I found I was always wrestling with switching synth interface gears. I swore to dedicate to two synths and learn them blind! It’s actually a great strategy. Music productively increased. Now this? I cured my modal 008 lust and finally managed to discard the desire for a quantum. Now This?!?!?! This iridium is light years ahead of anything I’ve ever seen in synthesizers. It’s going to get along great with my babies. And after watching a dozen demos I can rest assured that using it will be a pleasure. Such an incredibly elegant interface. If Waldorf and modal merged? Oh my god Roland, Korg, Yamaha, YOUD be in trouble!
I've sold loads of gear recently and using the Sub 37 as a controller. Do you miss it? This sounds like something else but can VSTs do the same nowadays?

This could readily be programmed as a drum machine with those pads. I have the Sledge 2.0 (Blofeld engine). It’s a very powerful wavetable/sampled drum machine.
I think this is the first synth of the new millennium. Everything else is just impersonating the past. Nothing wrong with the past. But never before have things been as much the way they are as right now. I will be an iridium owner. Already a pulse 2 owner. Waldorf deserves to rise
This synth will be in the studios of everY film composer and sound FX engineer Soon. We’re gonna hear this all over the place the way we did with the Roland D-50 in 1987

Kudos to Waldorf, Rolf Wöhrmann and his team! The Quantum OS is insane! I read that they are working on using the Iridium to connect to and extend the polyphony of the Quantum.
Thought the lack of clarity and more grit is why people preferred Xt over blofeld? I still debate trying to pick up an XT but wonder if worth it with the modern options like this and softsynths like serum.
i was thinking about to typing... wow this sounds like my 30 voice XTK but with extra zing and better FX as i scrolled then read your comment and laughed... i have few synths and nothing is like the XTk, its alien
@@glyn5385 yeah still worth it? or get the iridium instead? looks like it would cover more ground and possibly better more modern interface but would also rather something that feels organic rather than too "Vst". Some say the XT is still not that easy to program even though it has a lot of knobs - definitely don't want to use any software editor for hardware!

I posted her 2 years ago promising I would be an iridium owner. I bought the desktop and sold it. I bought the KEYBOARD iridium and it is by far the most inexhaustible instrument I’ve ever owned and my first synth was in 1987. I’ve own at least 50 over time, It’s a masterpiece. If you do film work……sell whatever you have to and get one. It’s worth every cent!
I'm hearing that the experience of having keys attached to the engine itself far outweigh controlling the desktop version with a separate keyboard? I'm considering the same move.
audio-workshop Holger Steinbrink yeah, I tried it and yep, said only midi controllers/storage supported. I know Rolf has talked about being able to use as a direct storage device at some point so wondered if this was a sneaky extra feature in the iridium os.
Uh, you guys noticed it too :) Looking like we might get VST too! Maybe its presentation by mouse jitters looks like real. For sure they have emulation on mac/pc for development, maybe this is what we are seeying. But really hope with dev background we might get mac/pc VST and maybe iOS editor. ..... I know, I know noneed .... just for coolness of it :)
My mind and ears are blown! I couldn't afford the Quantum but if I sold a kidney or two then just maybe I'd be able to afford this beast of a synth. But who am I kidding? I might need a kidney so maybe I could part with a chunk of my liver...?

I would like to have an Iridium with more rythm and more drums. Perhaps with drum pads. 50 envelops and hundreds of filters are nice, but I want to make music.
As a POC specifically challenged by the times as this has come out I have connected with the beautiful sounds on a deep level. Hopefully someday I can buy my own.
sounds good but really nothing I haven't heard before, polyevelover, wavestation, JD990; just to name a few. I think manufactures are expected to bring out the all new cutting edge synth, but we are approaching the point where new sound design is restricted now on well established synthesis techniques, I love Waldorf stuff; owning a pulse1 & Micrwave1 but I want to hear a new product that sounds completely different to anything else.
It's kinda hard to do something like that considering just how many synths there are. The last really unique-sounding and operating synth I noticed was the Lyra 8. Also, I own a Wavestation and this Iridium sounds a lot more high-fidelity and "cleaner" than the Wavestation, which sounds lo-fi by comparison.
Are you familiar with the Vector Synth from the Czech Republic? I just bought one, it took about a week for them to make it and 3 days(!!? !!) to get to Wisconsin (fedex)

I'd spend at least a year playing with this before i used it for actually making music on it. so good it's scary!
