I Fed a Pigeon To My Fire Ant Colony

- My massive and ravenous fire ant colony, named the Crimson Knights, have grown so big now that they've already begun attempting to escape their volcanic island paludarium ant farm setup (Volcania). So, to help keep the fire ants well fed and amply distracted, I decided to give them a dead emerald dove, a type of tropical pigeon, that I had been saving until the ant colony was ready to have it. With it being Canadian Thanksgiving soon, I felt now was the best time to give them the bird. But I couldn't believe what secret plans the fire ants had up their sleeve the whole time. Hope you enjoy this week's episode. Ant love forever! This video was shot in 4K Ultra HD resolution.

I actually have seen local pigeons and doves with similar wounds on their throats and chests, that’s the sign that they were attacked by another bird like a hawk or falcon. Surprisingly enough they can typically survive the encounters provided that it’s not too deep of a gash , doves and pigeons are very resilient.
I just found this channel recently. It's quickly becoming a favorite of mine.
First year as an ant keeper and I just fed my lil pavement ants their first cricket head! Super satisfying to see your girls thrive and expand!
You should leave the pidgeon skull in there, along with the skull of every other big animal you might feed them in the future, as some kind of trophy
You're not weird, every single person reading this at least in the states has a fridge or freezer (unless homeless or something) as right now my freezer is full of dead stuff.
Chicken breasts, pork loin, sausage, hamburger etc.
Also potatoes (they're not growing anymore so are "dead") in the fridge, eggs (they're dead too) all kinds of dead stuff. Too much to count, a fridge is like a corpse or cadaver storage unit.
You're supposed to keep dead things in there. If not, _then_ it would be weird.

Wow this amazing antsCanada I have been watching your videos for YEARS I’m pretty sure the first video I saw of yours was when you put pitcher plants in your ant colony to reduce there numbers. And now you have an entire building of ants and land for ants you have come so far and never failed to teach us and entertain us.
We’d love to know what happened with the teaser you left previously about them producing winged ants to spread new colonies. And what ever happened to the ant riding face huggers?! We never found out what species they were, if they were just passengers or some form of parasite.
I've been thinking about this too. Maybe it wasn't as big a deal as he thought so there's no full video?
o maybe its still in production
Rip to the pidgeon 😢
"This lucky package will be digested by freaking fire ants"
I love how he treats all his fire ant colonies like real Lava
They practically are lava tbh
didnt miss today, pretty cool! Never expected pigeons, thought it would be something like a feeding montage.
This also gave me an idea, what if you made a feeding montage type of video, that is just watching the ants eat live(like streaming videos of them eating, this could also mean that you can have multiple cameras).
I’ll be honest, there really was quite a few surprises in this video, I don’t blame people for thinking it’s both disgusting and surprising!
As for an idea of a Halloween feast for the fire ants, or maybe even the marauder ants, I suggest 2 or 3 mice covered in both honey and jelly. That would surely be a great idea! Also, you know how ants can’t see the color red? Well to make the ants be able to eat the jelly I suggest giving them orange or black jelly that of course have different flavors, if you ever have them that is… I hope you do though… I’m not sure what flavors of jelly you have. 😅🫤
Side note: If anyone is reading this comment my goal is to get 150 likes because why not! 😉🤞
I randomly met a fellow AC family member today. I was waiting in a medical facility's waiting room when I heard a familiar voice from an audio device at the reception desk. The voice while familiar didn't click until I heard that voice say "Crimson Knights."
Haha! Awesome! AC Family Unite!

I can’t wait for the cow video I’ve worked with them all 14 years of my life but to see how long it takes ants to devour them would be cool with a intro similar to this coming up “welcome AC family in this video we will be giving my fire ant colony the crimson knights a treat which is a cow carcass donated by my neighbor, the cow died of natural causes and did not suffer any pain during death so rest well my friend”
lol
I just watched the one with the eyeballs, technically its beef 😅
I think it will take about 100 hours for them to finish it.
edit- close enough
can I get likes for absolutely no reason
Sure
My father was also "a bit weird" i used to open our freezer and find a bag full of gofer snake on the shelf below the eggos he didnt feed them to anything tho he'd just stuff them and donate them to the wildlife museum

That was pretty amazing, it is not really that gross. I've never seen that pigeon before, I learned some new things.
Mmmmm, decomposition at its finest as soon as you flipped that bird over. Yum.
🤮🤮🤮🤮
@@AntsCanadaA lot people think thats the end, but just like how the stars have an end to their lives, what's left over always get recycled into something else. Everything will always be recycled into something else. It's all just energy in one form or another, which can neither be created nor destroyed, just transformed. In this case: dead bird = food for other creatures.
Well.. You can definitely eat a pigeon.. But not on that condition.
Oh yes, thanks for reminding me, it is pigeon hunting season where I live.
You hunt pigeons?!!! 😲😲😲😲
@@AntsCanada oh yeah, legal hunting actually helps species in the danger list as it allows to cull the population so endangered species can have more food and space versus the invading species. Money that the government (local and federal) gets through taxes selling hunting gear and licenses goes to projects in protection of the environment (example the Puerto Rico parrot). There are some doves to not hunt and doing so may incur in fines of a few thousand dollars.
Good day AntsCanada. I always enjoy your videos and it's amazing to see how the ants go on with their lives and reveal their unique behaviors. I'm from South Africa and have an idea of what you can do to prevent escapes. We have an insecticide called Fendona 6 SC, which we sprayed around our door and window frames. Any incest that walks over that barrier dies within minutes. 9 months was passed since my father sprayed it and the barrier was still active enough to kill a scorpion before it got into our house. We also don't have any ants crossing that area where we applied the Fendona.
But feel free to investigate more about this insecticide and if you are able to find it in your stores. Hopefully it will prevent future ant escapes and prevent unwanted ants to enter.
Everyonce in awhile we get a dead quail but don't exactly want to eat it, I could maybe ship them to ya if you're interested. Larger jumbo quail.
I've been watching all of these all of Canada's videos for over 30 years He's great
you know when he brings the birds out its going to be a banger of a video!
Loved this video like every other. Your videos are very unique, and that’s what I enjoy about them. Great job!
Thanks gldor watching #AntLoveForever
Love it!!!! So cool so see a director to get a better understanding how the story can be elevated with visuals and the process of working with the actors
wtf...
5:27 this guy emotes so well i could see his shocked face from behind.
I just thought that maybe the next thing you could feed one of your ant colonies could be some regional fish? As in those native to the ants' area in question, just in case a type of fish might be unhealthy to a species of a different location; we wouldn't want to risk doing that to them. I think it would be pretty interesting to see how they might like some fish meat. 👍
Your formicariums are sooooo epic, how do you even make them?
Money
Honestly, I think they should take about two weeks
Don't like 1080p scaled to 4k. Would love if you move to a Better sensor. That would be the next level you need. Yes I know storage will end of being the issue.
I would like to know how you plan to move this colony if it were necesary. It wouldnt be easy to take out the queen from the volcano if the colony get sick or you just need to move them out because a problem in the terrarium
Edit: well, i guess my question was sort of answered
Imma guess a week or so
Feeding large portions of protein like this explodes the brood amount. I’d balance proteins and sugars. Otherwise this colony is going to be so large just keeping it in check is going to be a 24/7 mission.
I have to admit, you got really got at leaving cliff hangers ever since the video you made about your Carebara diversa when they myseriously disappeared, then followed up with your fire ants disappearing as well (TWICE) and now being the third time to leave all of our minds waiting to find out what happens next
