    On today's Trews: Loan sharks, freedom of the press, the rise of UKIP, taxing billionaires and more.
    I give you the true news so you don't have to invest any money in buying newspapers that charge you for the privilege of keeping your consciousness imprisoned in a tiny box of ignorance and lies.

    Russell Brand, getting Alistair on is nothing short of amazing. People may not like him, but to me this shows just how much of an impact you are making.
    Also whatever you think of him, speaking to him face to face is better then just hating on him. Nothing gets done when all you do is hate.

      Fabooka De Stait Bro you're so angry and hateful. I'm sure you have your reasons to be, and as far as i can see you're in for justice for tyranny and extended ego but this aint about stringing people up! All these people have got to be dealt with peacefully, with love and patience, not fear and violence.

    • @ATestamentToNothing
      @ATestamentToNothing 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry mate, didn't mean to upset you. Are you saying that you think Russell Brand is secretly misleading the people? I've heard someone else say this - what are your reasons for this belief? Have you had some personal involvement with the wars in the middle east? I feel like my eyes are quite open, I try to be as objective as possible (if there is such a thing).

    • @ATestamentToNothing
      @ATestamentToNothing 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well you seem pretty upset to me. I wish I had more time to go through all of the points, fanciful generalizations and poetic insults you've made based on the 2 paragraphs of text I wrote, but I don't have the time nor the energy, I'm sorry.
      I would say though, that if you're hoping to do something positive, then writing small essays mainly formulated with aggressive prose and swearing to people that probably take a similar view to the atrocities you're talking about, is not really the solution to the problems you see.
      Anyway, hope you get to where you're going in one piece. I know I certainly will.
      P.s. This was a question, not an assumption: "Are you saying that you think Russell Brand is secretly misleading the people?"

    Danzoil, JPark, and others thank you so very much for speaking out against the discriminating nature of islamophobia. As a Muslim I am grateful that there are people like you with their eyes open to the ignorance, as the hatred grows stronger by the west's media representation of Islam. :)

    Dear Russell,
    I love the Trews. It fills me with peace and hope for the future and in fact my life's trajectory has coincided with yours to grant me the realisation of the freedom I always had and to really live my life outside of the narrow structures created by society.
    One quick thing though mate - do you reckon you could start doin an UNCUT version of the Trews alongside a more digestible version for people with less time/patience because I'm really interested in what goes on between the cuts and I think it's only fair, since you're doing true news, that we should get to see everything as it is, even if you accidentally spit a little bit while you're talking or say something daft - I want to see everything as it is, not sculpted and fiddled with before I get to see it as that's not really real. What do we reckon??

    I really enjoyed this trews, its good to have a diverse selection of guests and talk with people from a variety of backgrounds who have experienced the issues discussed from different perspectives. Simply vilifying people in suits like a fair few of the people in these comments are doing is not progressive at all, most people are actually quite nice and do genuinely want to make a positive change to the world, its just people become a product of their environment and can sometimes become grounded in unhealthy ideas.

    Russell, I wanted to share this with you. I read a novel a few years ago. I can't remember the title or author, but the plot has always stuck with me.
    It was set in some obscure country who were campaigning for independence from a larger country. A prominent member of the campaign for independence was murdered and it was made to look like suicide. This allowed the campaign for independence to hold 'commemorative' events for the person and it boosted the campaign, brought people together and created a rallying point, thereby helping the independence campaign win.
    This was years ago I read this novel. I wish I could remember the title or author. The plot just came back into my mind tonight and I wanted to share it with everyone.

  • @realest_
    @realest_ 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The act of one extremist is strongly focused upon by media and tend to discount the terrorising acts of the non- Muslims by labelling them with “mentally ill” or “murderer.” The headlines when the articles are about Islam are very attacking and aggressive whereas some of the greatest criminals are vaguely picked on regarding their ‘non-Muslim’ status. Islamaphobia has become a huge issue in society to the point that people bash and terrorise Islam as well as the burning of the Holy Scriptures. This is extremely uncivilised.

    Muslim's themselves encourage Islamaphobia with their actions. I never had an opinion either way until i experienced how judgemental and hate-filled they are (sorry, can be) when i travelled in a Muslim country. I wholeheartedly agree that racism is the ugly side of humanity Russell, i just think you have far more work to do in Muslim countries to get them on board with that philosophy. Just the facts as i experienced them first-hand. Sad, but unfortunately true mate.

    what we have here is a turning of the tide... people still remember so much that was done to them, and is still being done to them... this fight as Russell puts it is not really amongst the people, but was created by the elites who really run everything. Divide and conquer, arguments for or against any culture or religion will not solve the problem, acceptance of our differences will... That is the message I got, simple really not so philosophical... acceptance, you can be straight, gay, black, white, fat, skinny. tall, short (going back into primary school years of when we did opposites... but you get the gist!) as long as you treat people with kindness and respect, you will get the same... there would be times when someone is out of sync with your energy, they may be having a shitty day, and step on your toes, and be a dick about it, cause that is where their head is at that point, but to respond with equal or more anger will only fuel that person's rage... sometimes we just don't want to see below the surface because we just don't fucking want to...

    • @5amo
      @5amo 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I wouldn't say people are blind to it, there's just not much the average person can do to influence the coverage of a national media outlet.
      I also think Alastair Campbell knows exactly what the consequences of emotive, attention seeking headlines are.
      Ironically, his answer of 'Comes perilously close to fuelling it' could be perceived as supporting his idea that Nigel Farages popularity is due to "the way he speaks his mind in the way that he does". It was an answer so typical of a politician, in that he is agreeing with what Russell is implying without actually saying so (perhaps in fear of becoming an emotive, attention seeking headline on a tabloid newspaper???).

    The equal distribution of wealth is the most unfair system. There is no reward for hard work people can sit and do nothing and get the same as someone who works all day.
    Also, people will just leave if you tried to introduce it like they did in the 70s when the tax rate was over 90%.
    I agree that there should be a way to voluntarily pay more tax, though

    • @mrbreckles
      @mrbreckles 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why not have a system where you don't sort of 'own' anything? Yeah you furnish your house and decorate. But everything else is done on a loan system. Everything you can think of. But it's manufactured and loaned at a rate of production that is sustainable and it allows everybody access to anything.
      Example you want to watch a movie at home with a few friends. You can go pick up a projector and screen for the weekend. It would encourage people to use things when they really want or need to and to not be attached to possessions. Obviously this needs to be worked out properly. Large scale numbers I can't provide but surely there's something there to work with?

    • @mrbreckles
      @mrbreckles 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Plus it would mean there would be no need for the production of items that are made to last a couple of years if you're lucky, that we see a lot of now. Things would be what would be considered top spec. Why make thousands of lower spec when you can make hundreds of top spec that everybody can enjoy?

    • @johnbenton4488
      @johnbenton4488 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not fiddling would be a good start. But in order to do this you need lots of money in the first place. Ask the boss of HMRC how it's done, for he does it. A lot. As do most 'professional footballers' and 'entertainers'.

    • @dabe4092
      @dabe4092 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is no reward for hard work right now. An honest hard days work in the building trade pays just enough to live on. Warehouse work is often zero hours contracts, same with cleaning. Supermarkets get a lot of workers gratis from the dole, ditto for a lot of office work. Face it ; England is becoming a difficult country in which to make a good, or even decent living. Don't buy into the lie that cutting welfare is somehow going to help. and don't have such low expectations that this is the best that we can do.
      In my opinion the minimum wage should be raised. It is far higher in Australia for instance, and the quality of life is far better as a result.

    • @wozzywick
      @wozzywick 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Da Be I wasn't referring to now, I was referring to the communist system. Everyone has the same level of wealth, so if you chose not to work you would have the same wealth as someone who dedicated their life to working

      I don't think I'm a rebel. I just think I'm smarter and more realistic by disbelieving in religious ideas than following some diety whose existence hasn't been proven.
      Also, I find agnostics such as yourself to be total cop out merchants because you think a "third option" exists. Well, you continue to think agnosticism is a third option since you lot don't understand its definition and proper usage.
      Hint: The word is a modifier, you idiot. Atheism and theism deals with matters of religious belief.

Having to admit to himself that the damage he and his counterpart's are doing to society is wrong, not only for the country but for humanity in general. Would be interesting to see a video where you explain why you choose the guests you do. Also-would have loved to see the parts that were cut from this Trews-there's a lot of editing going on-at his behest? did he agree to go on only if he had some editorial say in how he was presented? wouldn't surprise me given who he is and what his job was for Blair. I know you're kind hearted and probably want to see the good in everyone but beware of being manipulated by people like him Russell-it's their job to make anyone "seem like a nice man".

    93 Do what thou Wilt. This episode of the Trews was like watching Russell try to draw blood from a stone. Alastair Campbell contributed nothing to this discussion, he just swerved and dodged Russell's questions so he needn't give a straightforward answer on anything! Poor editor, must have been a very hard episode to cut! Alastair Campbell aside, I think it's great that Russell is interviewing key players in the political web. Would love to see Russell appear on BBC's Question time and really put it to the politicians!!! Love is the Law 93s

    I highly doubt russell checks his TH-cam comments but if you do this is one of my favourites so far.
    I don't leave TH-cam comments but this time I feel I have to.
    I have watched you telling the nation things I have thought years ago, and I felt I had to comment purely after reading the previous comments on nearly every video.
    If your the kind of person that would spend your time watching and seeking out a video like this, I don't understand how you can misinterpret the values and social criticism shown to you.
    You simply prove that many people are not ready for the 'trews'.
    Just re watch the videos, do some wider reading and research before you comment again.
    (This is not to read as an attacking comment. The Internet loses my voice)

    I love the Trews but I must say I was in a state of shock for the first minute of this episode. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I totally understand the point of getting an 'insider's view' on media manipulation but Alistair Campbell, really? He isn't just some idiot journalist; he played a key role in attempting to publicly justify and control the dissemination of information regarding an illegal war and political corruption, including the expenses scandal, against the best interests of the citizens of this country and those affected by Blair's policies abroad. I'm amazed that Russell can bear to be in his presence and give him a platform. Sorry to trivialise but it is rather like Yoda inviting Darth Vadar round for a casual chat about the workings of the Death Star (I'm not a Star Wars fan but I know enough about it to make that analogy!)!
    I hope that Russell was making an ironic point by inviting Campbell on the Trews. The episode certainly did show Campbell to be the slime ball we know him to be but it still makes me feel queasy. No more guests of his sort please Russell.

    Russell, it is important to know that kosher and halal are basically the same thing. In fact Muslims are free to consume meat from kosher butchers. Thanks to the negative, antagonistic manner in which halal is described, it should just be erased and replaced with kosher to attract support from Christians.

  • @Yourismouter
    @Yourismouter 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Russell Brand what are you doing with Alastair Campbell, Blair propagandist, the reason we have no serious choices to vote for, and an accomplice to a war criminal i.e. Blair, who you've described as a war criminal in your trews on the hilcot report. I say this with respect to you because I'm a huge admirer of you, I find your a fine stand up comedian and you speak the truth which the britsh press would rather be suppressed and I love your Messiah Complex show, one of the finest british stand up performances I've ever seen.. but honestly the man your sitting with is the leading reason why all the political parties are the same, he made labor from a moderate socialist party to a neo-liberal/centre-right party, he openly called himself and his allies spindoctors, and helped Blair get into power. he and his entourage are responsible with their allies in the Murdoch press and non-Murdoch press in making us islamaphobes amongst all the issues your discussing with him. you want to talk about issues of freedom of the press it was New Labor that gave more media concentration power to Murdoch, Blair went to visit Murdoch personally to assure him he was not lefty and infact a neo-liberal/conservative to which The Sun and all of the Murdoch press endorsed Blair. New Labor put the nail in the coffin for democracy and ending a socialist,progessive,adversarial movement in the UK. New Labor are just as if not more Orwellian,market fundamentalist, Neo-Dickesian as the Tory, pursued a colonial foreign policy, continued the Corporatocracy of the Thatcher years, as well are an even bigger gap between rich and poor and continuing to "modernize" the NHS not to mention expanding the law and order state with the Drug War as a front for a prison industrial complex. And the monstrous sanctions on Iraq plus the bombing and later the War with shock and awe and systematic war crimes? helloooooo! Alistair Campbell was Blair's Karl Rover for all this. honestly Mr.Brand, in your Trews on the Hilcot Report suppression and your criticisms of the war criminal Blair, you discussed his rise to power and celebrities vindicating him like your friend Noel Gallagher you had underneath the clip "Noel what were you thinking" well I respectfully have to ask "what are you thinking being in the same room as Campbell". Don't be like Letterman and Leno who do monoluges against Bush, and Letterman who puts Fox News Bill O'Reilly into account during 4 appearances, only later to invite war criminal Donald Rumsfeld and having a good laugh with him.you say you want a revolution well if you go rubbing shoulders with Alastair Campbell, you ain't gonna make it with anyone anyhow.

    But fair play to him for doing this.

    • @JoelJoel321
      @JoelJoel321 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      With respect, I fear you yourself may have bought into the lie about the "45 minute lie". The forty-five minute claim was taken up by some of the media on the day the "dodgy dossier" was released in September 2003 (6 months prior to the war); but *not* referred to in the media afterwards, or by Blair himself, including not by Blair in the Parliamentary debate, up to the start of military action. Of 40,000 Parliamentary questions between September 02 and March 03 a grand total of *two* were about the forty five minute claim, and of 5000 oral questions not one mentioned it. It is, for this reason, ludicrous to suggest that we went to war because of that claim.
      I challenge you to find Blair making that claim anywhere in print or orally outside the dossier.
      This is a convenient ex post facto media spin on Iraq. I know you won't be persuaded. The lens of history has composed a different narrative for the war and Mr Blair and Mr Campbell. But hey ho.

    • @stevendurrant1724
      @stevendurrant1724 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      it was Campbell who turned possibility into certainty, or "question marks into exclamation marks". I accept that the rest of the media went along for the ride.

    • @JoelJoel321
      @JoelJoel321 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      The point that I am making is that the media didn't go along for the ride, in respect of 45 minutes. It wasn't discussed in the media in the run up to war. It was only after the war that the media picked up on this, and created the narrative that it has been a big factor in the build up. It simply was not.
      WMD generally, yes. But not the 45 minute claim.
