His E is no cost with 2 second cooldown To maximize it in lane, use e as fast as you can for the smallest possible shield to get extra bash. During fights you can spam shield more often to continually get more bashes
It should be known that when you stun with q, the stun is long enough for you to usually land w. So you can combo q stun with w for continued cc. You also get the mana and cd refund on w with this. You can also ult and then w with an ally for an easy escape or big engage

I knew I wasn't the only one who thought that Gromp and Kench look pretty damn similar. And then there's also the tongue/licking thing, which I won't comment on XD Now, when I've first seen the rework I actually suspected that something like this might happen. Cus yeah, he doesn't have the eating pre 6 for that huge damage, but it's not like he actually needed it to dominate toplane, it was just more of an icing on the cake (the most important thing was the permaslow on Q, which Riot did NOT address). And now he basically has a faster Zac E with less range instead, which is extremely scary, and also the whole missing health based healing on the Q, which is very much a toplaner kind of thing, since they're the guys that do clutch last second heals to outplay people (Aatrox, Darius, Sylas, Irelia, etc). So yeah, that's definitely a giant buff on his toplane, especially because it also makes him more than just a giant punching bag in the lategame. As for mechanics, there isn't really that much with Tahm, as he's mostly a knowledge based champion. Knowing when to eat allies, or playing around enemy mobility/vision with W are some things that might not be easy to do first hand. There are also a few combos like Q-W, or R-Q, or Q-auto-auto-R-Q, but they aren't as flashy as most of the other stuff we've seen on this channel. Which is actually quite nice and refreshing, and I don't like how Riot always focuses on making players hit skillshots or do flashy combos when there are other ways to make champions difficult (look at Oracle from DotA, the guy has 4 point and clicks and no mobility, yet he is one of the hardest heroes in that game). And if you're facing this abomination, then either counter pick it, or just survive and wait for him to mess up or fall off. That's how it used to go, and that's probably how it goes even now.
Try to use your E in short bursts instead of one big E to maximize shield bash usage and it's short cool down. When you use 1 big E the enemy will just stop hitting you and time it out.

A friend of mine played tahm kench for a while and it was a nightmare to play against him 1v1 Tahm is legit the only champ that when I see him in the enemy team I panic, know something is going to go wrong and just dodge
Well I played with my friends it was 3 v 3, I was playing riven and winning my lane hard, my KD was 5-0 and enemy kench was 2-1 and down 1 level big surprise I still lose to kench when they decided to switch lanes and I tried to 1v1 him thinking that I win hard but yeah I got stomped his shield is huge...

You can also just q and w it's almost a guaranteed hit unless the enemy predicts your w which is hard to do when slowed.
