and got against those tall steel guys and they flattened me. I got frustrated and exited lol
Do you think it's better to just farm grift 80 and hope the sword drops or farm a bunch of bounties to replenish my upgrade rare item supply. I'm out of white mats.
I always do GRs. The items that drop, blood shards, xp, and gem ups are too valuable to give up
Does having the Frost Nova skill on your skill bar effect the Frost Nova your Hydras release depending on the rune equipped, like Bone Chill for example? Or does it not proc often enough to really matter/rely on?
Tried that and no its not working only the Frost Nova skill that u ve applies rune like Bone Chill

The Magistrate Helmet claims "Frost Hydra" casts frost nova. But it seems to work with any kind of Hydra.

So with the frenzy barb new set, isn’t one of the set bonuses that all shouts are doubled? And wrath of the beserker is considered a shout, no? It would seem if the build worked like it’s supposed to, wrath of the beserker should have double uptime and I would think that should naturally help with the cool down
Lana Lobotomy wrath of the B isn’t a shout. There are just 3. Battle Rage, thundering shout and (?)ground stomp(?) but not WoB. Would be good if it was 🙂

at 3:17 you say that the WD can be lvl 1 but u dont get lvl 70 yellow pants with a lvl 1 guy and the recipe in the cube says you need a lvl 70 item to upgrade am i missing something ?
Of course you do. Your blacksmith just have to be lvl 12 and you can craft everything at lvl 1

At 11:46 you mention the build having bane of the stricken. Is this a mistake?
Only need stricken for super high level clears. Can replace either trapped or taeguk for it
This build seems to be taking off. I've been doing nicely with it. I don't know how to figure out which of my weapons is superior. I tried to mess with d3planner, but couldn't find an answer. One Deathwish has: 3123 DPS, 1467-1836 Damage, 10% Damage, 961 Int, 5% IAS, 323% increased damage. The other has: 2934 DPS, 1382-1754 Cold Damage, 7% Damage, 6% IAS, 24% AD, 307% increased damage.
On face value the first one is superior, but the second one has AD and Cold Damage, which adds the fourth element to Elemental Exposure. Is there was way to know which of these is better? Thanks for any insights and hope you're keeping safe.

They're both quite close, and you did the right thing to try and diagnose via D3planner. Very hard to say here, but I'd probably go with the 4th elemental exposure + the area damage. AD is just too good to pass up

The orb is an off-hand item, not a weapon which are two different slots.

Hi, thanks for the replies and help. I do not get how some on the PTR seasonal have reached G 142 (mostly Chinese) and managed to get some gems up to 141 already ,with tons of primals etc unless someone is using some overlaps programs and cheating elements such as bots.
There is a special vendor that showers you in legendaries on the PTR, that's how they get the primals. they way they get the high gems is by playing with the bugged hydra wizard
Seems odd that there is no Wizard pants to use here and we have to get WD ones. Is this literally for the +20% Fire dmg? It's been a while since I've played Wizard so cannot remember what the options are (and usually this would be a set piece on non LoD)
Also, as a complete newbie on Wiz, are there any fast T16/Bounties/Gems farm build for the class ?

Because when I made the footage, arcane torrent was bugged and gave a huge power boost. So I used something else to show the real power. Arcane Torrent is what you want to use

I'm a little late here, but I dont believe APD applies to this build - freeze and stun are separate things. Ashnigar's Blood Bracers is probably a better defensive option, synergizing with Deflection very well.
I thought that was well, but people on the PTR who tested it swore that it worked. It seemed to keep my squirts buff up during the clear. But who knows. Ashnagars is a good option as well
I said the same thing about the barb. 1250% per stack would be nice to test and WoTB last's until death or WoTB lasts for 120 seconds. Having most builds revolve around CDR really isn't that fun.
Update: So I'm not pro, but I made it to 50 on the solo wizard board using the LoD set. For me it definitely seems stronger. A little more difficult to play, but better quality of life because you don't die nearly as much.
You are sort of using the Templar in that video. Do you think the Enchantress would be superior in any way or stick with the Templar?
I never put much thought into which follower to use. I just use the Templar for everything, to be honest
Right now I'm running magefist in the cube on this since the season hasn't started and I can't use the source in the cube. I farmed all the gear. Not everything is ancient yet but still does great dmg at T16. Only thing lacking is that dmg reduction from the source...
Too difficult to farm the legacy of dreams builds, but this season I'll go Wizard.

I don't understand how to get Swamp Land Waders on a seasonal Wizard. I understand creating a level 1 WD to upgrade a rare pants to SLWers. But how do I get it from my WD to my Wizard? Season characters all have separate stashes do they not? Last season I wanted to run LoD Blessed Shield but couldn't get SLWers so I went with Roland Sweep Attack since that's the set they gave us last season for Crusader.
Side note: Roland's Sweep Attack is a lot of fun. Never ran it before. :)
You have one stash for season, one stash for off season.
They will share the stashes, you can transfer it
Could probably also put a topaz in the helm if your aquilas falls off regularly.
