  • Canisteo, N.Y. (WHAM)- People living in Steuben County are cleaning up the mess left behind by flooding from remnants of Debby last week.
Gov. Kathy Hochul was in the area Sunday offering state support, including assistance for homeowners filing insurance claims.
Jennifer Hurlburt has lived in her Canisteo home for years. She says she never could have imagined having to wait to be rescued from the flood waters from the second floor of her house.
"There was too much water. It was coming up onto the porch and on the porch, so I went to the second story and at least talk to him (my husband)," Hurlburt said. "I made the worst call to my daughter to tell her where I was and to say 'goodbye' and that I didn’t know what was going to happen. I was in the house for 2 and 1/2 hours. I was boat-rescued."
Friday, the remnants of Debby caused severe flooding for Hurlburt and many other people who live in Canisteo.
