  • Dad was overwhelmed, scared, tired and confused. When he gets like this I try to calmly talk him back from from the fear and ease his mind. Here is my effort.

The fact that you openly owned that by making these videos, it allows you the financial ability to stay home and take care of your dad speaks measures of your integrity. So many people I see in the comments cutting you guys down for "exploiting" Dr. Ed when in all reality, you are teaching so many about caregiving as well as opening up the window to maintain the financial ability to pay your bills without needing your dad's money or leaving it all to your wife. Many women and men can learn from you. Great character Dan!

    • @allankay12

    • @allankay12

@tarakane5477 As far as being a caregiver. I cared for my father the last 13 months of his life. He couldn't even shower I had to. Then, my mom was diagnosed with alzeheimers with dementia and spent the next 11 years caring for her. I did hire a cna for 6 hours a day 3 days a week.
I know what caregivers are and the amount of energy required to do it well.

Falling was one of my Mama's biggest fears for my Daddy who had Alzheimer's. Once she came home from work on her lunch hour and caught Daddy up on the roof of the house working on some loose shingles and unclogging the gutters. Daddy was 78 and feeble and wobbly on his feet. He only weighed probably 110 or so because he wouldn't eat right & his poor diet made him weak most of the time so Mama got extremely scared about Daddy falling off the roof. After that, I started staying with him during the days while Mama was at work. It wasn't uncommon for me to have to go outside and get him to shut off & put up the weed eater or the chainsaw because he was wanting to cut some weeds or firewood. Bless him, he just wanted to do the things that he always used to do.

Yes , watching this reminds me of the 2 years we rotated living in my dear father in laws home. He refused to move in with or even to visit with us with out his wife ,then she passed away and he didn’t like the caregivers. In a last resort we rotated staying with him in his house. In the end it was only two couples and a house keeper/ helper but he was able to pass in his own home. He kept asking how long it was until his birthday, he had a big 93rd birthday and passed away shortly after that.

Dan, I love to watch your Dad's videos! My Dad had dementia (memory loss) too and passed years ago in his 80's. The first time I watched I cried the whole video because it reminded me so much of the last years of Daddy's life. He forgot my brothers and would ask "How do I know you?" all the time. But the most wonderful thing for me was that he never forgot me, his daughter.....my brothers (4) say it is because I reminded him of my mother who passed before him. Dad remembered many things from long ago as a child and when he was in the Army, 24 yrs.....always worried he was going to be AWOL (HA!). I think what you are doing is truly a wonderful thing it helps many that live with these circumstances....God Bless you and your family!!

Totally agree. Very hard job same questions over and over again. Reassuring them. My dad once I took him in the bank and he saw his account and told the lady I was stealing his money, she laughed and said no that’s not true but I was so embarrassed and red faced. I got the bank to send him bank statements per month after that and we would compare them from the past month . We even took a few into the bank to show him his money was still there. It’s when the older folk gets aggressive and lashes out that I found very hard with my dad. He only did it a few times but it was so unexpected and heartbreaking for me. But he died jan 18 2003 and I still miss the great wonderful dad he was and our great talks over the years how much he cared for me and my girls. Love you dad ❤and miss you so much. Dan, just a suggestion, show him pictures, photos of your brothers and sister when you were younger. I respect you and Daniell a lot for what you’re doing with Ed. He’s a blessing to be in your life. God bless you all.

This is so hard to do every day. You are wonderful down to earth people. I wish we had so many more like you that were there to care for elderly, especially with dementia and Alzheimer’s Parkinson. Ma had to go to a home this week!😢😢😢. I have had so many back surgeries I just can no longer do it. The funds are not there anymore. No just look up to you and your family for all you do.TY❤❤❤❤

You're so sweet and really explain things to your father. My mother passed away in 2017, just after she turned 67 y/o, but she had alzheimers that had progressed really fast in a short time. It was so heartbreaking the further it got, in the end she did really become like a shell of her former self. I miss her so much it hurts sometimes, in a way you can say I missed here before she passed even, if that makes any sense. Even if she was here still physically, she wasn't at all the same person as before understandebly. Take care of yourselfs! Love from Sweden ❤

Dan and Danielle have no problem getting anyone straight on their comments. From the videos to how they take care of their daddy. I love it. Mr. Ed seems like he’s down for anything his kids want to do. He didn’t question Dan about the videos at all. In fact said he loves helping them. His actions show that. Great family!❤

I love that dad is such a nice man. Some people with dementia are not only confused but can be mean at times which is no fault of their own. Sometimes it’s just part of the disease.

I read this from a Doctor for dementia and Alzheimer’s patients.
Coconut oil every 3 hours for five days, intramuscular B-12. Injections, have the patient move bowels as much as possible. He said that this will definitely make a difference.
    Prayers!🙏🏼🥰

I just adore your sweet Dad & your videos! So sorry for the fall. U r doing amazing taking care of your Dad. I was my Mother's caretaker until she fell & broke her hip in her kitchen. She had hip replacement surgery & never walked again & passed away 8 months later at 78. I Miss her terribly. Falls r so dangerous to elderly. Please be careful so another fall doesn't happen. Prayers Love & hugs🙏🙏🙏🙏💕❤️😍

I love Mr. Ed so much, he reminds me of my dad. Although my dad passed away last year, you and your dad are helping me to understand what I was going through with my dad, the repeat questions, asking about his money all the time, his car and his house and getting upset when he realized he was losing his independent. In my dad’s last days he moved in with me by then he had humbled himself and just took life for what it was. Your videos brings joy to my soul by giving me refresher courses of my dad❤❤

Why not get one of those collapsible camp chairs for Ed to sit on in your room? Sitting on the bed or a trunk is tiring on the back.
