I think you're right. I read out of context. But now that I see what she was saying, I wonder too. In interviews he seems like such a sweet person, joyful, but his music tells a different story.
Hi, my fellow good music appreciaters in the comments! I want you guys to think about what it would feel like if you put yourself out there, like Ben Howard, and wrote a song and poured your soul into it only to have people misconstrue the meaning and spout it because you "read it on the internet." People can be easily influenced by speculation and take it as fact. Take it the context you need if you cant understand his metaphors. Don't assume you know what he was thinking or feeling. And don't worry, Ben. I'm going to find these 4 people who disliked this song and smack them on the back of the head just like that I did the one who disliked 'I Forget Where We Were.'
Sissi Hamadache Oh, blinded, now I see That I could not hold you My orange tree, Left in the darkened room for three of us to share. Oh, maybe you were free, Before my blackened wing covered you, I took the sing from your song I made a bed, Where you don't belong. Oh, poor me, she fell beneath the wheels to help me up. Black Sea, I failed to be a light you found in love. Oh poor me, she fell beneath the wheels to help me up. Black Sea, the monster killed the melody you loved. Now I'm going places on my own. Blinded, now I see That death moves amongst us, And with such ease the rafters surround us. These silent beasts are hard to bear. Lonely, oh, no not me I have a grave to dig, fast moving feet. You gave me light Where it once was gone. I made a bed, Where you don't belong. Poor me, she fell beneath the wheels to help me up. Black Sea, I failed to be the light you found in love. Oh poor me, she fell beneath the wheels to help me up. Black Sea, the monster killed the melody you loved. Now I'm going places on my own.
+Sissi Hamadache I always thought he was saying "it's an Irish tune, it's about an old Irish tune" but the orange tree makes more sense since he does say that in the song.
he basically loved another girl, probably an ex, and got a girl so he could get over is ex, but realised he couldn't and went back to another girl and broke this girls heart in the process and he realised he wasn't meant to be with her
Ben Howard had a girl he loves but the poor girl hung herself and Ben is now forever alone. He has found another girl but he never loves her like he loved his ex. Poor ben lost everything he had. My girlfriend only broke up and i'm halfdead. Goddamnit
Well actually i'm not sure. Recently someone said to me that's made up but i just googled it after i saw someone saying that on a ben howard music video. I'm not 100% sure but you can google it ;)
Yes i can :P But i wanted to hear that from you :P the more i'm listening this song, more im feeling how deep it is. (I dont know if it's grammaticaly well wrote but im sure you'll understand what i mean :P)
Still doing it for me in 2020!
Takes my breath away, this is what my soul sounds like I swear.
I'm going to see Ben on Saturday, I hope he plays this! Such a tune
blows my mind!
.
.
Incredibly talented.
"It's about an orange tree, I had an orange tree named esmerelda"-Ben howard. Let that quiet all the debating on the songs meaning
That does not make any sense though :p I'm 99.6954% sure it's a joke
'It's about an Irish drink. I had an Irish drink called Esmerelda'
He made a bed for his orange tree lol
the joke is in the way that we rust and breathe again.
Hahah i LOVE the warm-up!!
love this song...
Minha favorita pra sempre ❤
Amazing song!

Une mélodie, une vrai voix sans artifices et tellement unique, elle donne l'impression que le temps autour de vous c'est arrêter ! MAGIQUE !!

Beautiful song. I sometimes wonder what happened to him.
He lost somebody...threaded through all his songs (seems to me)

"I'm going to play a new one for you. It's called esmerelda. It's about an orange tree.... I had an orange tree
Dominique Miller thanks i was trying to work it out thought he said orange juice
Sissi Hamadache Oh, blinded, now I see
That I could not hold you
My orange tree,
Left in the darkened room for three of us to share.
Oh, maybe you were free,
Before my blackened wing covered you,
I took the sing from your song
I made a bed,
Where you don't belong.

You gave me light
Where it once was gone.
I made a bed,
Where you don't belong.

Deep Shade, what you think is "poor me" is actually "call me"
I killed the monster
Not particularly, I shouldn't name it 'pop', he still plays with the heart.
he basically loved another girl, probably an ex, and got a girl so he could get over is ex, but realised he couldn't and went back to another girl and broke this girls heart in the process and he realised he wasn't meant to be with her
Max, hadn't thought of that; interesting.
Ben Howard had a girl he loves but the poor girl hung herself and Ben is now forever alone. He has found another girl but he never loves her like he loved his ex. Poor ben lost everything he had. My girlfriend only broke up and i'm halfdead. Goddamnit
That's true?
Well actually i'm not sure. Recently someone said to me that's made up but i just googled it after i saw someone saying that on a ben howard music video. I'm not 100% sure but you can google it ;)

Yea i understand it. It is a quiete deep song. It's so dark. That's why people assume that it has something to do with a (dead) ex girlfriend.
what the? is that really true?
shocked o.O
