I got back into mountain biking because Matt’s videos. Happy owner of a 27,5” san quentin 3 now. My first mtb was a Bear Valley with that cool zolatone paintwork. Then I rode a Nail Trail through multiple wheel sets (canti brakes eat through the sidewalls). Marin still fun for me.
Good video! I love my 27.5 SQ3 it’s a very unique and fun. I purposely purchased it as I was sick of my 29er and feeling like I was riding a tractor lol! I’m hoping you make the El Roy in 27.5 soon 😉
Hi - it's a unique frame, designed around the larger wheels (and you can't stuff 29"s into the 27.5: frame). At this point the frame option is limited to the 27.5" version, but time will tell if we add a 29" specific variant on down the line.

Depends on your local trails and personal preferences. San Quentins are more aggressive style hardtails, with slack geometry and stout components to handle steeper and more challenging trails. Probably not going to be the best pick for general city riding. A Team Marin or Bobcat Trail would probably be a better pick for a do most anything/extremely versatile bike. The Rift Zones hit what we consider to be the sweet spot in trail bikes, and the 130mm of travel out back is great for general mountain biking (or for riding off curbs and whatever the concrete jungle throws at you).
27.5" is going to feel a bit more playful and also have a slightly stronger wheel than 29", while the larger size wheels will smooth things out a bit in rougher conditions.
A 29 inch San Quentin I certainly did not expect that, even I support Marin due to myself being born in California supporting those locally, and I am betting Matt Jones is going to switch to Ohlin forks.

Why does the bike rattle so much
Great question! Its a hardtail riding fast over rough terrain so the chain makes more noise than a full suspension.
