As an anaesthetic nurse I have seen so many suicides from so many young people and some older, especially in the last two years. Some of the relatives have donated organs of their loved ones in the most difficult and challenging times. I am grateful that you speak about mental health. Please take care, both of yourself and of Occy.

Max I’m a 67 year old retired woman with a back injury, bad knees and arthritis in most joints. The exercises you mentioned are physically impossible for me to do now. You should get the travel wash bag for the desert . You just put some liquid detergent and water and the zip the bag and slosh and roll it around then let the clothes dry on a line outside

I am 47 years old and have battled with mental health since my early teenage years. Depression and anxiety are one hell of a thing to battle with on daily basis. Though I am not financially capable of assisting I am definitely here to be one of your biggest supporters along the way. I have been a follower since day one and look forward to your continued journey and seeing all the amazing things that you get to show somebody like me that lives in the United States that will never make it there. Max- found the discourse on the cellphone technology/Internet access very helpful....and I'm in the States. Nearing retirement myself- I learned years ago RV'ing that you CAN'T even depend upon service in a paid campground....and the Internet to me isn't an option, it's a critical need. Just like water, shelter, food.....gotta have it. With the advances in technology, the ability to camp anywhere- and yet still be "connected", is priceless to me. THAT's what it's all about: the best of both worlds.

That number is absolutely devastating Jamie. Things need to change and getting rid of the stigma so people feel okay to be talking about their own mental health struggles is a huge step 💛
You hear that doctors are the worst patients and the handyman whose house is falling apart... I would recommend laying out your med kit and checking to see that you have what you think you should. Sometimes we think we put things in that we didn't. Other things I might forget: Tire patch kit. Sunscreen All of Occy's meds refilled Have a great time on your adventures!!!

For emergency communications in the outback, the only real option is HF (high frequency/shortwave) Amateur radio. There are many Australian Amateur radio operators that can guide you along in acquiring the needed license. You will have access to emergency contacts as well as email and other modes if required. Look into it

Grady Max and Occy. I’ve got a 65c15 Iveco Daily and it has the dual rear tyres. I have 4 BFG K02 225/75/16 on the rear and 265/75/16 BFG K02 on the front. They are the only tyres that I will use on my van which is fully fitted out as a motorhome. We have done nice big trips in the Iveco with these tyres fitted and they are the absolute best. I highly recommend using only the BFG for that application and weight. Huge thumbs up 😎

Look into getting a satellite phone. You won't get telstra everywhere in the outback. It saved us on our last trip into the outback. Deflating tyres also good but that probably won't work with dual tyres. Have a great trip out there. Keep an eye out for dingoes with Occy as they can be aggro. And soak it all in.

i know how you feel I'm on vancouver Island in BC Canada, and usually by April the weather is changing to summer, and right now its just been grey and cold and rainy, i'm over it, 6-7 months of grey is enough, this years its looking like we might only get a couple month summer,.
Also watch out for the Roos, emus, camels🐪 donkeys, cows you name it, it’s out there don’t drive at dusk or dawn…and keep an eye out for our beautiful wedge tail eagles so slow taking off on the highways and roads after feeding on the roadkill
I have a set of Mickey Thompson ATZ's on my rig, with duelly's. I had to put a 1 inch spacer between them so they didnt rub. This works wonderfu;;y. I have over 30,000 km on them so far. The size is 33-12.50 16" Best tires I have used in 45 years of driving. They have a almost Mud terrain pattern that works great. CHEERS AND SAFE TRAVELS Steve h.

Occy looks so much happier out if the rain. He was like a puppy with his toy. He might like a small dog pool for your adventure. Assuming water is available, they are great for cooling dogs down. They also fold up nice and small.

I can't do anything but l watch you and l love your support l lost my son from suicide 4years ago we traveled around Australia when he was five. I took him to Darwin and places in the northern territory before heading to Queensland spent time in Melbourne before going to Alice springs he enjoyed talking to native people being British we didn't view them the same. I really recommend a full size shovel (or 2) to dig out. I got stuck in mud and only had that foldable shovel. It was very slow going to dig. If we’d had a full size shovel or two I reckon we could’ve dig ourselves out enough to get the trax under but in the end we couldn’t dig out enough so we had to find someone with a 4wd drive and winch to pull us out. Maybe if we’d had a smaller van it could have worked, but the heavy high roof sprinter was too much in the mud. Highly recommend a winch for remote areas too.

A shorter clip for Occy in the dessert will make you both more comfortable. We are so happy that you are making this trip happen... lots of planning. Bottle jacks are small enough to fit in the van and are useful for getting unstuck in the desert sand using rocks or boards beneath.

@@MaxandOccy just saw this now! I can’t remember the grouping of short stories I read a few years ago. There was also an amazing documentary about Dreaming that is only accessible through educational institutions :( but since you’ve got me looking into all of my aboriginal literature I’ve decided to read Carpentaria by Alexis Wright and That Deadman Dance by Kim Scott. They’re more fiction based in real life rather than non-fiction/memoir type books but they’re both written by reliable authors.
I did that journey and it’s amazing I went all the way from Melbourne on the springs Alice springs and it was stunning by Annette mask because the flies are crazy

As an anaesthetic nurse I have seen so many suicides from so many young people and some older, especially in the last two years. Some of the relatives have donated organs of their loved ones in the most difficult and challenging times. I am grateful that you speak about mental health. Max I’m a 67 year old retired woman with a back injury, bad knees and arthritis in most joints. The exercises you mentioned are physically impossible for me to do now. I am 47 years old and have battled with mental health since my early teenage years. Depression and anxiety are one hell of a thing to battle with on daily basis. Max- found the discourse on the cellphone technology/Internet access very helpful....and I'm in the States. Nearing retirement myself- I learned years ago RV'ing that you CAN'T even depend upon service in a paid campground....and the Internet to me isn't an option, it's a critical need. Just like water, shelter, food.....gotta have it. With the advances in technology, the ability to camp anywhere- and yet still be "connected", is priceless to me. THAT's what it's all about: the best of both worlds.

That number is absolutely devastating Jamie. Things need to change and getting rid of the stigma so people feel okay to be talking about their own mental health struggles is a huge step 💛
You hear that doctors are the worst patients and the handyman whose house is falling apart... I would recommend laying out your med kit and checking to see that you have what you think you should. Sometimes we think we put things in that we didn't.
Other things I might forget:

For emergency communications in the outback, the only real option is HF (high frequency/shortwave) Amateur radio. There are many Australian Amateur radio operators that can guide you along in acquiring the needed license. You will have access to emergency contacts as well as email and other modes if required. Look into it

Grady Max and Occy. I’ve got a 65c15 Iveco Daily and it has the dual rear tyres. I have 4 BFG K02 225/75/16 on the rear and 265/75/16 BFG K02 on the front. They are the only tyres that I will use on my van which is fully fitted out as a motorhome. We have done nice big trips in the Iveco with these tyres fitted and they are the absolute best. I highly recommend using only the BFG for that application and weight. Huge thumbs up 😎

Look into getting a satellite phone. You won't get telstra everywhere in the outback. It saved us on our last trip into the outback. Deflating tyres also good but that probably won't work with dual tyres. Have a great trip out there. Keep an eye out for dingoes with Occy as they can be aggro. And soak it all in.

i know how you feel I'm on vancouver Island in BC Canada, and usually by April the weather is changing to summer, and right now its just been grey and cold and rainy, i'm over it, 6-7 months of grey is enough, this years its looking like we might only get a couple month summer,.
Also watch out for the Roos, emus, camels🐪 donkeys, cows you name it, it’s out there don’t drive at dusk or dawn…and keep an eye out for our beautiful wedge tail eagles so slow taking off on the highways and roads after feeding on the roadkill

I have a set of Mickey Thompson ATZ's on my rig, with duelly's. I had to put a 1 inch spacer between them so they didnt rub. This works wonderfu;;y. I have over 30,000 km on them so far. The size is 33-12.50 16" Best tires I have used in 45 years of driving. They have a almost Mud terrain pattern that works great. CHEERS AND SAFE TRAVELS Steve h.

Occy looks so much happier out if the rain. He was like a puppy with his toy. He might like a small dog pool for your adventure. Assuming water is available, they are great for cooling dogs down. They also fold up nice and small.

I took him to Darwin and places in the northern territory before heading to Queensland spent time in Melbourne before going to Alice springs he enjoyed talking to native people being British we didn't view them the same. He had lost faith. The rain was relentless!
I really recommend a full size shovel (or 2) to dig out. I got stuck in mud and only had that foldable shovel. It was very slow going to dig. If we’d had a full size shovel or two I reckon we could’ve dig ourselves out enough to get the trax under but in the end we couldn’t dig out enough so we had to find someone with a 4wd drive and winch to pull us out. Maybe if we’d had a smaller van it could have worked, but the heavy high roof sprinter was too much in the mud. Highly recommend a winch for remote areas too.

A shorter clip for Occy in the dessert will make you both more comfortable. We are so happy that you are making this trip happen... lots of planning. Bottle jacks are small enough to fit in the van and are useful for getting unstuck in the desert sand using rocks or boards beneath.

Uluru!!! I’m so excited to see your journeys out and around in this chapter of van life. I’ve had some Australian aboriginal literature that I’ve really enjoyed and also culture/history I’ve loved learning about. And with you being aware of the hardship the aboriginal Australians face makes this even more exciting to watch.

@@MaxandOccy just saw this now! I can’t remember the grouping of short stories I read a few years ago. There was also an amazing documentary about Dreaming that is only accessible through educational institutions :( but since you’ve got me looking into all of my aboriginal literature I’ve decided to read Carpentaria by Alexis Wright and That Deadman Dance by Kim Scott. They’re more fiction based in real life rather than non-fiction/memoir type books but they’re both written by reliable authors.

I did that journey and it’s amazing I went all the way from Melbourne on the springs Alice springs and it was stunning by Annette mask because the flies are crazy
Might need to get Occy a very short coat clip, so bloody hot and humid in the NT. Occy will absolutely love the aircon 👏👏
