    Addendum:
    As hoped, the twins DO have Dúnedain Bodyguard and not Dúnedain Scouts. (The files are doing as they are told for once!). The Dúnedain Bodyguard are showcased in the last 5 minutes of the video.

      I just lost Mithlond to Ardunaim invasion. I had the warning message but I thought they are going for Gondor. My closest army able to retake Mithlond is like 10 turns away. Aaaach I just fucked up a difficulty 1 campaign :D

      @@petrmiros9908 don't beat yourself up,it happens more than you think,they come with good troops and even if you're there it's not a automatic victory,I had an almost full stack of sindar in Mithlond and still had to do the battle multiple times to win.

    "Glorfindel is just a fun toy to have at the end of the campaign." Yeah, unless you have to wade through a veritable ocean of uruks, gobbos, trolls, men and orcs to solo kill an unleashed Isengard AND Mordor. Poor Lionheart has been at his high elf campaign for over 130 episodes now.

      even the snow orks will grind down full noldor army's as they have get terrain advantage and you get a penalty in their territory and their half trolls, pale uruks and many armour piecing units will inflict significant casualty, and in the late game they can produce full stacks in 1-3 turns.

    If any of you guys are really mad about the bodyguard of the twins, just change it in the data files. It’s the simplest modding anyone can do and Galu has a video showing anyone exactly how to do it(granted it’s an older video).

      Galu has a video on how to edit starting generals bodyguards, not ones that get spawned in later. Because of the way they coded it you have to go to the campaign scripts files and edit them there, even though they show up in the file he tells you to edit them in. Other wise they won't spawn in properly and will get the scouts as he said in the video.

    How to build a barracks in DAC:
    Other factions: capture settlement, build barracks, train troops
    High Elves: capture settlement,
    - make sure you control Mithlond to be able to build Teleri barracks
    - make sure you have captured Ost-in-Edhil before you can ever build a Noldor barracks
    - make sure you have Imladris to be able to build Noldor barracks
    - check if the region is a mountain or grassland region to be able to build Noldor barracks
    - check if the region is alongside a major watercourse to be able to build a Teleri barracks

      @@commandersol932 Sure, except that you see that info once, probably a good 6-12 hours of playtime before the barracks event (which might be three days to a week of real-time depending on lifestyle) and trying to remember what settlements and terrain types you need for each troop type is non-trivial.

      Yeah, walked around with a full Erebor stack yesterday in Mordor through the east and they just ignored it. Never even had to declare war on Mordor to destroy the ring. Ladieda don't mind me, it's not like I'm here to eliminate your entire faction or anything as he walked right past multiple stacks near Seregost and Barad-Dûr. Taking a merchant cog from Erebor to Lest sped things up considerable

      ​@@aaronbaum54​ Same Glorfindel. See Peoples of Middle-earth, chapter 13 Last Writings, Glorfindel. Essentially, after his death he was re-embodied in Aman, and later sent back to Middle-earth.

I believe the slow spread of information, Amazon not being the everything store it is now, and the lack of Wikis on everything contributed to this. I always held out hope that they were the same elf, though.

    Perhaps the Orocarni dwarves as a horde nation, much like the Mongols and Timurids in vanilla. This makes it less weird when the Blue Wizards spawn as rebels.

    I really like the concept of the "Dunedain of Arnor" or the such, cuz it gives the possibility of freeing up Aragorn to be a Script reward for them or gondor (who I won't lie has always kinda irked me I could never get as king when playing Gondor) or something of the like. As well as giving them a unique role as being the unifier of Eregion and all the lost northern kingdoms, aka with beacon of hope. That being said I can't remember Remant of Angmar's script but if i recall they also tip a toe into this as well. so it could possibly be like Beacon of Hope Vs Angmar in trying to claim arnor under one banner! I really look forward to what's in store next week and more importantly, in version 5!

    The twins actually spawn with the regular dunedain bodyguard, and you need to send a diplomat to the weathertop. Anyway, most horse archers have a missile attack of 5 or better (except one or two militia tier units available to rohan and khand), so the dunedain cav is not that good imo..
    You do get a warning (I think 4 turns) before the Adunaim invasion

      Is there a way to disable it. It really mess up my economy keeping all that troops there just for the scripted invasion, and given elven slooow recruitment you have to star gathering them 50 turns in advance

    Galu, I disagree with your estimate on the numbers of the surviving northern Dunedain. There is a great article online about their estimated population, I wholeheartedly suggest you look it up, it's quite optimistic in that regard!
    Basically, the author estimates their numbers to be in the low thousands, since the rangers are a fraction of the male population, cause the rest has to grow food and stuff. Also, while Halbarad was only able to gather 30ish rangers in a haste, there would be more rangers than that (even though Barliman states they've gone, but what does he know - the folk didn't often see them anyways and they might just be struggling with reduced numbers, along with the women and children (who were, admittedly, low in numbers, as Tolkien stated).
    I hope you don't much take to heart my butchering of the article like this, because you can see this is a topic that I needlessly get passionate about! :D

    Just to know: The barded horse is a horse with plate armour to protect it from enemy arrows (you already know it). So, when it attacks, the weight of the armour is bigger than usual, thus resulting in lower speed. That's why I suppose that the creators of the game have done this slower animation. But do believe me, if they run onto a unit, no matter how heavily armoured, they will crush it.
    As for the High Elves in general, I'm pretty sure that they will crush easily whatever is upon them, as the Elves are the best warriors of Middle Earth, they are hardened against Morgoth in the First Age, plus the Second Age battles against Sauron. These are the fights that matter the most, not the silly adversaries between nations and gendres, like we Men do- or the Dwarves. They are united under only one rule and they never get split. Cirdan, despite being a lord of great power within the Elves and the first Shipwright of the world, was always under the High Elven King's control, of whom the last descendant is Elrond. That's why I approve the High Elves as a united faction, thus Imladris and Mithlond as one faction. And I believe it is also lorewise. So, I support Galu and the mod team in ths decision (as an answer to the continuous moaning of the style "they ruined the game by merging Imladris and Mithlond").

      I do believe Galadriel also has a claim to the Noldor title of the High Kingdom since both she and Elrond are distant relatives of Gil-Galad, Elrond being the lieutenant (arguably second or third in command to Gil-Galad), and Galadriel actually being a Lord of the original Noldor invasion/migration and an actual member of the House of Feanor.
      Not attacking what you said, just sorta responding to that part about Elrond. I do agree with the merger, for even though there is no High King anymore, Cirdan and Elrond (and in parts Galadriel) worked together to see that Elves of the land were well cared for and protected and it makes total sense to have them together as one faction. Now whoever should be the faction head, due to game restrictions, is up for debate, whether it should be Cirdan or Elrond (even though most likely, one doesn't take precedence over the other, they rule separate regions and work together for the greater good).

      @@forrestadams9340 , thanks for the reply. It's not only a good argument, but also gives extra information of how the High Elves worked together in the Third Age. Galadriel could claim for herself the title of the High Queen and I think no one would say no. She was the most powerful in Middle Earth besides Sauron himself. But she didn't. Even when Frodo offered the One Ring to herself, she was very close to accept it as a High Queen, but she rejected it. You give better than me the perspective of the High Elves in Third Age. This is why I agree with the merge of Imladris and Mithlond, and thank you for the support- hence my like in your comment.

      @@forrestadams9340 I would put Elrond before Cirdan, he is also the actual heir to Thingol’s throne in middle earth, technically Mithlond was part of Beleriand so it makes sense technically Elrond goes before Cirdan

    I'd rather the twins have standard Dunedain bodyguards. That way they won't instantly die when literally anything looks at them funny.

      I agree, the Dunedain archer cavalry is quite weak and in the late game useless. I am currently playing the Northern Dunedain campaign and pitting myself against Isengard. I usually have to use all my arrows to even kill like 2 - 3 of the late Uruk-hai armored soldiers, not to mention I cannot send them against any other normal archer unit as they would be decimated.

      I think he misspoke here. I'm playing 4.5 as the High Elves now. Elladan and Elrohir do have the standard Dúnedain Bodyguards with their fantastic steelbows and axes. Their bodyguards, however, do not start at full strength, so in addition to the Dúnedain Bodyguards, they each get a single unit of Dúnedain Scouts as well. Once they are replenished up to full strength, Elladan gets about 70-ish Dúnedain Bodyguards as the faction heir and Elrohir gets about 50. Hope that clears everything up! :)

    Honestly despite how hyped up elf archers are, on the whole Ive found that the Dalian black arrow archers are better against endgame unit spam from the nation's that actually make it to the endgame.
    They probably do less damage overall due to lower accuracy, but you really FEEL that armor piercing when you have to put down 3 units of Oleg Hai.

      But they arent the only AP Archers are they?
      Edit: I just checked. All Units that use the Dunedain Steelbow are also ap (so that is Dunedain Steelbowmen [duh.], Dunedain Bodyguard and Temple Bowmen.

      Also I don't think I've ever even played Mordor.

      The High Elves are better in that respect than they used to be, though. They now have the Mariners, Sindar Axemen, Elladan and Elrohir's steelbowmen bodyguards and Smiths of Eregion. Sure, most of that is melee, but with how good their archers are, you should be able to get your melee units where they need to. Not only that they also have better and more anti-cavalry units now.
      On the other hand, as Galu said, armour-piercing ranged units are probably the High Elves greatest threat. It is fortunate for them that most of those are lore-wise mostly found amongst their allies. And Enedwaith, who are so much weaker that you shouldn't need to expose your generals to their javelins.

    Just a small tip from my ered-luin "evil" campaign.. the region with the Palantir next to Mithlond (Undertowers i think it's called) have the Palantir as a custom building and that building gives you -10% building cost reduction GLOBALLY. So you can literally rush them for that sweeeeeet discount and then you could go for the province of the south blue mountains that has gold AND silver in that province.
    The campaign should be easy but with those 2 tips you should be able to expand faster and have more money for your very expensive units :)

      I'm doing a "good" Ered Luin campaign, and this checks out. Just did it in my new High Elf campaign (my favorite faction with Ered Luin, Khazad-dum, and Lothlorien not far behind). I am making bank, with more money than any other faction by simply taking those two areas. To be fair, I am also slowly expanding, and took Western Khazad-dum as well as Ost-in-Edhil. It's pretty nasty. Thanks for the tip.

    The Amanyar Rangers have lost the textures on their bows after the v4.5 update. I've waited for this video to see if this was the case just for my install but it's visible here as well. Their bows now have a bland white/gray area instead of the finely detailed black with white elvish script patterns like before (can be seen from their unit description picture). Interestingly the bows retain their texture when they draw their swords and put the bows on their backs. Is this related to the "re-mapping" of the HE models mentioned in the v4.5 changelog?

    I think the different Elves should have different recruitment times, with the High Elves having the best units, best armor, most expensive units and slowest recruitment. The Woodland Realm had the highest population and unlike the others their population actually grew durning the 3rd age and they weren't into sailing to the west, so their recruitment times should be faster, with their big weakness being a lack of heavy armor and limited cavalry, while having a ton of great archers, shock infantry and a few spearmen.
    Lothlorien should still be more defensive and more of a middle ground between the 2, the elven fractions should feel different from eachother.

    Would it be possible to implement golden armor to the later game units if we upgrade them to the highest tier in future updates? Maybe it's my ocd but I love uniformity and obviously I'd love to recreate the feel of the fellowship sequence

      I too wanted this, i thought if you rebuild the special smith building its armour upgrade would make all the noldor wear the golden armour.... sadly not.
      Also i know the noldor are already roided to all hell but a entire event script for an extra 1 armour and no visual change IF you retrain them in that one specific region is a little disappointing

    I read an essay on northern dunedain population. I don't quite remember it but it concluded that there must be thousands (maybe around 5,000?) of dunedains left on Eriador. Still, an impossible faction, but one I am really grateful for.

    Horse speed does work as intended by CA,the upside of a slower armored horse is that it has more mass in med 2 and it penetrates deeper in enemy formations.

    Any chance you would consider adding Maglor as an extremely late game event. I know we don't know what happens to him after he throws his Silmaril into the Sea but goddamn it would be badass to have a son of Feanor in the mod.

      Me too. He spawns out of Map and has 0 Units and no traits. 0 Command, Accumen and only 2 loyalty. He's pretty much useless :D It's Not tragic because you don't need him, but it would have been cool to have an extra custom general.

Its good that you add that bug here so arachir might see it just want to know wheter or not you can still use the guy (he is kind of my favourite commander since he was introduced back in version 0.5 or something :D )

      @@spirit959ful I tried it with console commands but he´s completely broken once inside the map. Like i said, 0 Units and no traits. He´s just a model without a Unit, can´t move him into any settlement. Had that bug some time ago aswell playing as Mordor when Sauron spawns in. I think some certain Generals tend to bug out when spawned through script.

    Playing the HE campaign right now and the twins do not spawn automatically, you do need to move a diplomat to Ost-Sul. In the video I believe you state nothing needs to happen, but moving a diplomat is next to nothing so pretty accurate.

    I think the high-elven castles and cities have different strategy map models than the silvan elves galu! i could be wrong but i saw a white castle that the high elves built in annon en orod in my dunedain campaign! :-)

    The stats of the Eregion smiths make them seem like they're the best unit in the game, but they actually lose 1 on 1 to Bolg's champions. Last I checked, the only unit that can decisively beat Bolg's champion in melee are the Nazg-Hai

    Okay so I was one of the whiners who was disappointed with the twins having Dunedain bodyguards, but after playing the High Elves I have to admit I love the bodyguards for the twins. Especially Elladan with the extra numbers is SO powerful. What also helps is that I love the look of the upgraded bodyguards. So I would like to officially say: you were right Galu.

    I was upset at first about the scout bodyguards but then I saw you upgraded the scout's accuracy from average to high and their missile attack from 4 to 5 so they are considerably better than they used to be so I'm okay with this. Most people are just used to the scouts getting few kills with their bows, charging in and immediately dying. Now, I think they'll be noticeably better archers and they can run down fleeing units so they should be useful.

    I kinda wish they'd be called Calaquendi, firstly since most factions have their kinda indigenous names, but also because its such a proud and ancient faction it doesn't seem as pretty to have them get this Westron english nickname that they would not call themselves

    I got glorfindel in v3 and put him into his first battle, he charges a unit of snaga archers and 5 of eldarinwe lancers die immediately and he dies as well wtff???

    Please tell me what campaign difficulty is recommended to have a challenge campaign but not impossible I am playing as dunedain in very hard but It's almost impossible to hold more than 2 or 3 settlements and angmar never stop to attack me with millions of armies. Should I set to difficult? Or normal how do you play it ?

      I'm not the greatest total war player but I found it challenging enough to set the campaign difficulty to medium and then the battle difficulty to very hard or hard. I'm at turn 20 on a new dunedain campaign and both angmar and moria are attacking me from North and south but in lesser numbers, although they are gradually getting better and better armies. I haven't ever finished a dunedain campaign but that's made it a lot more enjoyable in the early game at least

      Game is balanced on very hard/very hard. Everything else brakakes the game. You can put it on lower but it will brake your game both on campaign and battle. You'll get some weird stuff. So it's not worth it ever. Also no campaign is hard. Northern Dunedain have become way easier now than they were with old Angmar. I have beaten Angmar while also holding Tharbad and Suduri against Dunland and Eneswaith. You can fight Enedwaith, Dunland and Angmar at the same time. Only issue is Moria. Try to get peace with them and they gonna leave you alone or take their regions that border you and gift them to Elves for some money. They defend you and pay you so winwin. You can leave Fornost and if you can pull it off have most of Angmar armies attack Bree instead of you which helps alot. There's lot of ways to pull it off. Gondor campaign is way harder than Northern Dunedain could ever be.

    Hey, I’m playing on v4.6, and I’ve reached about round 95 and there hasn’t been the invasion yet. I’m holding off on really expanding my western province as I’m waiting to first crush the Ardunaim - maintaining my 3/4 stack at Mithlond is killing my economy. Is there any reason why they might not have come yet? In a Let’s Play I saw the invasion come at round 105ish. Is there any way of knowing when they’ll come? Dunland, Isengard, Angmar and Moria are all winning, I’m running out of time 😁

    54:20 I am going to have to take exception to you describing Gil-Galad's Company as "the best archers in the game." You seem to be forgetting that the stat in the unit card are per-model. The High-Elves own Noldor Archers are much better at killing things with arrows. Details of my testing is below, but the Noldor Archers did much, much more damage to low tier troops than the GGC, and even had an edge against tougher opponents. Volume of fire is a big deal.
    Testing Details: I tested both units against both a fragile target (Uruk Hai Raiders) and a resilient one (Uruk Hai Infantry), with each pairing having five iterations. All tests were on Grassy Plains, the archers were put into 3 ranks at their start position and put on fire-at-will. Tests were stopped when the target entered melee. Of note, during the testing, all tests against the Raiders were in the rain (for both Archers)and against the Infantry was in clear weather. As well, for whatever reason, the AI was unwilling to charge for most of my tests: For all Raider tests, as well as Infantry vs GGC, the AI marched their unit up to about 15m from my archers, paused for the space of 2-3 volleys, and then issued a new march order (when zoomed in, I could hear the new movement voice call), and would march into my archers, without ever running or charging. Only in the Infantry vs NA matchup would the target force charge into my archers. In 3/5 tests, the Infantry paused very briefly (1-2 sec at battle speed 1) at the 15m mark before charging, while in the other 2 tests, they transitioned directly from the march to the charge at about the same point. Because of this, the test results against the Infantry are biased in favour of the GGC by probably 7-12 kills.
    Results: Against Uruk Hai Raiders (204 models, 6 armour, 2 shield), the GGC killed an average of 66.4 models before melee, or 32.5% of the target unit. By comparison, the NA averaged a full hundred more kills (166.2), or a whopping 81.5% of the target unit. Against the Infantry (154 models, 14 armour, 4 shield) the GGC managed 21.8 kills (14.2%), while the NA killed 28.2 (18.3%). And remember, that is even with the Infantry remembering how to charge against the NA. If you remove ~6 kills from the GGC (say they get 2 extra volleys with 3 kills in each, which is a very conservative estimate) their kill rate would be barely above 10%.
    In summary, despite their impressive stats, Gil-Galad's Company are nowhere close to the "best archers in the game" because their small unit size severely limits their damage output. Their performance is better the tougher your target is, but unless you are fighting all-elite stacks of Ered Luin units, Noldor Archers will out damage them with arrows. Against low tier troops, like the Uruk Hai Raiders, even thoroughly average archers like the Dalian Longbowmen will do more damage at range (38.7% kill rate, 1 test).

    I’ve asked before and I don’t want to be rude. I know I can use older versions of the sub-mod, but why are the two high elves combined? Similar gameplay? Making room for new factions? - isn’t the point of DaC smaller factions? love the work. I am just out of the loop.

      By popular demand, one of DaC's major plans for V5 is going to be a script for the player forming the Reunited Kingdom (ie, the political unit that Aragorn rules at the end of the books), which will include the ND, Bree, later Gondor and possibly Dol Amroth; this will include new models, troop trees, buildings etc. Med II has a hard-coded limit to the number of the factions that can be in the game files, so if they want to create this new faction, they needed to get rid of an old one. Given how narrow and constrained Imladris was, and how incredibly boring the Mithlond campaign was, they decided that merging those two was the easiest way to free up a faction slot for them to use for the Reunited Kingdom.

    How interesting that you can't build Teleri barracks in any Woodland Realm starting regions. Seems rather unfitting as there are rivers there and also that it's an elven land populated by the Teleri-descended Silvan elves.
    Galu how do you explain this?
    I also want to suggest something for the reunited kingdom script related to the Arnor discussion; Make Arnor the alternative to the reunited kingdom.
    If you play as the ND you could choose to focus on rebuilding Arnor rather than uniting with Gondor, the reasons for this could be many, maybe Gondor refuses since Denethor is still alive and he will accept Aragorn as king over his dead body, or maybe Aragorn is dead and they won't accept a juvenile Eldarion on the throne. Maybe Sauron is defeated and the ring destroyed and Aragorn is not needed. Or maybe you the player just want to rp not recreating the reunited kingdom or choose to go with a steward-ruled Gondor instead. If you as Gondor denies the reunification the ND might gob for Arnor instead. Maybe if Denethor's line destroys the ring and ends the threat of Mordor forever they will be legitimized as Kings in the eyes of the people of Gondor.
    A reformed Arnor doesn't need to be anything more than a event popping up and your name changing from Northern Dúnedain to Arnor. That should be doable since Third age did exactly that.
    Now you might say "But then it's just a simple name change, the ND is already Arnor in everything but name". Yes true but a simple name change is all I ask for. :)

      I tested them against all other elite pikes in V3 (they were called the Imladris guards but had the same stats I think) and they beat the first legion and all the others.

    I prefer having the Dunedain has they are now over Arnor but the reunited Kingdom sounds like fun and a good mix of both worlds. I think people just like the feeling of restoring Arnor than playing them.

    The GM History guild does not actually provide global culture boost, which is annoying. However I have noticed that the law bonuses are much higher than the tooltips suggest.
