The problem is that PSA has changed their cases and labels so much over the years, that it's hard to determine what's fake and what is just an old case. Perhaps going over the history of psa cases and labels would make a good informational video.
That is a good point, but you add up 3,4,5 inconsistencies in a case and you can be certain it’s fake
@@DrApplesauceTwo sure. But if you don't know what has persisted throughout the existence of PSA, I could just say this is a much older graded card back when they used different font, no holographics, no PSA indentation on the case, before the watermarked blue/white paper.
And it'd be as simple as finding 01xxxxxxx certs.

Next thing you know PSA will be grading/authenticating old graded slabs
they been putting that on cases for a very long time got sports cards numbered back just after 1 1/2 million and the psa is on the plastic in the samespot slightly diferent but its there
Perhaps they change it from time to time because scammers try to replicate them. It’s like a virus, need to keep adapting as it catches up
Another thing to add about newer PSA slabs. If you have a black light you can spot on the back 6 psas on the PSA logo on the left. 3 on top, 3 on bottom. If you don’t have a black light just use a flashlight and you’ll see the indents.
I noticed right off the bat, the PSA foil logos are totally off

This is an incredibly important video!! People just starting out should be familiar with all of these details.
I think the most important tip you gave; "Be familiar with the card." This is absolutely true. Even if you are a brand new collector, there will always be an opportunity for you to see the card you want up close and in person.

Another thing that legit psa labels have is when you shine a blacklight on the labels they have a pattern of “psa” that brightly span through the label. But as far as i’m aware this is only on their newer lighthouse labels.
UPDATE: some older lighthouse labels do not have the blacklight "psa" that span through the label but they still have a backlit "psa" on the giant PSA in the back of the label.
Great video! Thank you for this! Just a note, for the older labels before 2017, there was no blue hue so you have to be extra vigilant about that. Look for signs of tampering on the case as well as some scammers crack open an original PSA case and replace the labels and cards in them.

I have never liked slabs but I hate for anyone to get scammed. Be careful guys if you have the feeling that something is off don’t buy it walk away. Education yourself is the best defense
Thank you for the video. I know you guys probably don't want to put the guy out there,but,all TH-camrs should start putting the guys names out there so we collectors can stay away from buying from these guys its especially because of the money we all work hard for to buy and collect vintage cards.

I just became interested in collecting cards..... but it seems the more I learn.... the more I’m thinking nah. So many things ruined by scammers. Thought this would be a fun hobby but I’m learning how this market has been ruined by greed also. Even buying “sealed” packs to open has its scams.... so sad how many collecting hobbies are now just a scammers paradise.

I don't believe older PSA slabs have some of those indicators. As they didn't even have the PSA "Lighthouse" a few years ago. In other words, some of the indicators you mentioned aren't on very old PSA slabs. In fact, most of the new security implementations were added back in 2017, I believe. There are quite a few threads on the Blowout Cards forums, that should have additional information if you decide to do a follow up video. I need to go dig some of my older PSA slabs and have a look at them to see what might help confirm an older PSA slab.

The old PSA slabs didn’t have PSA embossed on the front and back. Please correct me if I’m wrong 😑
what grinds my gears the most is that there is a fairly large market who like to buy fake cards. i see tons of people on multiple sites selling fake 1st edition base set charizards in these fake psa slabs. some advertise them as proxies, but some dont! then i look at the comments and theres a bunch of people asking how much or where they can buy them..
Yup. I think it’s so sad that “collectors” want something so bad they would settle for a fake. If it’s fake, I don’t want it. If it’s too expensive for me, I would rather not have it than have a fake.

Fake slabs are super common. We have an ultrasonic welder at work that a coworker uses to slab cards for local shops. The only difference is that he pits the shops logo on the card and not a fake psa logo, however if we wanted to we would just need a few minutes in photoshop to fake these things. Of course we dont and would not do that bit my point is that its pretty easy to fake these. The ultrasonic welder is expensive but common in many production shops, so there is 1000s of people with access to these machines, you need a fixture to seal the slabs which costs only 400$. But to clarify, you do need an expensibe machine to seal the slab properly so the etsy shops selling fake slabs are not a huge problem unless the buyers has an ultrasonic welder.

Thanks a bunch for this video! Found my way here after seeing someone on my local Craigslist selling a PSA 7 1st Edition Shadowless Charizard for $2k (Lol). I knew it was too good to be true, so looked up how to spot fake PSA slabs and had no idea how easy to was to fake them. Now I know in the future how to spot fake slabs!

I bought a psa card from someone on market place, everything looks legit on it. Only issue is that the PSA on the bottom right is only on one side of the card, not both. Does that mean its fake? everything else mentioned in the video is correct though

i knew in the first 2 seconds, had me wondering if i was right, but deff easy to spot on a quick glance. Cards not centred, PSA slab looks off as well, the label looks weird. Great video though man! had to watch once it came across the feed ! Just recently had some Raichu's not pass verification from Stock X - not surprised given the price i picked em up at.
Bought a 2016 Charizard 11/108 PSA 10 from a thrift shop for $50 bucks today, after watching this video and others wow a steal of deal I got today! Thank you!
As this Interest grows larger sadly so will the interest of fraud. I hope that they are able to stay ahead of the crooks.
I guessed Raichu in about 5 seconds, the PSA sticker in the middle looks different and the slabs also stood out when compared.
The gap at the bottom of the card and the bracing to hold it in place is much wider, that's how I spotted it, but only cause I had three other samples to compare and contrast it to.
If you type in the PSA cert number in the app, it comes up null which indicates the card is fake. Just an update for you.

Great video! When you’re out shopping for PSA slabs, you need to know how to spot the fakes. There are so many scammers out there who sell fake slabs by tricking people into believing the slabs are authentic PSA slabs. Just because a card is in a PSA slab doesn’t mean we don’t need to question the authenticity of it. We do! If you’re thinking about buying a PSA slab, make sure it’s authentic before you buy it!
One time I traded my friend for a charizard v and I noticed that there was a card behind it, so I peeled it and i saw a Raichu basic😭😭😭

I knew the Raichu was fake because of the PSA label Border. The red stood out compared to the rest. It was like Super Mario Red

I mean tbf I was able to tell quite clearly at first I mean the first thing that jumped out to me is that label that weird unblended 2 tone whereas normal PSA labels are matte holographic then there was the obvious deeper shade of red used for the label border and finally PSA's slabs have a frosted tone that doesn't change when angled slab was fully transparent when set on the table to a first timer yeah that would have been hard to tell but for a normal collector it should be immediately obvious the odd one out here
before video im pausing and saying the raichu because it looks like it has a gap that does not keep the card stable.

I’m worried about spa grading for a couple of reasons
1. Does it cost money.what if I spend a lot and the card is trash
2. How can I send them
3. What if they are lost in the mail
4. What if they aren’t good.

There is a guy up in Canada doing this. He is saying they are proxies but asking 150 bucks for them in fake grading cases he buys online and puts proxy base set charizards and stuff in. Some people call him out on it but so many people back him up saying that his ad says proxies! Proxies are for playing with not putting into fake graded cases that people can be taken advantage of... Drives me crazy and it's still a huge rip off

Out of those 4 cars without even looking hard you can tell easily because the blue background where the numbers and letters are, is not present on the dark raichu

Coming from someone who used to fake slab in the past. I spotted that in a split second based on the PSA top not being printed with a laser inkjet printer. Or else you could’ve gotten the holo to look the same !

Also don’t some of the cards have a picture on psa associated with the serial number? Like say you have a psa 5 and look it up on psa, then the pictures should show the exact card in your hand with any related damage. Like a smudge, scratch, white mark or whatever. So then you can confirm it’s indeed authentic. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone used an authentic label in a fake case with a fake card
The opacity is what gave it away for me. NGL it took me more than 10 seconds to notice that.
Surprisingly I guessed it right too, but i based it on the PSA logo not looking right; A lot of fake ones tend to not have the correct holo PSA logo. Also I saw no text on the bottom of the slab.

Everything checks out with my card but it doesn't have a picture when I look it up on psa, is this because it hasn't been sold on psa?

I entered the PSA Certification number into the PSA app and the app determined the Dark Raichu to be counterfeit.

I don't understand the value of card grading if there is nothing preventing a perfect fake from being made.
The red border on the fake is a lot different than the other 3. That’s what I spotted right away. It’s a little darker that the other 3 and the border of it is just off to me for some reason
I noticed the font on the fake was much larger. Would definitely bring my psa 10 card for reference when buying another.

Extra scared to even get them graded by PSA they been pinching the card in the slab..that Raichu was pinched it's not even touching the bottom

The flag for me was the visibly darker red border and the obvious line in the middle of the PSA sticker
