9/24/24: Prepare Now for Rapidly Intensifying Helene

- Potential Cyclone Nine is expected to organize into Tropical Storm Helene today and then go through a period of rapid intensification tonight through Thursday morning as it tracks into the eastern Gulf. Hurricane watches are now posted for portions of the Florida Gulf Coast, and preparations should be rushed to completion as the storm will be making landfall later on Thursday or Thursday night. This video also discusses inland impacts to the rest of the Southeast and Ohio Valley.

A lady I work with lived THROUGH Ian. Didn't leave because it wasn't projected to make landfall anywhere near her home. She was in her house as it was creaking and roof being pulled off and rain pouring in with ceilings collapsing etc. She was a changed woman after that experience

Remember Apalachicola bay is shallow. Cat 4 is hard to come by compared to destin where the continental shelf is within 50 miles of the shore.

It will probably peak before landfall in this case.
And don't forget south east GA. Just because it may weaken doesn't mean we don't feel the impacts from the wind and rain. Though this all deoens in size, speed, and strength of said hurricane.
I have to drive to Austin TX where I am from for a new job. I am leaving Orlando and was planning to leave Friday morning now it looks like I need to leave Thursday morning

there are varying opinions on the strength. ive been hearing 2s and 3s.
Thing is, the system is crawling along at 8 mph. May speed up to 10 mph, but that is still crawling over those hot waters which gives it a lot of time to strengthen.
That is not the prediction from the NHC. They are not anticipating a Cat 4.

It's going to be a large storm and you'll feel some of it, but not the direct impact expected farther up the West Coast. Tornadoes are also possible.
I live in Brandon Fl just outside of Tampa. We’re only under Tropical Storm watch, do you think it could change to a Hurricane Watch or am I too inland for Hurricane Strength weather?
Right now you are on the cusp. If there's any shift to the right, then yes, you could get an upgrade.

I would never write this off but right now the worst is going to stay east of you by quite a bit. Probably will still be wet tomorrow and Thursday, with locally gusty winds. But not what I originally feared a few days ago.
