Whats crazy is that this is the first track on Revival. "Believe" directly follows this, and asks "Do you still believe in me?" Every tiny detail is meticulously planned by this man. I believe he actually had a complete roadmap for his career in the beginning, and he has said as much. It was working to a T until after he dropped his third straight hiphop classic album in The Eminem Show. The fame and drugs finally caught up to him.
When The Eminem Show released, I thought "wow, this dude might actually be untouchable and the best to do it. Then cme Encore, and I thought "oh no! He ruined it!" Lol. A few DECENT albums after, and Kamikaze came. Such a winderful feeling to see a childhood hero regain his throne stronger than ever, and becone better than ever. A true testament to the power of passion for your art, and never giving in. I love it! Revival was def good, imo, people trashed it because there are a few too many goofy rock sampled songs on it. However, some of his best tracks are on it too.🤷♂️

@@zu3834 the album is bad. Was it trashed too hard? Yea, definitely. But it still deserved to get trashed. A rapper of Ems caliber should be able to put out consistently good projects, & he was coming off of an insane run from 2011-2015. This should've been a really good album but it was terrible
His writing on this album is awesome. Some people don't like the beats and production and features etc. It's more of a concept album than a banger. It's my favorite though, because it's raw and emotional.

This song is a masterpiece the way Em bared his heart & soul onto this track was just so emotional and yet so revealing Beyoncé vocals are amazing too this song has a sad yet uplifting message towards the end and to answer your question this album got heavily criticized just cause Em chose to take a different creative direction from his previous albums which was unexpectedly great and yes it’s a masterpiece Em The Goat! Walk On Water will age gracefully once folks realize he was opening about his true struggles as a Hip Hop/Music Artist in general👊🏽🐐🔥💯(Please React to Eminem “Heat” also my fav tracks on this album is In Your Head,Original Chloreseptic,Walk On Water,Castle,Arose,basically the whole album)

I think artists can relate to that song a lot more than regular listeners. Some people clearly don't know how hard is to outdo everything you have already done. The pressure on Eminem is insane cause people expect so much then he goes and try so hard to become better and then people come and tell him his shit sucks...

Think many people hating on this song because it expresses vulnerability, sensitivity, emotions, insecurities etc, all things that still to this day can be considered to be taboo for a man, and therefore i think its a defense mechanism to call it trash, so that you aren't being associated with this "softness", especially in the rap world.
I get goosebumps every time i hear this song.
I hear people shit on his music all the time, and I can understand it with some of his lanes like the accents, and "My Name Is" that always comes up and also his psychodic tracks like "Stay Wide Awake" etc. But I don't understand it with songs like this when he's vulnerable and real. How can you hate a song from the heart and not the brain. His brain is crazy but his heart is honest. Letting you in behind the facade to understand his struggles and insecurities. Not every song need to go hard like that.
This is hard too, just in a different way. This is not the type of song you bump or break apart like most others. It's one you sit with, relate with and get to know the artist on a deeper level. These types of songs deserve the most respect imo. Hating on it is like being at someone's theraphy session or AA meet and laugh and heckle the person in the background.
Yeah, exactly what I always tell. Like someone stealing a diary and laughing about what's written in it. Is it all great? No, I don't think so. But it's not completely terrible and you're right, this isn't a hard beat but it's a hard topic to talk about. Just rip open your insides and let them lie on the track for everyone to pick at - that's a ballsy move. People don't have to agree with the samples and features but this is like a therapy-session that he decided to share with his fans. Some of those fans clearly didn't deserve it

This is one of my top 5 Em tracks. It's so damn honest and relatable, esp for anyone doing creative work.
Long as I’ve played music I never stopped to think what a piano was… that’s amazing… now that u mention it, a piano has mallets that hits the strings when u push the keys, effectively making it percussion?… Never had stopped to consider how the thing I was playing was actually working… I knew how they worked… jus never really pondered on the mechanics… all this from two friends on an Eminem-Walk on Water reaction/breakdown channel and video… Dumbfounding how Metube and the intryweb can still surprise a feller from time to time after all these years 😳 Keep up the good work!! Man, your reactions to this song, the desire to beat up people who shitted on this album is pretty much exactly what I felt when I listened to this. I mean - goddamn, what kind of ass do you have to be to shit on this song?
There are definitely some not-so-great songs on Revival, it's not my favorite album, but this particular song and "Believe" (although it took me longer to enjoy that one, I'm not a big fan of the staccato -rhythm he has going) and then the last three of this album (In my head, Castle and Arose) just ... come ON! They're so personal and painful and still skillfully done that people who shit on the album simply don't get it.
I'm not sure where he says it ... maybe on the interview with LL Cool J? But Eminem said that he brought the Revival to Dre and Dre said "Where's the fun?" about it, saying there was too much heavy and deep shit and so he put on Heat and Remind me to balance it a little.... Which probably backfired a lot. So I find it hilarious and dumb that some people who claim to be fans still to this day (after that interview came out) say that Eminem should've let Dre look at the album... Dudes - he DID! And Dre thought it wasn't bad!

Sorry for this little rant. This is one of my absolute favorite songs from Eminem. I love a lot of his songs and some might be better on a skill-level but this is... it's personal in a different way. This is a "Hey, look - you're my fans and this is how I feel about my life and you all" and I can't wrap my head around how some people heard this and decided Eminem lost his grip. WTF ??! He rapped over a PIANO with nothing BUT the piano! And it still sounds dope! And pretty much every artist would have some sympathy for the "until I sit in my car and pick it apart"-line, right? (Unless other artists are super-confident). And when you're nearly prepared to go and buy the dude some chocolate and send it to him to help with his existential angst, he turns it around and says "Naw, for real - I'm pretty great" Which makes this song not at all whiny and pitiful but builds up confidence and yupp, it is on my gym-playlist (soldier isn't, though... I might have to put that one on, maybe)
I am not as much a fan of Beyonce on it but I get why she's the perfect choice for the chorus.
Dresden was the name of the street Eminem lived on & it's now gone. On the cover over MMLP is the house. He has mentioned this a few times in other songs

Good lyrics, rhyme schemes and meanings on this album. Production was abit dicey but overall I actually find this album gets better with time. All depends on personal taste tho, I love intricate Lyricism, always have.

This is not a song em made for you to focus on cadence or rhyme scheme or how good the rhyme is. It's not always about that. On these types of songs you should focus more on what he's saying, like the message he wants to give out(here for example how hard it is to find the always the best rhyme ecc.), and not focus on what rhymes with what. This song represents so much for us fans because he lets us in, in what his thought process is everything. It doesn't hit because he rhymes harp,gripe with hard vicodin...

This is one of the few genuinely good songs on the album. I think the reason it got hate back then was cause of his flow if I remember correctly, but it definitely ain't hated now lol
I think people really hated the beats, and all the pop features in that album. And that made it have very little replay value unfortunately. If produced differently, this album could've actually been a good one
