I don't think rod hull realised how much recognition he had within the tv and entertainment industry , he looks shocked that anybody would nominate him for this is your life , lovely bloke
Still miss you both. A hero from my childhood. Couldn't wait to get home from school to watch Rod and Emu. Thank you for the happy memories you gave me and others of my generation.
Rod Hull - A great and talented comedian and entertainer, a lovely man who, during my childhood provided me with countless, priceless laughs, delightful moments and memories!
Gone but never forgotten. ❤️ I was born after he passed, and I’m not British, but I came across his shows one day and am so glad I did. He had a wonderful personality and could make anyone smile. Rest well, Rod.
What a lovely episode to watch again (I remember the original). So sad how Mr Hull passed away. RIP Rod and thank you for all the laughter over all the years.
Rod Hull and Emu. Guaranteed chaos, brilliant.I am in tears of laughter remembering their antics. No one was safe with Emu!! Thanks for all the laughs you gave Rod and Emu too.
I'm currently following Rod's sons Toby and Oliver, as well as Catrina, on Twitter. My late cousin Robbie, who was handicapped, never missed Rod's TV shows.
RIP. .Rod . A fantastc suprise for Rod Hull and well deserved 👏. Very much missed . Thanks Rod and Emu for entertaining the millions throughout the 80s xxz
What a real treat this one was to watch again loved Rod hole and emu back in the 70s and 80s early 80s great program very talented but as sidekick who was feared by all especially interviewers well done again hasn’t seen this for your ages what a treat 24:40
Watching these old shows reminds one how interconnected we all were back then. TV brought us together then. Our TV was the best in the world. We all shared great comedy and drama and you could chat to anyone about what had been on the box the night before. The BBC's World Service was the most trusted news source on earth. Look at it now.
In a strange, ironic twist, the accident that claimed Rod Hull's life - falling off the roof of his home while adjusting the TV antenna - was tragically replicated a few years later here in Australia when Ross Burton, once part of the Australian Pop group, *The Executives* and later musical director for the TV show, *Young Talent Time,* also fell to his death while adjusting the TV antenna on his home. Ross Burton, in 1973 was Jamie Redfern's music director and bandleader on Jamie's touring concerts.
I loved Emu’s World and the Pink Windmill Show. With Emu around it was organised chaos but you knew it was funny madcap. Coincidentally his stepdaughter Catrina was one of the Emu’s World/Pink Windmill kids. It’s terrible that he lost his fortune in some bad investments, and of course his life ended far too prematurely after his awful accident at home in 1999. May he continue to rest in peace but his legacy will live on.
Thanks for posting that, I really enjoyed it. I really loved Rod Hull and Emu. I think I was a baby at the time, but my mum and dad went to a show they were in and my mum got her knees attacked by Emu. It was such a sad day when they announced he had died, trying to fix his TV aerial on his roof, I think it was. He died too early. His family looked lovely too. I didn't know he had so many children. I might search to see what they look like now and what they are up to.
5:00 The *REAL* truth is, while working on the "Kaper Kops" show in Australia(for Station TCN-Sydney), Hull found the emu puppet in a rubbish bin at Station TCN and it became(with some stitching), Rod Hull's puppet.
Anyone noticed one of the little girls standing near the counter at the beginning of the video?... it’s the lovely Darcey Bussell ! That show was done before she joined the Royal ballet school . She was a student of Arts Educational school back then.
So very funny. That bird had a mind if it's own....genius. so very sad what happened. RIP , xxx so glad I was born in 1970. Larry Grayson , great memories
cheggars bless his heart totally played along rod was the man when i was a kid in the 70s ,everyone adored emu - sad that his last gig was for a private birthday n he was paid 500 quid - he died 2 days later :(
Rodney Hull (13 August 1935 - 17 March 1999)Eamonn Andrews (19 December 1922 - 5 November 1987)Keith Chegwin (17 January 1957 - 11 December 2017)Larry Grayson (31 August 1923 - 7 January 1995)William "Billy" Dainty (22 February 1927 - 19 November 1986)On 17 March 1999, Hull climbed onto the roof of his bungalow - named Shepherd's Cottage, in Winchelsea, near Rye, East Sussex - to adjust his television aerial during the second leg of a Champions League quarter-final football tie between Internazionale and Manchester United at the San Siro. It was a procedure he had carried out frequently, as shown in home video footage included in the 2003 documentary Rod Hull: A Bird in the Hand. In his attempt to improve reception, he slipped from the roof and fell through an adjoining greenhouse. The 63-year-old entertainer suffered a severe skull fracture and chest injuries. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Conquest Hospital in Hastings. Following an inquest, the East Sussex Coroner, Alan Craze, recorded a verdict of accidental death. How sad...
@19:11 Michael Parkinson wasn't at all happy when he was attacked by Emu on his show - having calmed down here, it's great to hear him saying nice things about Rod. His act was unique.
Emu and Rod shenanigans on the Parkinson Show is even more chaotic than the ostriches in "I'm a Celebrity" taking a dislike to John Lydon... Don't know which one is funnier... BIG BIRDS and people in showbiz are best left alone 🤣😂🤣😂🐦🐦👍😍
I often wonder if Rod Hull could have done anything without the emu he became typecast as the emu man, it seemed like it was the law that he must have the emu with him on stage
HI, I am scouting around youtube, asking if anyone has a complete, good quality copy of Norman Wisdom This Is Your Life. I think it dates back to the late 80's, with Eamonn Andrews. Can you help atall, please? There are versions on youtube, but with bits missing and ragged sound. Thanks.
I don't think rod hull realised how much recognition he had within the tv and entertainment industry , he looks shocked that anybody would nominate him for this is your life , lovely bloke

My god this takes me back decades, extremely funny, time to bring back it's a knockout!
I found this by chance but suddenly realised after ten minutes I'd been smiling the whole time. Excellent.
Rod Hull and Emu. Guaranteed chaos, brilliant.I am in tears of laughter remembering their antics. No one was safe with Emu!! Thanks for all the laughs you gave Rod and Emu too.

Rod hull was a very nice genuine working class man who tragically had an accident that ends his life. Rip rod. Made me laugh a million times

He looks genuinely dazed throughout this.
Loved Rod and Emu. Happy memories. 😊 😍👍🏻
He was evacuated to Bargoed, a former mining town in Wales during the war. He mentions it in an interview with Mavis Nicholson, which is on youtube.

Loved Rod...and Emu.
Not a lot of showbiz pals, & when he went bankrupt Rod would admit the phone stopped ringing & there was even less.
Genius, love Rod.
Great to see people actually nervous to be on TV. Not like the dregs today.

Oh how I miss my England of the 1960s, 70s and 80s. It's not England anymore....
Rod loved the ladies as I understand it. There was also a rumour about the novelty of his Emu act in Australia.
So sweet! Anybody remember 'The Hudson Bros. Razzle Dazzle Show' ?
Rod and Emu were there.
Was waiting for him to attack Eamon lol
the late rod was great, emu was very naughty.
TFTM sent me here.
He made that emu look alive unbelievable! Rip rod ❤
Catriona later appeared on Emu's World/Pink Windmill show with her father.
Yes because she went to the Corona Stage School with the Pink Windmill Kids like Anthony, Joe and Emma and Abbie to name a few
I loved Rod Hull SO much - What a talented man. I just wished the single-minded tv execs would have let him branch out a bit more without 'emu'.
No, he used to sexually assault women with "Emu" pushing his hand up there skirts and groping their genitaks.
Eamonn: yes I can because tonight Rod Hull this is your life! (Audience cheers) Rod Hull: you’re joking!
I heard the sad news in the 99s when rod hull had fallen off the roof fixing his TV aireal killing him at home
Loved rod Hull and emu as a kid. Is it me or did rod Hull look like Michael asple when he was younger ?
No mention of his Association in the US with the Hudson Brothers.
Met him in the cafe at Yalding brilliant man
