Like it or not leatherman are pricing themselves out ive been a loyal leatherman customer for years and still have the supertool 300 and squirt. I recently lost my surge but i cant justify £160 on a new one it is getting to be stupid money when while maybe lacking the quality there are clones like this for 1/3 the price
I picked up one for 30-ish usd and got the 4 year warranty for 7$ and it's a great competitive tool. If I was Leatherman, I'd be worried about there being copies out there that are on par with their best stuff. The only differences between the Surge and the Bibury/Di30 are the 2D proprietary bits vs the 3D bits. For 30$ & the 4 yr warranty compared to around 200$ for the Surge, both bit kits and bit extender, I'm very happy with the Bibury.
The other difference is the "t-shank". It's not a real one, it doesn't fit t-shank tools from other manufacturers. So people need to be aware of that. It's a big no for me.
There's a "swisstech" version floating around on the AL website's dakoyu tool store going by 37 in 1. Only notable difference is the swisstech logo hollowed out of the scales
Very much so. It's like price difference between the nextool flagship with the blade exchanger and the standard with the knife. Come to think of it they would probably make a small fortune just selling the blade exchanger.
On my dl30 because it uses standard T shank I just bought a variety pack of various t shank saw blades metal included they are too king to store in handle but I keep them in the pouch
I bought the previous iteration Bibury DL-30 clone (non-black), got 40% off one day on amazon. My favorite thing about it is actually the weight - I have used it as a hammer a couple of times
I also have old version - and when I saw this one on amazon - immediately ordered it. The funniest part is - I proposed them this scales design when I contacted Bibury store about broken file in the old version, and they really made it! I was blown off when saw it! Love this tool.
So I have to say I’ve been brand loyal for a very long time and I don’t know but I contacted leatherman 6 months ago about warranty work on my wave and was given the run around which I have never had a problem contacting them before but this time was different. It’s almost as though they jacked up the prices but don’t back their product anymore.. so I’m gunna run it my sxs and I’m gunna pick up one of these at 1/5 the price.. leatherman needs to really smarten up cause how many more people might have had an experience like me? I’m all for quality but when it’s not backed up I’m moving on.
G'day Sir. We feel there is nothing wrong in making copies or clones, as along as the changes/improvement made are functional & has some durability, furthermore not having to use proprietary addition. Think Leatherman have caught up with that mentality including others as well. Yeah...we use magnets too with our mods. Work smart, not hard.! It good to see the underdogs are catching up & moving up the ladder. With current world situation, affordability is great marketing. There's a lot more blue collar workers than white collar. Cheers mate from Australia.
I like the tuxedo two tone, something different. I just buy whatever I can for the best price. Do you put up an artificial or real tree for the holidays? I like the saw implement on bigger multitools like this Surge clone for light pruning purposes. I pruned the bottom of the Christmas tree with my Leatherman Arc. The saw is very similar to the Wave (second generation and plus) its rounded at the tip and no nail nick. Same pattern and very aggressive. I've had the Arc for a month and its doing well. I do miss my Wave, Curl and Bond in the drawer but also enjoy the Rev as my secondary carry. I'm using the Arc 95% of the time. I opened two cans of cranberry sauce with the Rev over Thanksgiving. Its nice being a bit more prepared than just carrying a dedicated knife around. Cheers to multitools, Mr. Kincaid!
I stuck with the daicamping DL30 cuz it’s way easier to store tweezers with the larger skeletonized holes in the handles. Plus makes it kinda lighter. Idm the handle material tbh it doesn’t make much of a difference from 2-3 cr. It’s the 7cr blade that really makes the difference. Plus the gold/bronze version on the daicamping with the colour options is just as cool as the black and silver imo. Gold/bronze is different. Black and silver are very common tho it’s one of my favourite colour combos as well. But u lose the ability to put tweezers as easily on the bibury. It’s more of a tight space and would scratch against those nice black coloured tools. And tbh not a fan of black tools they just get banged up anyway. Got them on my wave and surge. For me tweezers matter because they’re a portable compass. Need easy access to them
Sorry for the late reply. Just saw this and thanks for the response! Yes I do! It works great. I usually keep it with the file so doesn’t scratch against the blades. Can fit in a bunch of other stuff too cuz the skeletonised cut outs are massive. Makes it probably weigh less too that the others like the swiss tech version as well. I just use tweezers a lot but maybe that’s just me!
@@folksurvival I completely agree. I was interested in this tool until I saw the weight. My Surge is heavier than I care for so most of the time I usually carry my Wave or Bond. I wish Leatherman would come out with a full size “lightweight” model.
@@virgilbarnett3770 Agreed. I have the Bond too and I like how light and compact it is. I considered a Wave+ but now I'm looking at the Swiss Tool Spirit X.
Sad to see the Chinese ripping off the multitool market just as they did the watch market. Keep buying these things, and then wonder why there are no American product manufacturers anymore.
I understand what your saying..but the quality of leatherman has got worse and worse with each one they bring out ,And at the same time being the most expensive multi tool in the world ...I can but 10+ multi tool from china for the same price of a leatherman, And X10 Chinese ones can be in ten places when I need one and if it breaks then it's cheap enough to replace from china in 24 hours ..
If it's a collector's tool, buy it. But if for work you can't beat the price of a Chinese tool. I come from Europe and the slogan made in the USA means nothing to me. I'm sorry but I respect my own money.
I believe the patents have expired. So they aren’t ripping anyone off. This is how the system is designed to work. You get a certain period of exclusivity and then everyone can compete.
Leatherman can eat a 🍆. They raised the prices, steal designs, and engage in the typical fuckery that seems be going on everywhere. They're not the leatherman of 8-10 years ago. Sincerely their patent ran out they've been a money first company.

Can it fit a pocket clip?
I plan to do a video on pocket clip options. Short answer no to Leatherman's pocket clip but other options are out there.
Budget Surge 🤔
Does it have a metal saw
On my dl30 because it uses standard T shank I just bought a variety pack of various t shank saw blades metal included they are too king to store in handle but I keep them in the pouch
It comes with two for the t shank.
@@hvacbudget8600 they are both wood saws no?
@@pj4433 yes. But most t style jigsaw blades should work. They will need to be shortened if you want them stored in the tool but they should fit.
😂 Just remember folks, you get what you pay for...Good luck!
Using one at the moment, decent quality tool - feels worth at least double the $40 I paid for it.
Im glad these things are getting closer and closer to overpriced LM

@@deadly134 That is unfortunate they didn't care more!
Why not make the wire cutters into triangles so you can use them 3 times by rotating them
That's how Gerber did them, but Gerber used too brittle of a material so they shattered often.

Something wrong if making clones and sold them as using original brand

We've been using an increasingly tattered artificial tree these last years. Great to hear the Arc is alive and well!
Good tool but a little bit to bulky for my pocket
Mine arrived Yesterday to replace my stolen Leatherman Wave and it's a Beast and at £50 a 3rd of the cost of my Wave.
Nice!
I really like that color..
the magnet is much recomended because then you also just have a magnetised screwdriver
The scissors are insane on these id even say victorinox good
I agree!
6:10 these black blades are only surface colored ? Once you sharpen one it is still black underneath or silver metalic ?
Silver underneath.
Thanks for the vid been checking this out but like your magnet hack👍

$31 if you are a prime member and $59 if you are not.
It's 41! Not 31, prime member here..
Someone on Amazon is selling it (black and silver) for $33 right now, on sale.
