only found this a month ago just finished all 5 series id go as far as to say thats one of if not the best thing ive ever watched in my life 37 years on this planet & ive seen some crime dramas & thrillers in my time big up the irish for making this loved them anyway the accent the celtic girls everything about ireland but this series topped it off
I just got done watching this show for the first time ever (I'm in Scotland, btw). Exceptional stuff, imo. The writing, acting, editing, and musical score was fantastic. So much tension and violence, yet laced with lots of humour. Gritty is a great way to describe the show, and for me it's up there with The Sopranos and Breaking Bad.
Did anyone know that Nidge is in the opening sequence in Saving Private Ryan ?.....I read about him before SPR was released. It mentioned something like "an up and coming Irish actor/ new talent", and described the scene. This was when he had hair though. Have a close look

If you watch it again / take 15 years off him / put a full head of hair on him and try the fact that hes acting a terrified dead person , its pretty clear. Misogyny on steroids, the writing, and direction is so primitive and dated. What does it say about Ireland that this series was commissioned with public money, made this way and relatively recently too; and was so popular with Dubliners in particular. Sad.
