Any time I hear Sting's voice start with "I am the monster you created... you ripped out all my parts" (which was written for this show and fits SO fucking well) I just get chills and a lump in my throat.
Because often we see villains as just that, villains. But there's almost all of the time just a ton of pain and torment behind their choices. Jinx wasn't inherently evil, she was just broken. It doesn't excuse her behaviour but it does explain it... and it does build empathy.
Same goes for Silco, who could've been your every day stereotypical villain. Instead, we see him sit near Vander's statue, contemplating about his feelings for his surrogate daughter, and finally realizing that that's the reason Vander changed as well... "All we ever wanted, and what do I lose but problems. Oh, it all makes sense now, brother. Is there anything so undoing as a daughter?"
    It's just a 10/10 show all around.

@@djgizmoe I love that the very last words Jinx hears from Silco while they are heard posthumously are the very first words Powder hears as his daughter. They are played exactly the same audio wise but they hit completely different. When he calls her little girl he's ready to off her right there but as SOON as she flings herself at him and he hears her speak she went from a disposable pawn to the manifestation of his major hang up loyalty and betrayal. So when he embraces her and say "We will show them. We will show them all." It's very comforting very hopeful. It's his way of telling her you are valuable.
But when she's pushing through the grief having literally lost her father for the 3rd time in her life, and metaphorically losing her sister and she's crying through the pain she hears one last time "We will show them. We will show them all." But this time there's no hope, no comfort, there is only rage, animosity, and determination to show them all in the most destructive way possible.
To be able to pull off that dichotomy of a line usage is nothing short of amazing.

I felt so bad for Sevika. She really was loyal to what she thought was best for Zaun at all times and she constantly had to clean up Jinx‘s messes and fight a walking redhead temper tantrum 😩 I think if Vi had just went up and talked to her that first time Sevika would have told her about Jinx without a fight. And then she was hung up in Silco’s office because he lied to his daughter. And THEN she lost her arm a second time for him! I pray for better times for Sevika in S2 🕯

Ep3 mirrors the shots between Vander and Silco on the walkway with Vi and Powder outside the factory, Viktor interrupting Jayce gets flipped, the opening scene where the Piltover cop is shooting a rioter from the undercity get flipped where Jinx shoots one of the cops on the bridge while humming the same song she was singing when they came upon their dead parents, and so on and so on.

I think Marcus has more depth than most give him credit for. He starts out as an overeager, arrogant prick. After his boss gets offed, he tries t ocut a deal with Silco like the one that had existed with Vander. The deal with Vander worked. It kept the peace. Silco was a different animal though, and he didn't realize until he was in over his head. He never did get a chance at redemption, because he tried to solve things his own way.

I've always longed for a deep, mature story set in a world of animation but I've never felt that it's tapped into it's full potential. Shows like Love, Death, & Robots gave me a sample of what of that potential could be from brilliant artists/storytellers....but Arcane, in my opinion, is a triumph on every level! I also wanted to say that after you've unpacked the full brunt of this incredible story; you owe it to yourself to watch it again, uninterrupted, no cameras, no distractions...just Arcane, you and your thoughts. I think you'll find that there is a ton of stuff you missed or didn't catch...but now that you have the full story, I think you'll see all of the little subtleties, foreshadowing and nuances that maybe didn't make sense previously or were missed entirely. I have watched the series twice so far and was amazed by how much I missed the first time through. I'll throw you an example but in an effort to not spoil these kinds of things if you'd rather find them on your own, here is fair warning...

    *
    *
    SUBTLE SPOILER from Episode 1
When I first watched the beginning of episode 1, Vi and Powder were on the bridge leading from the Undercity to Piltover. Smoke and destruction were everywhere and you hear Powder singing some kind of nursery rhyme. But every once in a while, the screen would get twitchy and scribbled lines would pop on and off over the scene. I didn't think much of it at the time other than maybe it was the creators way of showing how messed up war and violence is. What I came to believe on the second watch through was that those twitches and scribbled lines were showing us just how damaged Powder was to begin with when we first see her. This was caused by the war and violence that had been going on for a while already, caused by living in poverty, possibly caused by neglectful parents who may have left the girls alone for stretches at a time (debatable but there are some small clues throughout the series that point to this, in my opinion). There are a lot of little things like this sprinkled in every episode that made me rethink some things about certain characters, plot lines and what it may mean for the second season. And just to put it out there, I know nothing about League of Legends other than it's a game and there are a lot of playable characters who each have their own lore. What that lore is or who all of the characters are...I couldn't say.
Anyway...thanks for reacting to this series! Looking forward to your thoughts when season 2 comes out.

This show has blown my mind. Never did I think a video game adaptation would be this brilliant. I have no experience with the game, but was interested by the animation. Not only was this my favourite series of the year but it is the best thing I have seen since True Detective S1. Nothing comes close. I did a video review and three separate spoiler videos covering this and enjoyed every minute. I’m so glad this community picked this series for you to watch because more people need to watch it. I have only rewatched it once but I need to do it again. This may not be the boldest claim, but thus is without a doubt the greatest video game adaptation ever made. I had little expectation of this but it blew me away. I cannot believe this is even a show. I will be there day one when the next series is out. Believe that. Much love, James.

To be honest, I thought it ended perfectly. Like I was hoping the Jinx x Vi story would end/pause here and they could put time into a series about another group of characters. I’m not disappointed that there is a season 2 for this story, but as a player, you know they are still at odds in the game so where exactly are they going to take it. Still excited for season 2 tho.
[Kinda hoping now that they’ve introduced singed that they at some point use him as a bridge to introduce the Noxus x Ionia conflicts and all the amazing stories/characters in those regions]

my favorite thing about noxus is how "that guy" they are. everything in noxus is based on how capable you are. the more you can do, the more you are worth. its a warring nation that wants to get rid of nobility and unearned status to "free" everyone and grow noxus. they value 3 core principles of power. might, guile, and vision. so people from noxus are all down. you could strip them naked, cover them in filth, and a real noxian will just stand there unashamed like "come get some" , or be planning something. if they die, its understood that they were just less capable and not strong enough. you gotta fight and take what you want in noxus so theyre all G's. mels mom is a good representation of that. shes not powerful because she has stuff/soldiers. she has stuff/soldiers because shes powerful.

To many people believe Noxii are the bad guys just because of their expansionist mentality but to that people I say just watch the "After Victory" cinematic
Noxus is one of the best meritocratic societies I've seen in any form of media and there's lot of examples:
*-Darius and Draven were just kids when they whooped a soldier to rob him*
      Normal society: let's punish them
Noxus: they will replace that man in the army
*-Xin Zhao was a prisoner of war*
Normal society: let's throw him in a POW camp
Noxus: let him fight in the coliseum to regain his freedom
*-Kled appeared in the middle of a battle riding Skaarl and defeated both sides because he wanted that land*
Normal society: that yordle is mad
Noxus: that yordle is our new cavalry commander

    • @hapythots
      @hapythots 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@fredmedrano6584 i mean... they are the "bad guy" of the world. every country is minding its own, but noxus is expansionist and is literally all about spreading noxus to the world. if you dont join or submit, you are an enemy and need to be wiped out. they are consumed by their own ideals. none of the countries are perfect, but noxus is for sure the bad guys of the world. being weak in their society is basically a death sentence. they dont care about their poor or needy, because they are dead weight. dying or slave labor is their only way to contribute. the positive qualities of noxus are cool, but they definitely are far far far overboard lol. demacia is racist for now, noxus is militaristic/heartless, ionia had demons lol, bilgewater is just a crime city, screw the frejlord, piltover has zaun, shurima just came back, and targon is just mountain frejlord. ionia sounds like the best to live in... if it wasnt for the noxus invading it.

Silco was always willing to sacrifice other people's children for his cause, until it came down to him having to lose his adopted child. He always talked about not giving in to fear, but then he gave into his own.
I just noticed there is a notch, by a bullet, in the chair Silco was tied to. It immediately reminded me of the chair that he forced the first user of shimmer to sit in. (Although that chair had a much bigger notch out of it )
The thought that went into all of the little details seems staggering from the point of view of this casual viewer. I just heard this series was nominated for 9 Annies (animation awards), and won all of them.

now i have played league of legends for 11 years. and I can pretty well imagine how that giant bomb (Ultimate spells) would end up in the city council. try and read about the character named Senna. she looks a lot like Mel, and if you look at what she can do in the game, she makes 2 different Shields on her spells when you play the game, so I hope that's what happens if I think it is = she get shielded them all... if you notice it at the very end, Mel's shirt lights up, I wonder if that's where the shield comes in??

if you notice what spells they have in the game, we are used in the movie. so I'm sure it's the Senna shield coming in!"!!!

Congrats on finishing this awesome season. Jinx did jinx it up again. Wonderful how Silco has come to understand what Vander was doing before. Sitting at Vander's statue and sharing a drink really made it work. My expectation for season 2 is that our main players in the council survive via some sort of Hextech shenannigans but the rest of the council is killed. There's unrest and disarray and Piltover is being taken over by the Undercity. Noxus uses this opportunity to take over Piltover to seize the Hextech and force the Undercity back. Viktor is captured but Mel and Jayce escape to the undercity and meets up with Vi, Caitlyn, Ekko, and Heimerdinger and forms a resistance alongside Sevika. Jinx is a rogue agent just causing mayhem for Noxus, but I feel in the end it's her time to go in a self sacrifice to save Caitlyn and Vi. Just as season 2 is ending we could be introduced to the larger world as Noxus' enemies are bearing down on Piltover.... But that's just where my speculation runs. In any case, I'm sure it will be amazing, with new characters and story arcs.
