I must be a pro because I use the rock dust and pebbles when epoxying my rock together. Makes for a seamless fishing and more natural. Great vid as always;)
I’m doing a 75 g reef using Marcos rock and mortar. Plan on doing aquascape in 3 parts then put them together in the tank like a puzzle so the three parts are just touching each other, making it look like all one piece not piling the rocks too high so tall growing corals will have room to grow.
I changed my scape numerous times till I was happy with it, think it took me a few weeks of living with it and liking the finished product. It’s definitely worth taking your time at this stage as it’s really difficult messing with the scape once water and livestock are in it. Really like what you’ve done here Dev
Awesome job Dev, looking great! I honestly didn’t know this type of mortar kit existed for aquarium rock, great way to create the perfect scape and be able to transport into the tank!
Marco rocks definitely make good aquascaping. It fits very well and can do any design you liked. I cannot get Marco rock over here. So my reef I used almost 450kgs of live rocks.
I have some rock I'm cycling now...hoping to be done in about 3 weeks. Once I pull out and dry fit the pieces...I'll cement with Marco-400 cement. It says to cure for 2 hours. Would you say it's safe then to add to wet tank? Or will that cause cement to soften/break? I'm just confused how to put together a rock scape with live-rock without killing the bacteria being out of the water.
You could likely scape under water but it would take longer to cure.. will likely cloud your water and be a bit messy.. but do able. I have done it with another brand way back when. you could always pop some out scape in chunks then add back to the cycling bin
Hi I was wondering how were you able to get such large pieces of the Marco shelf Rock? I also got a water box and would like to use shelf Rock, but the last time I ordered shelf Rock 30lbs the sizes came out really small. How many pounds of the SHELF ROCK did you order? Thanks
Wish I knew about the concrete when we did our tank. The good thing about Marco rock is that it fits kind of nice and tight naturally. Knock on wood our structure is holding strong.
I love your videos. They really are great. One suggestion though: be more confident when you look at the camera. Hype yourself up and asking to like/subscribe will come more naturally
Nice job. Just wondering how do you clean or take things out or move things around that are under overhangs? They make these toadstool looking based rocks too, looks like a pedestal.
Great looking scape Dev. 👍👌 Do you anticipate any leeching of PO4 from the rock for the first few months? I believe, but could be wrong, that this is what caused my issues in the nano. 🏴🙏💚❤
Do you know if this rock high in silica? I have a newly cycled tank and going through a BAD diatom bloom mostly on the rock and thats why I ask. I know this is normal in new tanks but usually starts on the substrate. Anyone feel free to chime in. Thank you.
i have some old live rock that has dried and I need to bleach cure it . It has a new look beacuse it wasnt used long and 40 lbs worth so hate to waste it but tested posiiitve for amonia when I soaked it. I plan to buy some shelf rock to because I am aqua scaping a 120 gallon and it 24s inches from front o back so I need a lot of dimension and I think the shelf rock will hel p fill in those space. I would rather just buy more marco regular or reef saver. Do you know if i can fill in 24 inches of front o back width with regular rock? Also I am not sure how to do it since it will be wet. Unless I glue it outside and just let it all cure togher in the tank, even though a lot of the rock will be new. What do you recomend?. I am in no hurry really because I just got a plug n play that I cant resist for 100 bucks, lights, skimmer heaters tank, ,wavemakers preplummed and all. I have another trash can of live rock tonga and arches of caribe sea life rock that i will use for that for probably 6 months or so. I would love to add a few arches and tonga to the 120 but it is very dark live rock so it just wouldnt blend in with the new rock..bummer. Maybe I will save it for down the road, when colors match up!
Pro tip: just man up and handle the Marco mortar with your hands. Make a small batch, ball it up and pinch off what you need. Beats making happy rocks all day lol
Nice scape Dev...This new tank is gonna be epic. Are you transferring your other coral and livestock to the new tank? Since ur doing new rock, it looks like a fresh start?
Fish will mainly move over. Coral from shallow reef is all going into office lagoon. Once waterbox is cycled I’ll start braking off coral and moving it in then I can let it re grow off the encrusted bits in the lagoon :)
This is one of the most important phases. Really take your time here and enjoy the process. Like he said no rush.

Sounds like a solid plan!

This is revision 876 lol. I’m sure I’ll tweak it a bit more still. But Almsot there. Absolutely worth taking your time to get it perfect!
100% agree. I went through so many revisions over day and still may tweak a bit more :)
Awesome job Dev, looking great! I honestly didn’t know this type of mortar kit existed for aquarium rock, great way to create the perfect scape and be able to transport into the tank!
I normally try to glue the key ones to keep it solid yet portable
Looks good can’t wait for the new build
Thanks! About 90% there. A few more tweaks to go

how mush you say that flat pice of rock that you hold 1:33 in to the film is in lb ore kg ??
This tank scape is going to be your best one yet.
Woo! Appreciated! It’s about 95% there
Can't wait to see what you have come up with 😊
Thanks Tina!! It’s close

Lots! i ordered a ton of rock to give my self lots of options to work with
Big kid LEGO! Hey, nice pro tip on sprinkling the rock dust on the wet mortar to hide the gray cement colour. I’m gunna do that:)
Great looking scape top tips
Thanks! Happy you enjoyed it

They do seem to lock together pretty well!

Nice job. Just wondering how do you clean or take things out or move things around that are under overhangs? They make these toadstool looking based rocks too, looks like a pedestal.
Hehe yea this is a more natural looking version. You would have to move it to vacuum Under it. Or get creatures to clean your sand for you :)
Hey, are this rocks ready to use or do they need some watering??
You will have to cycle them but they are clean and organic free
Great looking scape Dev. 👍👌
Do you anticipate any leeching of PO4 from the rock for the first few months? I believe, but could be wrong, that this is what caused my issues in the nano. 🏴🙏💚❤
Not at all. They are mined rocks and should not have any organically on it
@@ReefDudes awesome, mine nust have been ceramic or man made 😂😂

Nice work 👍
Do you know roughly how much rock you used?
Nope. Not off hand. I always buy too much to have lots of options
ReefDudes fair enough, can’t wait to see this build develop :)
Awesome video thanks! You got a new sub looking forward to more vids thanks again!
I like to drill holes in the rock when it is dry that frag plugs can sit in later.
Good strategy. I normally cut the stems off plugs and glue them
Pro tip: just man up and handle the Marco mortar with your hands. Make a small batch, ball it up and pinch off what you need. Beats making happy rocks all day lol
Hahaha I did in the end. It I have also destroyed my hands after days and days of scaping
@@ReefDudes haha builds character with worn hands 😂.
Then my wife will complain about extra rough hands for weeks! Some things are not worth it
How many tanks are you running?
Will end up with 2 My office lagoon and the waterbox
Looks great how much to come to chilly Philly and do my 190 tank scape? Lol
Hmmmm plane ticket and ... lol we’ll see
Can you discuss drilling and rods vs mortar and glue?
I can follow up on that in a future stream
Hi Dev looking good mate 👍
Good info Devin.
What is macro rock, like what material is it? white cement?
Marco Rock is a natural calcium carbonate rock
Nice scape Dev...This new tank is gonna be epic. Are you transferring your other coral and livestock to the new tank? Since ur doing new rock, it looks like a fresh start?
Fish will mainly move over. Coral from shallow reef is all going into office lagoon. Once waterbox is cycled I’ll start braking off coral and moving it in then I can let it re grow off the encrusted bits in the lagoon :)
I'm going to attempt to start a scape later this week
You totally could. Use a hacksaw and cut a rock in half and put half in each tank. Could look cool!
Devin can you post the finish picture on Instagram trying to tell my wife why I need to spend a few more hundred on rock
I will later in the week once I finish it Still needs a few more tweaks
