Hey, I just want to ask you a question as a beginner xaphoon player. For some reason my xaphoon(plastic) is off key especially in the lower notes, so when I play a low C it plays a low D or Db. I am using a standard tenor sax reed like the internet told me but it seems to be way bigger then the ones that came with my xaphoon, please help me out here.
Hey! Im not familiar with the plastic ones. Maybe the problem is the instrument but thats hard to tell for me now. I have a bamboo one from maui xaphoon. I use tenor sax reeds for the C one. Most of the time, the lower you play, the less pressure you have to give on the reed and the less air you have to blow into the instrument. If you give too much pressure the note will be higher than a C. hope that helps.
Release the reed pressure from your lip. Try this, blow a continuous note, increase your lip pressure (note goes up), decrease your lip pressure (note goes down). I'm using a Bari S plastic reed on a plastic xaphoon.
as always... the best Xaphoon music on YT
Thanks so much!
