Brother, I chipped a tooth when I was 17 back in 1977. I learned quickly and always have a pair of scissors in a certain pocket. Looks like you're going to be eating good tonight.
Summer time in NC on the coast can be a made house. Just fished Sunday and of course caught a keeper flounder that I had to put back. If you ever need someone to fish with let me know. I kayak fish the coast often!!! I got the chipped tooth to prove it!!!! Great vid.
The "bait collection" segments help keep it real. Every big one you land serves as motivation to get out, and get down, with the local fauna that's not commercially available. 🐚🐚🐚
We call those fiddlers China backs because of the purple pottery like markings. Those are monsters! Keep the ones you do not use and freeze them in a freezer bag. They still work almost as good as fresh. I leave the large claw thinking it makes Sheepshead bite harder, but maybe I should take them off. They bite super soft at the Charleston jetties. You have to have ESP to catch the damn things. ;D In the winter I do well with live shrimp for convict fish. I use very little weight and right near the rocks. Seriously I swear you have a fishing horseshoe in your pocket. Love your fishing trips.
injoy your videos, some times at the Charleston, jetties, I'll take 12 fiddlers, put in mason, jar lower, down, sheepheadtrying, hard to get them, dinnertime, drop another down hooked, dinner tonight.
Love it when you target sheepshead always makes for great viewing. Also I agree I prefer 15-20 ish inches. They just taste better then the really huge ones.
Yep, I used to use my teeth for a lot of things. I once tried bending some pins on a PC part back with my teeth and chipped my front tooth. Somehow the enamel has mostly came back in. But after going to the dentist more this year and taking closer looks at my teeth, I've got craze lines all over my fronts..
Glad to see you back on the ocean. Looks like you had some fun, even though the rough water. I too contend with the jet skis around here. Can be aggravating if they want to get too close. On the other side of that, I have seen a few people fishing from them.
I found some of those giant fiddlers on one island in the intercoastal. I haven't told a soul about it because reds and black drum LOVE them. Gotta keep my personal island a secret.
perfect vid. catching the crabs; 15 min time length; nice keepers...perfect for my grandkids. too bad no ocean fishing for us in montana. keep it going.
Another great video as usual. Down in Ocean Isle this week. I have always caught the regular fiddlers, but after seeing this video I got on some red joints. They are going to be a game changer I think. Keep it up. You've taught me a lit!
I taught fishing classes to kids for the state and the hardest part was remembering not to use my teeth for line and split shot! lol nice vid as usual.
Most all of us learn as a kid with freshwater perch. They bite constantly consistently. Saltwater a bit different. I know saltwater canals that have tons of hardhead catfish that take the bait within one second every time. Garbage fish or not with kids lack of knowledge in this case is bliss. Learning the basics is exactly the same sport/game/or trash fish.
Canals have so many hardheads & big ones. Try not to laugh, now? It occured to me that's the best place I know of to "try" to set a state/fed record. Lol. A record fish with ur name in the book is still in the book. Even if it's a infernal HARDHEAD. lol
Yes hello am living in the state of Arizona and I see these videos and I would like to fish for sheepshead fish so please tell me what state ur fishing in so I can catch some, tku
@@juliojrcapenya5344 your gonna have to move or make a road trip. Personally I go saltwater around Galveston island Texas, but recommend State park Corpus Christi. Galveston crime rate has gotten bad.
I have a right tooth that can cut up to 50 pound test mono typically it’s more like 20 pound or less. I didn’t learn my lesson when I was a teenager. I try not to use the right tooth lol but sometimes you get impatient lol
you ever try using the coral method? some people buy this 6-8" plastic garden borders.. tha have teeth one side to push into the ground.. they will get 20-30feet of it set it into the ground then chase fiddlers to it then bucket them up
I do not use live bait any more. I did for 40 years but now being an old guy I now just feel sorry afterwards for hurting the live bait. For bait now I have been very successful using hotdogs for both fresh and salt water. Great videos.
I know me too , I try to limit me killing things . I still take fish home to eat , but I catch em on lures and Gulp . I will use cut bait from a carcass in the cooler
Hey Elias, I love watching your videos! I just wanted to ask whether you prefer line-to-line connections from braid to leader or barrel swivels, and when you would maybe prefer one over the other. Thanks!
I was just out there over the weekend, went through 2dz fiddlers without a sheep. Could be my technique due to being new to fishing for them. How far off the rocks/depth do you recommend? Or just drop on what I see in the finder? I did catch a small cobia out by the AR though.
Blackfish are one of the best eating fish in the water. Way better than reds or sheephead. Too bad they are not bigger. You sure do put a lot of work into one fish. FYI oyster toad fish (dogfish)are very edible as well. Never tried a lizard fish but they are clean water fish and they only eat live food. In St.Pete, FL I caught one that was 19 inches long, so I know they get big enough.
Never thought of using the mud crabs my parents have a house in Maryland where I literally watched 500 moving in a parade towards the water thru marshland. I will now try using some for bait
Hey I'm wondering, are the sheep heads' up where you are because they are a migratory fish? This is actually the first I've ever heard of the species. This has to be the first time that I actually even heard of the species called sheepshead. I wasn't doing a lot of fishing for the past 5 years, but started to get psyched up again to do it after I had a couple of operations for stuff like back operation and hip replacement. Now I want to get out of this house and fish so badly you can't believe it! However I've been seeing the sheepshead aren't around here anymore I'm in Florida. Or they're not as prevalent I should say. Just curious. I'm getting as much information as I can, I want to do pretty much what you guys do for a living. And I think I can do it. It's very interesting to me, and I don't mind putting up with a lot of bull cuz I'm pretty much of a bullsh**er at times myself! I don't think it will be easy, but I have determination and I think that plus perseverance, I think it will be very opportune for me. Wife's a little concerned about how long it would take to make any money from, but I think I still want to make it a go at it. Thanks for all you've been doing, I'm getting a lot of good tips. God bless you and all you do!
My dad scolded me every time I used my teeth. He chipped a tooth as well. Wish he were still here scolding me Speaking of that chipped tooth, what knot were you trying what that happened? If love to see a video on the knots you use.
You are courageous to venture on the ocean with a kayak.. im so affraid of sharks that even a wooden boat i would not go. And grabbing those crab without fear of alligators.. you're really courageous. However, i must admit, it looks pretty fun.
your fear is unusually high. most shark bites occur in 2-3 foot of water, wooden boats are extremely safe, as long as ur in them. alligators are small, and will rarely charge
I lost a nice really Fluke on my dad 2 years ago by not using a net... Haunts me to this day. I have PTFLS now. (Post Traumatic Fish Loss Syndrome). Lol... I have been trying to figure out what net you normally use for kayak fishing, if you wouldn't mind telling us? Either way thanks for the great videos. I admire your passion for it.
I used to be able to cut 50# test monofilament with my teeth but I now I am wearing Invisalign in an effort to correct all of the teeth grinding I’ve done in the past. Hope your trip to the dentist goes as well as your fishing usually does. Oh, and I need veneers to the tune of about $25K. Take care of those choppers and Peace brother.
You and sheepshead fishing just go well together. I respect you don’t take more than you need
Whilst bathing in the blood of Fiddler Crabs XD

You're welcome Sir. Wish you great fishing trips.
Enjoyed watching you catch fiddler crabs.

"Not even a hook in him. What are you doing man?"
Hahahaha!!! Good old lizard fish.
Hey Elias, Great vid and great advice, some I need to take, thank you, Peace out.
Watching you try to get that fish out of the water was sickening
7:50 catching small is better than catching none. 9:36 one for the pan. Good man. Save the resource
Never heard of red joints, but I have basically been raised in the grass and mud. The purple ones are the ones I always go for
Woooooooo always love it when you slay with crabs❤️
Love it when you target sheepshead always makes for great viewing. Also I agree I prefer 15-20 ish inches. They just taste better then the really huge ones.
Just excellent !!! Glad you are back in the salt water .
5 species in one trip! The bite might have been slow but you caught that decent red and those nice sheepies 👍💯💯

That’s great that you show us how to get those little/big buggers😜
I absolutely love live fiddlers in SC
Nice job with that extra large sheeper!
One of my favorite things to do is go pick fiddlers and oyster crabs to fish with so satisfying lol
Back alive is way better than a freezer. Nice fishing.
Tight lines and supper!!
Is there a way of setting a trap for those carbs? Sure would be nice to set a few traps and go pick it up full of crabs.
Nice as always. I have caught dink sheeps but have not targeted them in the kayak but they look like a great fight.
Yep I chipped a tooth too but for biting a knot, then I bit the line another time and knocked out the filling repair
💯 agree about turning the big ones loose if you get to fish all the time.
I found some of those giant fiddlers on one island in the intercoastal. I haven't told a soul about it because reds and black drum LOVE them. Gotta keep my personal island a secret.
lol they are on most islands and salt marsh areas! Those redfish spots I’d be more concerned about them being found out

Great Show everytime I watch.
At least you didn’t run into a flock of the dreaded crab eating sharks. Thanks for the video.

Here in Florida we have a larger species too possibly the same one just the claw is a vivid red there quite a bit larger than the normal ones
Sturgeon Creek park in Leland is EZ PZ mud fiddler collection spot.
How do you hook the fridder crab and such you cut the big claw
I already had a spot picked out that looks just like that here on Tangier sound in Maryland to grab some of those. Meat fishing!
I'm hoping to fish Murrell's inlet jetty next summer in June. Will it be worth trying to getting sheepshead from the bank?
Definitely split the front tooth biting fishing line. I thought I was the only dangling to do that. I feel better now. I love watching your videos
you ever try using the coral method? some people buy this 6-8" plastic garden borders.. tha have teeth one side to push into the ground.. they will get 20-30feet of it set it into the ground then chase fiddlers to it then bucket them up
Pretty cool idea
Leg lift! Fishing hacks! Outstanding!

And on your woman

Whats your favorite size bottom sweeper for high tide at the jetties?
The ol' leg lift! Lol. Love it!
The same thing happened to me. Chipped my left tooth biting off line. I still do it, but I'm selective on how heavy of line I will bite off.
I was just out there over the weekend, went through 2dz fiddlers without a sheep. Could be my technique due to being new to fishing for them.

Try live shrimp instead. Bite their tail off and hook from the back on a Jighead. Way different bite. Way easier to catch

Hi dear… you were fishing before with red fishing twenty inch tube lures , if you don’t mind can you tell us where we can get that red tube?
Hey Elias. Good to see ya man. Ha, now you have to feel that chip till you get4 it smoothed out.
Love the reel
That leg lift was one of a kind! Lol
I'm kinda the same. Going after my live bait I tend to turn into a 10 yr old kid. Lose track of time having too much fun chasing bait.
What size jig head are you using?
Topsail island is loaded with fiddler crabs if you are ever close
Was that out towards destin area ?
What kind of kayak do you use?
Good job as always
How far do you drop the bait?
I live up by Rochester, was wondering which finger lake you fish in?
Carefull kicking them sheeps. Dont wanna pull a steve Irwin. Lol
NOT FUNNY! Lol, ok, it is, but kinda harsh.
Another great video!! How does that zipper on the cooler hold up in the saltwater?
I think most of them are coated in something that keeps them from corroding.
Never thought of using the mud crabs my parents have a house in Maryland where I literally watched 500 moving in a parade towards the water thru marshland. I will now try using some for bait
Tell me about that cooler bag you have there. Always looking for something portable to ice my fish

That might be the reason there's no emoji for a Crab ... I looked.

Nah muds are better. Trying to pinch gas dollar pennies.
The old leg lift trick, eh ? Smooth move.
Do u get tics in that marsh?
“Wow that’s so cool, jet ski’s”
This morning? We talked to when you were coming back in and you stopped down the jetty from us.

i cant find the catch and cook fluke cheeks video !
Just cut the cheeks out. Sauté‘ in butter with garlic and a splash of white wine.
Mm mm mmm
You did a catch n cook with sand fleas, how bout fiddlers
