- Made this movie ages ago. All footage taken around 2003.
Never got around to the 2nd part.
The venom looks really dated today but it was a fast boat down the line.
The moves that were current back then have been replaced by way more powerful ones. (arials etc) mind you ive seen some spinning going on at comps. I retired my spinning with the venom. - กีฬา

Thanks. Along came the kids and my spare time disapeared. Follow some of the french waveski guys and their dvds and you will see all the high performance moves.
Man, those are some gorgeous waves. A whole different type of kayak surfing than I've been doing on my mushburgers...
I watch kayaksurf videos, no problem if they are old, it is always good to see techniques and learn from them

The start is filmed on my local reef in Sligo. Some of it is filmed in Easky and the rest is Tullan Strand in Bundoran.

I've surfed a little bit in the ocean, but im curious, do you think river playboating skills would translate somewhat well into rolling ocean waves?

It's interesting how you say (at the time) that the boat was fast. looks a little slow but I guess the age of the footage doesn't it justice. The waves look great.
By 4:22 I think it's a slalom-kayak and no surf-kayak.
However, think with a playboat it's mor fun cause possibillitys of backward, spins, wheels and more.
my name is matt and i am a parpeligic looking to get into kayak surfing. im interested to know what the kayak is you are riding in this video and if it is something i can use? and if not (meaning if they have pedals), can you recomend something simalar to me that will work well for central amerca sized waves. any other advise you can give me would be great and hope to hear from you soon. take care.

a dessie dont say that about the venom!... i have the one in the vidoe now and ive been workin on spins. its a savage boat, considering my boat previous was a plastic play boat. i kinda broke the nose on it though, but its fixed and stronger than ever!
Great vid, best one out there by a long way for someone new to this. Just getting into it with a mega banshee. Any tips on rolling? Thought I was OK on WW til getting in a surf kayak.

Its been up a while and seems to help get ppl started. The banshee will help with your wave count as its an easy boat to paddle. Possibly use your local clubs pool sessions over the winter to practice getting solid on both sides. The wave can land you onto the weaker side from time to time. Ive danamged a few boats over the years from swims, if the boat gets away from you. Good luck and enjoy your waves. 🤙

Anyone can answer me if it's possible do this showed on video, using a small 190cm white water kayak? Greetings from Brazil.
Not really as it's the wrong shape and would be too slow. I think you would get stuck (sucked ) in the wave at some stage = carnage.
Surf kayak guys don't seem to have paddle leashes. Is this cos they can get in the way in a roll or (buoyancy aid)in some videos Thanks for taking the time to answer BTW.
Just never had one, so i dont know the pros and cons. Only had the paddles ripped out of my hands once in the last 10 years and it did result in a swim. Luckily one of the lads lifted them out of the water for me. Usually if i feel a big tug on the paddle i will go of one hand and try to hold onto it with the other. I nearly always have a pfd on these days. Saves rib damage if i get slammed onto the deck by a powerful waves. Enjoy you paddling

Quite a few paddlers are heading out into the path of kayakers surfing in. Not good.
What kind of kayaks are used for this sport?
Boats are surf specific. Made from either fiberglass or carbonfibre of a mix of both. They are manufactured in different parts of the world by small manufacturers. Check www.kayaksurf.net for all info
What's an IC boat?, that looked class. Was in Enniscrone yesterday getting wiped out by 3ft waves :)
Hi IC boat is 3m long without fins. Surfkayaking has two categories IC and HP (short boat with fins) Check out my instagram for more up to date clips if your keen.

Try not to come out. Id paddle the boat swamped before exiting. Still have some ability to paddle even when full of water. Swimming the boat is risky in sizey surf with rips and cross currents.

Its old footage from 20 years ago. All filmed on the NW of Ireland 🇮🇪. Im the paddler in the boat.
