    I wanted to expand on a couple of points. Another reason to use the wire brush and brush from the bottom is so the bristles don’t grab and stretch the hair. Stretching causes the hair to frizz. And about human make up or hair products, these often contain oils which react with and degrade plastic. And another reason to avoid wetting the body besides the mold is that it can leave unsightly water marks. Another tip is to beware of staining from black or red clothing especially inexpensive clothing which is more prone to dye transfer. Another tip is not to leave a hairstyle in for too long or it will permanently crimp the hair. Thanks for another great video.

    Just wanted to add, don't use fabric softener on your doll's hair to detangle it or make ot softer, it really will just add buildup and cause the hair to get dirtier over time if not properly rinsed out.

      I bought a used grace doll that reeks of fabric softener and I can't fix her hair

      One time I was about 8 and me and my friends decided to wash a dolls hair with hand soap and she was losing hair and it was in dreadlocks, so we used fabric softener and it did work, but that was the last resort.

    Great tips! I personally have used a flat iron on many American girl dolls with no issues, but I would definitely not recommend for beginner/ younger collectors.
    Also, a little tip when it comes to curling American girl hair, All of their curls go to the left, this will save a lot of time trying to figure out which way to curl it.

    Dont forget that the doll hospital exists guys!
    You should still be as careful as you can, but if you accidentally ruin tbe hair, or your doll gets silver eye, or needs a replacement part, you can send your doll to American Girl, and they'll fix it for a fee. Its about $40, but its well worth it. Toys are meant to be enjoyed ❤

    I wouldn’t suggest putting a blanket or anything like that over them. It increases the chance of ink transfer

    Poor dolls falling on the floor. I hope no lasting "scars".

  • @dakotatwilight

    Also something I found out the hard way be wary of fuzzy or wooly blankets that are dark or bright colored these can leave marks or stains on your dolls vinyl, even very expensive blankets. I have now switched to very pastel colored blankets any where near near my dolls or shelves. This can be an issue if you have a smaller room.
    Also I have found that if you live somewhere where water is harsh or highly clorinated it is better to use either distilled water or filtered water on your dolls hair. It stays cleaner longer.

    how are these dolls suposed to be for kids? they are so delicate, i collect other brands of dolls and never had to be this delicate with them

      I’m curious! which brand of dolls do you collect?

    • @ALT-vz3jn

      They’re for older children - ages 9 and up. I wouldn’t recommend the curly haired dolls for kids though. Whenever I get a curly doll I display her only, so her hair doesn’t get messed up. So yeah for a kid I would get a doll with straight hair or with a wave on the bottom like Lea, Saige, 110 are good dolls for kids with lots of hair.

      This seems a bit excessive to try and keep your doll perfect. My daughter has 2 and I help keep their hair nice but other than that, she plays with them how a kid would and they're fine.

    I wish there was a way for American girl doll company to make the dolls waterproof and sun proof so that you can take them wherever you go even to the beach without them getting ruined

      I take mine to the beach anyways. I think my money is better spent when I enjoy my dolls out in the world with photos than worried about them being perfect on the shelf. But to each their own. I still make sure not to get my dolls wet and keep them exposed for too long but even if they get slightly damaged, I'm ok with it if I've really had fun.

      @fangirl7914 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      These tips are just if you want to keep your doll in pristine, like new condition, which is what many adult collectors may want. I personally am not this serious because I think my money is better spent when I take my dolls out for photos and enjoy them than keep them pretty on a shelf. I've definitely taken dolls to the beach for example, I'm just careful.

    • @ALT-vz3jn
      @ALT-vz3jn 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Why? It’s not hard to treat your doll normally and not beat up on them. People are rough on their toys.

    These are good tips, I'm sure people will find this very helpful! I have a CYO doll made in 2018 who is strictly for display purposes only. One thing I've been wondering, can dust damage an American Girl doll?

    • @ALT-vz3jn
      @ALT-vz3jn 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not really. Sunlight is a much bigger risk, it will discolor the doll and outfit in the long term.

  • @lillysummeroriginals1213
    @lillysummeroriginals1213 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do not place your dolls by direct sunlight. I got out of collecting for a bit and I just happened this way. When I came back they all had highlights which didn’t look that great. I get that sometimes happens by mistake but if you need to keep them by a window put them in a box. That way the sunlight doesn’t affect them. Hope this can help. My channel for collecting American girl is ag crafty life and I also am legally blind
