    Great video! Would love to see a vid with an intact male English lab and how to manage excessive fixation on smells + marking.

    Thank you again Stonnie! great information. We have a 8 month old English Chubby and really appreciate these "English lab" specific videos. these dogs seem to need a different strategy when it comes to training and motivating them. Keep them coming please!

    Thanks for the encouragement!! The dumbbell is my dog's least favourite retrieving item too. I'm happy to say my dog and I are "off to the races". Great video Stonnie:)

    Love your videos and your overall interaction with and treatment of the dogs! We have a 6 year old English Lab (fox red) who is great at retrieving but seldom wants to give up the retrieved item (we usually have to play with two items). Any tips?
    Thanks again for all the great content!

    Hi Stonnie, what is your opinion on buying a "finished dog" looking at either lab or chessie for ducks but maybe a lower energy washout because I'm not hunting everyday. 5-10k range

    My 110 lb 4 yr old is still insane. I can throw the ball till it looks like he's gonna have a heart attack, and he still won't stop. I have never seen a lab this energetic. It's alot! And this is my 3rd black lab. Does anybody else have one so obsessed with the ball?

      It’s in their blood. Just have to structure behavior inside the house. Should be a great dog to have.

      I do. My 2 year old black lab will continue to run after a ball until she collapses. I have to really watch her in the summer so she doesn't overheat and actually kill herself. She's bonkers for the ball. Oh and she's all of 52 lbs and has no fear of busting through heavy brush.

  • @JetBlackMagic

    What do you do when your working Lab just doesn't want to play fetch, she's just more interested in the treats!

    • @TheSnappleman75
      @TheSnappleman75 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mine was about 1.5 years old before the fetch fixation took over. Before that it was work he did for treats, now he won't even acknowledge other dogs at the park if there's a ball in play.

    • @JetBlackMagic
      @JetBlackMagic ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheSnappleman75 I honestly long for that but my Lab is 20 months and still showing no signs of interest in retrieving 🤦🏽‍♀️

      I should have read the "fine print" lolol Found out the hard way that a Labs between the two types exist -- cold water hunters.

    Interesting. Never saw an English lab in action. I assumed an English lab was pretty much a regular lab but with an English accent and better manners.

    Stonnie, I love your videos, but I owe it to my three year old English Lab to make a statement. Rose is from Robert Milner's place and she has more drive than any of the Labs I have owned in the past fifty years. My Vet calls her an Olympian. I limit my sessions to four or five retrieves, three or four times a day. I have no doubt she would go all day if I would continue with her. In the house, she is laid back. When it's time for business, she has no quit. So, please , not all English Labs are slow.

    • @StonnieDennis
      @StonnieDennis  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I’m familiar with those lines. Just to make things a little bit more confusing, the Milner lines are referred to as British Labrador Retrievers.
      I’ve had quite a few British field line dogs at the kennel, and I’ve never met one I didn’t like!

  • @ImpCaesarAugustus
    @ImpCaesarAugustus ปีที่แล้ว

    Why would you want a lab that doesn't have a natural drive to retrieve? Is there some benefit to the English lab that I'm missing here?

    • @StonnieDennis
      @StonnieDennis  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! They are beautiful and make excellent companions!

    • @ImpCaesarAugustus
      @ImpCaesarAugustus ปีที่แล้ว

      @@StonnieDennis But maybe not the best choice for a hunter? I don't doubt they're great companions. The one in this video just looks like he wants to lay down by a fire and be pet by everyone in the house. Good boy.
