SinB is from Gfriend and now she is part of Viviz. They were a patreon request a long while back but there's no way you would've known member names from that.
As soon as we finished recording I looked it up and felt guilty, but you're right that it would have been hard to recognise/remember just from that. Hopefully we'll see more though because this was great!
This is an SM Station project, which (was?) a project by SM Entertainment to produce a song every friday starting in 2016. The songs were all one-off collaborations, most inter-group and inter-company. It produced a tremendous amount of cool music, most of which has been completely ignored. It was music for music's sake, and that's not super profitable. The releases slowed down after a few years, so it is not one per week. I don't think there's been an SM Station release in 2024, but I could be wrong.
SM Station did some real experimental stuff, including being patrons of a straight-up American Jazz band, the Myron McKinley Trio. Check out their instrumental "E-12 (live)"
@@xheralt That song, E-12, is wild, with the switching time signatures! Thanks for pointing me to it. There's also an interview with Myron McKinley on the SM Station channel. I realized where I heard the name before, because he's the musical director for Earth, Wind & Fire. There's also a cover of Michael Jackson's Man in the Mirror on the SM Station channel, looks like recorded live with Myron McKinley, Stanley Clarke, and Verdine White, with part of an orchestra! It's on the stage of that music Hall in Seoul, that I've seen a hundred times. At the end of his interview, there's a jazz rearrangement of Love me Right by EXO. It sounds like Myron McKinley was called in to work on some EXO project.
Also Sinb and gfriend(and VIVIZ) are iconic in themselves. They are a force to be reckoned with and if dreamcatcher is the night, gfriend is definitely the day.
I can add a some more interesting collabs from that era: "Honey Bee" featuring f(x)'s Luna, Mamamoo's Solar, and EXID's Hani. Luna was simultaneously the unit's maknae (youngest member) and sunbae (most senior by debut date). "Feedback" featured a unit of female rappers assembled from Unpretty Rapstar to promote a mobile game called Adoonga; SISTAR's Bora plus soloists Kisum, Lil Cham, and Jace. "Deep Blue Eyes" was performed only 2x live by Girls Next Door, a project group of seven members created for Idol Drama Operation Team, where they co-wrote, acted, and sang a semi-autobiographical script about their trainee days. Think a Korean version of _A Chorus Line._ Members were Mamamoo's Moonbyul (leader), Red Velvet's Seulgi, Sonamoo's D.ana, Oh My Girl's YooA, Lovelz's Sujeong, soloist Jeon Somi (recent successful releases include "Fast Forward"), and then unsigned Kim Sohee, later signed to now-disbanded group Nature, now a soloist.
Fun fact... the girls had ONE practice together to learn the choreography.
CHUNGHA IS THAT GIRLL. An amazing soloist and one of the best dancers of her time.
