I do so love macaw purrs! Charlie seems pretty laid back. Gerry seems younger and a bit more busy. Watch the sneezing especially if your bird is sticking their nails into their nose. When my 31 year old B&G macaw gets seasonal and winter sinus condition my benchmark is when wet secretions are discharging or she is swollen around her nares. If my bird starts sticking her nails in there she gets irrigated with 0.75% sterile saline. My vet gave us hydroxyzine to alleviate allergy symptoms. Because I have to immobilize her to do both I only do it when she starts the above symptoms. Me being a nurse and having lived with my birds more than 3 decades makes it easier to spot and treat symptoms. If the sinus has wet discharge parrot should be evaluated by a licensed avian exotic vet. Since where I live there’s so few avian trained vets I often do surveillance in my birds and they will give me Rx that I can use when Rio looks as if she’s struggling. I also live with a 35 y/o Cherry head conure. He has had some sinus congestion too lately. Learning how to quickly and safely immobilize your parrot is an emergency skill and one all parrot owners should practice. All it takes is a clean non terry cloth fabric. Terry towels have tiny loops which a birds nails can get caught in. I do this only when I need to safely medicate or nasal irrigation is needed. I get them in and out quickly. Charlie looks like a sweet macaw.
That is wonderful insight to keep an eye on her sneezing. Thank you! Spotting a problem way in the beginning is so critical as it can snowball later into catastrophic levels later.
