The way that Clauss explains and demonstrate the concept of collapsed rudiments is awesome. It is so intuitive that now, everytime I practice a rudiment, I can not avoid to think about different ways to collapse it. Great drummer, great teacher, and seems to be a very nice guy. Cheers to Claus and Drumeo for this lesson.
My favorite part was the solo. This guy's playing is like a hidden pirate chest You can't understand what's inside until you dig in. And when you open it it's awesome.
I don't think I've ever heard anyone with such an interesting and unique approach. I'm so impressed with Claus' fluidity and accuracy, absolutely unreal. My favorite was actually watching him play through "Inception". The way he started with an idea and expanded and "collapsed" it throughout the tune was just so refreshing.

I liked that moment when Claus collapsed the paradiddle into a flam accent. That's when the whole idea of expanding or collapsing rudiments really clicked for me. Conceptually, I saw how rudiments are connected and ideas came to better understand, practice, master, and apply the rudiments in my playing. This lesson was really exciting to me and motivated me to practice. Thanks to Claus Hessler and Drumeo for bringing him in!
More than anything, his technique over all is what seriously impresses me. The man's feet are just good as his hands! I love it. Other then that, I actually liked the little Moeller demonstration he did with the hands phasing in and out of each other. He played that so smoothy. The man's a machine!! Groove machine.
Claus makes me realize how rudiments are the building blocks of great drumming, all over again. Learning to collapse these rudiments is a great way to add expression and curiosity into your drumming!
@@ClausHessler I may have to do that too! For years I have wanted to be able to play open hand technique but my God it's hard when you have been leading with your right hand your whole life. The thing is I believe a lot of it is mental and just discipline. You have somehow became one of my favorite players within the first 10 minutes of watching this! 😂 and everybody I listen to can play.

My favourite part is about 20 mins in, where Claus is explaining to Dave about comparing the Pataflafla and the Paradiddle-diddle stickings. It just turns the whole concept of rudiment practice on it's head, as I would have never put those two rudiments together or thought to associate them in that way. It just opens up a whole new world of possibilities!!
I'm down with Claus, but what he's doing isn't anything new or unique (He is very good at it, you'll never hear me say any bad about his abilities). If you want to see the real world of hybrid rudiments (it's what he's doing, hybridizing them) look into DCI drum lines or some of Scott Johnson's vic firth series (especially his Spicy Flam 4's video). Those guys just don't open a world of possibilities with rudiments, the open the universe.
Wow man, never seen anything of Claus before. His playing is so beautiful, relaxed, fluid! Love the part around 15 minutes when he demonstrates the paradiddle diddle in 5 with flat flams. Definitely he is a great educator, easy to follow. I'm getting behind the kit right now! Thanks Drumeo, your lessons are the best :)
I just loved the smoothness that Claus played those very difficult rudiments and how using the Moeler method makes it seem effortless ! Well done ! Second favorite was the handshake with Dave at the end .................. priceless : )
I'm totally inspired by this lesson. He's a phenomenal teacher and breaks down the subject matter in such an articulate way. This has really changed the way that I look at rudiments. The variations of the double drag tap were my personal favorites. Amazing stuff
Top notch drummer! How i never heard anything of him before. The solo at the end is the best i can remember in the Drumeo history, Very musical and percusive and the cymbals, bells and drum set are sounding great. I like that he has bright and dark sounds mixed when in general drummers tend to go all dark or all bright.
Had to pause the lesson and jump on the kit to practise the quintuplets with doubles into septuplets immediately after I saw it, such a sick beat, can't believe how comfortable the transition is once the sticking is down. Brilliant! Will be watching this one a few more times. Thanks Claus and Drumeo! Keep up the good work.

man the part where Claus explain how a simple single stroke triplet can become a paradiddle is amazing, truly amazing!! I always had problem in the past playing fast paradiddles because of the diddle but with this concept you actually exercise the diddle itself.. what a genius!! amazing stuff Claus well done!! :-)
All together, a mind boggling lesson but those are the best ones. Epic solo, & applying the collapsed rudi to the hihat & snare were among my fav parts. I too have been playing open handed, at first just to work on my left hand, but then switching back made me realize that my arms were in each others way, so i kept at it. Thanks!

Great idea to "collapse" the rudiments. Incorporating a specific rudiment across the kit into a specific time signature by flaming and ghosting some of the notes to shorten to your envisioned time signature is fantastic! Never thought about that approach.
Then there is a guy who takes it all to a higher level of maturity and intelligence. His name is Claus! At this stage of my drumming life I thought I heard it all...this stuff sounds SO fresh! Where has Claus been? Just a balanced nice together cat here...great personality...NO pretension in Claus' veins...anti-rock star BS. Rarely does seeing a player for the 1st time make me say, "This guy is one of my favorites!" This guy is one of my favorites! Good time to be alive as a drummer...ironic the music biz sucks so bad...

Thanks for the lesson drumeo! It was really cool learning about collapsed rudiments, but that drum solo was too good to not mention. I loved it when he switched from cowbell to bass drum to hihat with his left foot whilst doing everything else.

any drummer rocking the Kratos goatee is a winner in my book lol! what I've enjoyed most about this is that Claus is a real drum teacher...some people can do complicated things on drums but can not teach it to someone who isn't on the same level as them...although it's a tough subject matter with shrinking rudiments and such I feel like he did an excellent job of simplifying it...I am definitely going to be working on this stuff in my practice time!

The first reaction was a "flight" one - not really much point in trying any more. Fortunately, the lad's attitude and materials he has produced wouldn't let me quit so I switched gears to the "fight" mode (right now I am trying to tame my hands which want to play eights on the snare and backbeat on the hihat after having switched to OHP - frankly, my bandmates do not find it as amusing as I do😁😁😁). I really likes the idea of substituting a 16th note for a flam tap. Thereby creating a quintuplet with a flam inside. That's really original! Sounds so great on fills with that one flam quintuplet in there!
Claus is such a great Drummer. I saw him before at "Drums only" in Koblenz few month ago. My favourite parts of the lesson are Claus' explanations how he works with rudiments. He is one of the greatest teachers of today!!
Yes! I'm always happy when i discover an awesome drummer who leads with both hands like myself. To me it can feel impossible at times, it feels good to be proven wrong.
Personally, I loved the explanation of the bell pattern played at the beginning of the opening song. This is the kind of lesson I could spend months studying. The overall concept is fairly simple, but the permutations are endless, and Klaus is a joy to watch. Former Drumeo member, will probably resubscribe in the near future. I love moeller Techniques so this video was great! My favourite part of this video was the part where Mr.Hessler explained triplet moeller technique with some real groovy accenting. 41:17
My favorite part of this video is when he stretches out the double drag tap into the groupings of 7. Gonna try to make grooves with that. Open handed playing is a subject id like to dive into as well!
So much was great but the solo at the end was one of the best I have heard in a long time.. mind blown. There was a section where he was working all the cow bells, man that sounded so groovy. I hope I win the book since I converted to playing open handed a few years ago.
I Iove the little section at around 50:50 where Claus makes the time feel like it's "floating", or swaying around! :-) This is the first time I've heard of him, and I must say: he's a GREAT player! :-D

What hi hat control with the foot! Something we all should practice. It adds so much to soloing and fills.

This was a great lesson very informative and inspiring. man I love the drums.
So much was great but the solo at the end was one of the best I have heard in a long time.. mind blown. There was a section where he was working all the cow bells, man that sounded so groovy. I hope I win the book since I converted to playing open handed a few years ago.

My favourite part was just before the 2nd song when he demoed alternating triplets to paradiddles. Already seeing the benefits with my diddle rudiments when i play Rlrr Lrll to Paradiddles, etc... Thanks Drumeo!
