If Kraft doesn’t allow Vrabel to bring in his people, his coaches or allow him to construct the team according to his vision and program, Vrabel won’t take the job period. Kraft could literally screw this opportunity to hire Vrabel if he chooses Wolf over Vrabel. If another team offers Vrabel more money and the keys to the kingdom he’s gone so Kraft better not let Vrabel leave the building without a contract or he ends up signing elsewhere.
@ @ Vrabel won the NFL's Coach of the Year award in 2021 and had 4 winning seasons while having Ryan Tannehill as his QB that in itself is a massive achievement including an AFC championship appearance. Ryan Tannehill SUCKED as a QB yet Vrabel was able to coach them to the AFC South championships in 2020 and 2021, and the Titans earned the No. 1 seed in the AFC in 2021. Titans made a change at general manager and everything went to crap and a feud between the GM and HC occurred. Titians have been irrelevant since Vrabel was fired and the GM was just fired this year. Who’s crazy for not wanting Vrabel as their HC? Maye and Vrabel could turn into a championship. Who would you hire?
Albert Breer give me a break, they are following the rules. The team can hire who they want and when they want. They know who they want. There are not many options.
Robert Kraft knew he wanted Bill Belichick too. He can get single minded when he sees his guy. I can't find fault with that. He's already shown extreme loyalty to Jerod Mayo by not hiring Mike Vrabel last off season because he gave his word to Mayo. I think Breer is showing a bit of Patriots hate here even after 4 solid years of being a stumbling and uncompetitive team, so go pound sand Breer!
Don't worry about Breer. He's playing the PC game. He's just trying to impress mainstream media outlets about how far he's willing to go for it. Thing is, the media is losing money left and right and that is something they don't really care about right now. They are just trying to survive mostly by continual cost cutting. That's why Breer is having so much trouble and it isn't going to change.
I guess I'm the only one that wants Ben Johnson over Vrabel. Yeah I know Vrabel has HC experience and I don't care. He is another BB defensive minded hard azz coach no one wants to play for. I'm tired of defensive minded coaches!! Give me a OC that has proven he can run a successful offense and get me a great defensive coordinator. Make the OC (Ben) the HC / offensive coordinator with Wolf running finance and helping get the players Ben wants. Basically I would run the team like they did when they had Bill Parcels, BB and Scott Pioli.
I believe your read on Vrabel is wrong. I would be interested in Johnson though. Since it is unknown how he would be as a head coach, Kraft will probably be more comfortable going with the guy he already knows since that has usually been his history.
Cutting the line? You mean being aggressive to get the guy you want? Sounds like your just NOT being the Jets or Bears or the other dysfunctional organizations

But we know he can identify good OCs, can elevate quarterbacks, can build tough defenses, and can install a winning culture. No one else on the market has that range of skills as a known quality. Total BS rule . Created out of left wing ideology. Just interview who you want and hire who you want regardless of a persons skin color. It doesn’t matter. What matters is who is felt in the opinion of the owner of any business the most qualified person for the job. It’s not rocket science
It's borderline illegal. It's probably ok as it is, but even 1 inch further and it would open up organizations to lawsuits that the Supreme Court has made very clear that the organization would lose. Breer is basically pushing for illegal, unconstitutional methods. I doubt the tool even knows it.
Breer's take is downright bizarre. If they fired Mayo to hire Vrabel, that's the plan. What line are the Patriots cutting? This isn't a draft. Vrabel is a free agent. He can sign with whoever he wants whenever he wants.
@@itsjp89 Because that's what you always say. Do you know what the word PR means? PR doesn't always equal the truth. Brady once said that 95% of his public comments were not the truth. I hope that doesn't spoil your concept of reality too much.
It’s favoritism this is why we have the Rooney rule. I’ve said this many times white coaches if they are close with the owner they have an advantage over other candidates. How is this remotely fair to other candidates like African Americans who have the same qualifications as white coaches.
Breer, stop it. What gives you the right to judge the seriousness of the patriots coaching search? If the rule is designed to get black people in front of owners..well, it did. I have absolutely no issue with the patriots being efficient with their time, or interviewing coordinators and using that to check the nfl's DEI boxes.
I don’t get it. What’s the problem? The rule forces this. Otherwise they go directly to the dude they want. What’s the alternative approach to getting vrable or johnson?
Funny that Bert is all of a sudden clutching his pearls so hard and the most valiant defender of the Rooney Rule when he had a disaster tweet about it last year. Clearly an overcorrection by him
By adhering to a rule? It's not Kraft's fault they HAVE to go through this process to get the guy they know they want. The whole rule is absurd. I understand the necessity for a rule like this, but it's not implemented well.
I highly doubt it is necessary at this point. I really don't believe today there are a bunch of owners that don't think a "diverse" candidate can be a head coach. Is Breer saying that he believes Kraft feels "diverse" people will be worse coaches? If not then why is he angry. The only logical reason for him to be angry is if he believes the Krafts are racists.
I understand there are good reasons for the Rooney rule but the Patriots seem to be in a difficult spot. I'm also not sure what line Breer is referring to. Nothing is preventing other teams from doing the same thing the Patriots are doing. His other take, that going through the full process of interviewing as many candidates as possible has a clear benefit, isn't fleshed out. Going through the full process could very easily cost your team it's preferred candidate, especially in this particular case. We all assume that candidate is Vrabel who just went a year (basically) out of football. I'm sure he doesn't want to take any chance of missing out on another year of being a head coach. What if there are only 2 teams that like him that he finds acceptable? Should he wait those two teams out? What if one decides on Ben Johnson instead of him? Then he's lost all his leverage (contact wise, front office staffing and team structure wise). Why should he take that chance? The NFL is a very big business now. Owners that want to insure they get their top choice have to be aggressive. I get the Rooney rule isn't being followed as intended but it does appear the Patriots are acting within the written rules.
Dear Albert, it is not for you to say how any team ought to run their hiring process. It is New England's process to run. New England met the Rooney Rule requirements. If they are comfortable with their level of due diligence on Vrabel, why waste time interviewing other candidates? When you say “they are not subject to the rules”, what rules are you referring to? If Vrabel is in fact who the Krafts want, why not try to close the deal on Thursday? Why would the Krafts ever want Vrabel to meet with and potentially be persuaded to join another team? The minute you allow another team to influence your process, the probability of you closing your deal declines.
Every other HC needy team has the exact same options as the Pats. Whether or not they use a similar strategy as the Pats have is their business. You can't fault the Pats if they choose a different mthod.
Anyone suggesting jumping thru hoops is suggesting something that is illegal. The Supreme Court has made it clear. If they jumped thru hoops for certain candidates based on race then they would open themselves up for a lawsuit that they would lose. Companies all across the country are dropping dei programs right now because of this. Affirmative action itself is actually unconstitutional so you have to be very careful and cannot push it too far. Granting on interview is probably ok, but anything more and you could be in big trouble.
I understand Breer's frustration. He is wrong about skirting the rules, but this whole Browns letting Vrabel out of his deal 4 days before the season ends thing is not fair to other coaches. The hiring rules are the worst for those coaches who make the playoffs. A free agent coach has a better chance of getting hired than anybody who completed the season with his team. Also, if you don't interview Weaver or Flores, it is cutting the line in terms of the Rooney Rule, those coaches don't get a chance to get the job, because you conducted the sham interviews with Leftwich and Hamilton. Breer is also right about the state of the franchise.
Personally, if I was already set on a guy or two as HC, I would interview no less than four black coaches. And I would NOT jam them in instantly and even on the same day or consecutively. I get that Kraft probably wants to fast forward through the process to nab Vrabel before someone else does, but maybe there's a better balanced approach here.
What you're are suggesting is incredibly stupid. You would use a different sham policy for what purpose? So Breer won't get angry? Most people in the real world hate people like Breer. He's worthless. Having losers like him against you is more of a badge of honor. Most of the country despises these jerks that work in mainstream media.
Vrabel is going to go where he wants no matter what. What’s going to suck if Vrabel goes to the Raiders and Johnson says I was your second pick I’m not coming there now.
You'll have to forgive Bert today. I think he's having a Disney, Freaky Friday with his high school teen daughter. Life's so unfair! This isn't what we learned in social justice class!
It sounds great, ideally you would like them to go thru a lengthy interview process but what happens if Mike Vrabel says (to the Patriots) that he needs an answer this week because he has other suitors? Do you just say "OK well we have to go thru our process, so good luck to you"? They are in a tough spot, it's probably not ideal but if Vrabel is who they want then why risk him being out in the market long enough for another team to snatch him up?
because apparently wanting someone who isnt diverse is racist. Thats the only thing i could conclude from these comments. You go through a sham process, you are racist. You dont go through the process, you are racist. So either make a diverse hire (even though thats not who you want as a conadidate) or you are racist.
"They're cutting the line." Huh? That's a load of crap. Did they satisfy the rules? Yes. K, that's all set. If Vrabel is their guy, and he's sought after, then they need to do what they have to to get him. There's nothing wrong with what the Patriots are doing in their best interests. The only issue would be, is Vrabel REALLY THE guy? We won't know until, if they hire him, 5 or so years from now.
Breer trying to show how woke he is when woke has died a painful death. He really is a clueless chump. No wonder he never makes any money, the guy is so desperate for work.
It's worse than that, but Breer doesn't know anything. Companies are dropping dei because the Supreme Court has made it clear that they are largely unconstitutional and these companies will lose any lawsuits brought against them. The Rooney rule is probably unconstitutional, but as long as it doesn't go far than the teams will probably be ok. If it were pushed further as Breer seems to suggest, than NFL teams will lose any lawsuit brought against them if someone feels they were wronged by it. The NFL itself would be sued over this Rooney rule and the Supreme Court has made it clear which side will win. For the NFL, the lawsuits would be in the billions. The Breers of the world are just clueless idiots.
Leftwich and Hamilton are just box checkers. If I was an owner and I knew 100% who I wanted I would just skip all the steps and pay the Rooney rule fine
lol this is absurd. They want 2 top candidates just like everyone else. But there is an imposed rule that must be followed. They have these empty interviews to satisfy the rules, but they are racist for not wanting these candidates even though they are forced to interview them to get to the people they actually want for the job. Your solution is to completely interview no diverse coaches. As if people like you wouldnt then call them racist for that too. So unless the patriots hire a black coach, like they did last time, they are racist no matter what they do since the top two candidates for them (and every other team looking) happen to be white.
Says they’ll be lucky to land a coordinator role, and yet these interviews may help them do just that if the coach likes the idea of them. They didn’t skip the process, it’s just inevitable who they are hiring regardless of the persons race. Stop making it something it isn’t.

They followed the rules. Point blank.
Vrabel sucked at headcoach yet all you people want him hired, like he's vince lombardi, you people are truly nuts.
@@itsjp89 Mayo sucked, Vrabel overall did a good job. If you're going to troll, at least put some effort in it.
Get a grip Breer
Someone tell Bert that the rule is a dumb one and is racist. They followed the dumb albeit racist rule... So get over it.😊 #GoPats!
Just tell me Kraft isn't looking in the Sea of Gallilea for the next head coach.
Breer is def a raiders fan lol. Butt hurt vrabel is coming to the pats.
Vrabel a coach who sucked.
Get off your soap box breer.
I don’t understand why breer is upset . Kraft is following the rules
He's just playing the media PC game. He's so upset because minorities aren't being treated properly. Some call it virtue signaling. He thinks it could help his career in the media. That media is losing money left and right so it won't make a difference. Breer probably doesn't understand that because he's not knowledgeable about things.
What do you mean "without jumping through the hoops"? This is literally them jumping through the hoops...
How can you say Vrabel is the best option out of all of the coaches available and then wine about not doing a search if you have the chance to get him now? Usually like Breer but he is wrong. What If you do the search for extra “knowledge” and he goes somewhere else…
Then you find someone else. He is not prime Belichick. You don't know that Vrabel is the best option, if you conduct a close-minded search.
I usually hate Breer, maybe you just hadn't noticed what a slimy bs artist he is. He might not look so bad when standing next to aholes like Felger, but he's still pretty bad.
Vrabel has a history as a former Patriots great player, as well as being a successful NFL Head Coach. Gimme a break to the clueless talking heads!!!!
Vrabel is a good coach but way too many people are acting like he's Vince Lombardi
I agree I’ll take him . But rather have Johnson. Fans are so hung up on him playing for the Patriots
@@Gbird71that’s not it, though. His background as a player is maybe the least advantageous part of his resume. It’s that way back when he was with Tennessee we were saying he was the best coach to come out of New England DESPITE not being part of Bill’s coaching tree. Whether he’s a great coach, who knows. But we know he can identify good OCs, can elevate quarterbacks, can build tough defenses, and can install a winning culture. No one else on the market has that range of skills as a known quality. That’s what makes him so appealing.
@@cameronburson1397 Disagree on the OC and QB. He had Henry as his rb. They was also 9-7 before he took over.I'm not saying he is awful but people act like he won 3 Superbowls
@ I mean he turned Tannehill into a plus starter for a couple years after his ignominious stint in Miami and hired Matt LaFleur as his first OC then later Arthur Smith. You might say the latter led to the former, but if it weren’t for those two getting poached I think he’d still be rolling in Tennessee.
@@cameronburson1397 The best coach to come out of New England is pretty low bar...
The Rooney rule is bogus anyways.
And who are you to make assessments? And opinions vary 💯
Breer's take is downright bizarre. If they fired Mayo to hire Vrabel, that's the plan. What line are the Patriots cutting? This isn't a draft. Vrabel is a free agent. He can sign with whoever he wants whenever he wants.
Ok so if they want to hire vrabel why did kraft say they want to interview as many people as possible.
@@itsjp89 Because that's what you always say. Do you know what the word PR means? PR doesn't always equal the truth. Brady once said that 95% of his public comments were not the truth. I hope that doesn't spoil your concept of reality too much.
Please pick up Vrabel, Tee Higgins, Cheetah Hill, 4th pick Best OT in draft, and play Milton alot more please?
They wanted Mayo and put no time into hearing from candidates, they’re doing it again. Bring people in and listen to them!
Hopefully, Vrabel is able. He brings a lot to the table
Spittin
If he gets the job will they give him a new sable or a table, a cable, a label. Will they have him marry Mabel. Who the hell is Mabel?
We need him to get the team stable
Ben Johnson and Drake Maye's NC connection is enticing. I hope i'm wrong. #GoLions
Why do 15 head coach interviews when you already know which guy you wanna hire?
It’s favoritism this is why we have the Rooney rule. I’ve said this many times white coaches if they are close with the owner they have an advantage over other candidates. How is this remotely fair to other candidates like African Americans who have the same qualifications as white coaches.
I’ve not seen Breer this passionate … ever. Weird thing to get passionate about.
Trade the 4th pick for dk metcalf yall can’t draft wr Noo we not doing this again 😂😂
I don’t get it. What’s the problem? The rule forces this. Otherwise they go directly to the dude they want.
What’s the alternative approach to getting vrable or johnson?
Isn't breer the same person that said not to draft maye
Can't believe ppl want Vrabel who beat the Colts, Jags and Texans who stunk every year for a guarenteed 6 wins
A thousand times better than Mayo which is the main thing. Plus he was able to win with a complete loser for a qb, that says something.
Funny that Bert is all of a sudden clutching his pearls so hard and the most valiant defender of the Rooney Rule when he had a disaster tweet about it last year. Clearly an overcorrection by him
He's clearly desperate career wise, but the money in media is drying up so nothing he does will help him. His future is bleak.
Imagine what #1draft pick would do to attract Vrabel... dumbest thing I ever seen, winning the last meaningless game
Phil Perry and Curran n Breer ! Any interest from Patriots in Gruden?
How have they had a problem in that past when they havnt done a process since it was created
Man I must of missed something. Are we CERTAIN this Drake Maye guy is a lock 🤨
Every other HC needy team has the exact same options as the Pats. Whether or not they use a similar strategy as the Pats have is their business. You can't fault the Pats if they choose a different mthod.
Why can’t they hire who they like? No, jump through all these nonsensical hoops!! Good gravy … 😮😮😮
U guys pushed jefraud all year. U guys are all insufferable. U have no moral high ground.. stop beating ur own drum.. no one cares
Thank you!!!!
Breer is also right about the state of the franchise.
theirs only so many guys they could have interviewed at this point, you could just as easily say Rivera with the jets was just a box check
They are not worried about loosing him lol.. we already know he’s coming here SO LETS GET ON WITH IT!!!!
There should be a law that people get paid for using their time to be interviewed
They just "interviewed" two guys off the street.
I agree with Breer. He’s the only one with balls and integrity in this video. The others are Cover their A.
I f'ing despise Breer. If you like him then you are probably a jerk.
I've never liked him so I have no desire to forgive him. He's always been a phony type, nothing worthwhile about him as a human being.
They fired Mayo because they wanted Vrabel. If Vrabel was NOT available, the Patriots would not have fired Mayo.
Is this guy serious
Can Kraft give Vrabel a check for a million and ask him not to take any offers
Patriots already tried a DEI head coach. Why do they need to interview more?
why no B-Flo?
…what’s to stop the other teams from doing the same thing the Patriots are?
I hope Vrabel puts his nose up to Bobby Krafty, and becomes the next Head Coach of Duh Bears.
"They're cutting the line."
Huh? That's a load of crap. Did they satisfy the rules? Yes. K, that's all set. If Vrabel is their guy, and he's sought after, then they need to do what they have to to get him. There's nothing wrong with what the Patriots are doing in their best interests. The only issue would be, is Vrabel REALLY THE guy? We won't know until, if they hire him, 5 or so years from now.
Breer trying to show how woke he is when woke has died a painful death. He really is a clueless chump. No wonder he never makes any money, the guy is so desperate for work.
The NFL is not the public sector.. they can do whatever the hell they want to.
If the Kraft's played by the rules and didn't jump the line, they would not have landed Belichick, let alone Vrabel
ben johnson is not going to interview now?
patriots requested for him to be allowed to interview within the week.
So now we pissed by them interviewing Hamilton and Leftwich but these the same people that wanted Mayo fired and didn’t like how he was hired
Breer sounds like he needs to go work for the raiders holy shit, on paper they are staying within the rule so stfu
Oh get off your high horse Breer.
Leftwich and Hamilton are just box checkers. If I was an owner and I knew 100% who I wanted I would just skip all the steps and pay the Rooney rule fine
Sounds like Boston
lol this is absurd.
That would be a PR mistake and Kraft is a PR guy thru and thru. It would be stupid to not follow the guidelines.
@@davidnewsom2962 Ok racist.
Why is this dude so mad? He came in angry to this conversation
His career is in tatters, media money is drying up. His future is bleak. That's why him and many others in that industry are angry.
Says they’ll be lucky to land a coordinator role, and yet these interviews may help them do just that if the coach likes the idea of them. They didn’t skip the process, it’s just inevitable who they are hiring regardless of the persons race. Stop making it something it isn’t.
