Same here. Although it can be fun to dig through obscure design drafts to essentially reverse engineer how WG came to a certain made-up ship, I enjoy following the actual deeds and exploits more.
I admittedly kinda blew past the NewO, Pensacola, etc on rhe hurried grind to DesMoines(my first T10, 5yrs ago)and Worcester. With so many new lines and gimmicks, I never go back to play these. Now im kinda inspired to do so. Sometimes the old solid ships are more fun to play than the newest gimmicky ones!!
I still play Des Moines sometimes, and while I do love my Cleveland and Seattle, I haven't been that keen on getting Worcester - I prefer the aggressive style, and it's very satisfying to get up close & personal with a DM.
This is my favorite t7 USN ship. Also using the concealment mod can be quite effective since NO has decent base concealment, you can suprise dds and other cruiser with that build.
Yes, absolutely. And the manoeuvrability is pretty good to start with. I tend not to go concealment often, since it feels like I mostly blaze away for most of the round anyway, so it's kinda wasted, but the merits are certainly there.
Had it from the beginning, but never thought it had great AA, so not sure if that's been power crept. With it's maneuverability and rapid reload, it's a surprisingly good DD hunter.
Lacks slightly in utility to hunt DDs, but certainly possible. And the AP shells are basically Pensacola's, so they don't overpen as easily as e.g. German ones.
Of the US heavy cruiser, the New Orleans-class suffered the heaviest loss if I'm not mistaken. Sister ships Astoria, Vincennes and Quincy, all lost in the battle of Kula Gulf, against Japanese night raiders, which included Tenryū, the t3 cruiser, and, if I'm not mistaken², Kuma too. That is considered the worst defeat in US Navy history.
It’s like you read my mind. Currently grinding my way through this ship. I don’t need gimmicks, just give me a solid all around ship. This delivers. It’s definitely not the best t7 cruiser, but you can do a whole lot worse.
Yep, I think she's showing her age a bit, but still a ship that can do decently well. And this is one of the really consistent lines in terms of style, after the slightly quirky Pensacola, it's straight up progression, with increasing amount of dakka & AA, but bow-in island waifu life it is all the way up to Des Moines.
Honestly, it didn't matter to me that we lost, I was just laughing so hard at the waves of planes. The only way this could have been better would have been me in an Atlanta.
I think it's usually players trying to get my attention. It has the distinct downside that your concealment blooms, so if you're on a BB on a small map, I can certainly not recommend doing it. Just use the chat commands :) IDK if there's another etiquette to this, but that's my take.
After WW1 America got everyone to sign treaties on the maximum size of different types of naval vessels in an effort to prevent the kind of naval arms race we saw between Imperial Germany and Great Britain before the war. It didn’t really work and it lead to a lot of “glass cannon” kinds of ships being built and when WW2 broke out, destroyed.
Armament modification is absolutely useless (the one module I actually tried for testing, the results were poor) steering, concealment and speed are the best choices in my opinion
I didn't like this ship at first but now that its got all the upgrades ive been absolutely destroying everything, gotten 70k+ damage more than a few times. Definitely a great ship against destroyer and aircraft carrier. Definitely not going to win against battleships 😂 i still try sometimes though.
When you're playing mostly randoms, and land in a non-CV battle, the AA setup means you're at a disadvantage. For me, New Orleans is the first ship that starts you down the playstyle for this line going forward - bow-in, stick to islands, learn to use AP. She's definitely not the strongest T7 cruiser, but still a decent one imo.
@@FunandGameswithTerry to me, this line with AA setup, its one of the best cruisers. Air superiority and support. decent speed. with torp and good HE/AP. You need not fear anything above you, u can 90% nearly always destroy the entire squad of planes
This is by far my least favorite ship so far. People claiming this ship is better than the Pensacola has me scratching my head and wondering what they are talking about?
Not sure if I’m by myself but I LOVE the reviews if ships that actually existed and hearing the history. Keep it up!

@@FunandGameswithTerry absolutely...the only thing more dangerous than a good player in a Des Moines...is a bot Des Moines!!😂🤣😂
New Orleans surviving the loss of her bow & A turret illustrates use of premium repair boosters...

Saipan and double Ise. Were you having night sweats because talk about nightmares personified. That is absolutely BRUTAL.
I found it hilarious, in a "I see what you did there" kind of way.

Kinkaid is better suited for the light cruiser line. He really shines there
So instead of saying she went back to Australia, we should say she backed to Australia.
Well, it's "Down Under", things are backwards here ;)
😳 👏
Thanks!

A div in tier7, and worse with Saipan and double Ise. They really didn't want to lose the match for those juicy stats, did they?
That was a pretty wicked plan they had there...
Those are the kinds of games you know you’re going to lose going in.

Terry. Sometimes when you first move out there sometimes will be a teammate firing at you. It happened to you in your Skane video. What is that about?

The treaty you talk about. Which treaty? What are the Naval treaties? If you could make a history lesson...😁

Oooh, I'd love that. Naval treaty history, but based on Warships Blitz.

Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition was a popular WWI American battle hym if you will
Yep, based on Forgy's phrase, see www.history.navy.mil/our-collections/photography/numerical-list-of-images/nara-series/misc-series/208-N-5203.html

Terry makw a video on östeogotland
oh Terry you haven't seen what I faced. 2 kagas and 2 Ise, you know what happens right?
don't think I've seen double CV on the enemy team, but I could imagine via division, maybe? Either way, oh dear. Big nope.
For this line, i progress with anti air setup. This ship performed quite poorly compared to its immediate predecessor and successor.

I have both and new Orleans absolutely destroys the Pensacola. If anything just because it has a lot more hit points
Still one of my favorite tech tree ships
