“If you stop, you’ll drop the coffin.” Brilliant. He makes such beautiful and perfect sense out of this very difficult (interpretively) march.

I love the camera angle with the closeup of her hands and Hugh's face in the background

When you demonstrated the octave chords in the major section of the Funeral March, it makes me think of the glorious sun. Your suggestion of adding some pizzacato on the rapid notes of the Finale projects the rhythmic sense, which rekindles the vitality of the whole piece.

The audio is terribly out of sync with the video, but anything other than that, this was a great masterclass

Compare this masterclass to the one given by Gyorgy Sebok on the same movement. ("Gyorgy Sebok masterclass parts 4, 5 & 6")

It may the first time that Keona has heard the word "inexorable".

what students come to master classes.. first, she did not learn the dotted rhythm in iconic macabre part of the sonate, and second it took her 15 minutes to understand it by the maestro explanations. He says "diminuendo" she plays "crescendo" etc. Poor Stephen, which is brilliant in any case though

Do not agree with Hough at 8:03 I much prefer Rubenstein's recording where he plays the this in strict time. This is a funeral march; it is not something to dance to. I actually preferred Ms. Lim-Rose interpretation of the piece.

hOUGH REALLY TAKES IT BACK TO THE OLD GRAND ERA OF THE OVER EXULTANT 19TH CENTURY PIANISTS . wOW . i GET WHAT HE WANTS - MOSTLY . I think its a mistake to try to turn finale into a chromatic tune it should be dark all the way through whisper fewer accents If Chopin wanted a tune in the finale he would have put stems on the melody notes . THIS IS TRAGIC MUSIC uCHIDA AND ZIMMERMAN KNOW !!HE DID NOT IT SHOULD BE MACABRE A SECRETIVE DEATHLY RUSTLE , less smooth . Her funeral march was so mature some of the best playing .Her ends of phrases : superb ! What a FABULOUSLY musical player she is . i NEED TO hear a Pleyel and erard and play thm myself. Lighter key depth ? Chopin would have loved big sound of Steinway but what do we do in his music .The first mov is loud while the finale whispers. What a scary conception this is death music surely !
