I like that Mel is willing to configure the coilovers to their maximum potential - and allow the end user to make everything else accommodate that travel. The right way to do it!
You just created a solid high speed trail runner and not just a crawler. The ability to do both in one vehicle is seriously impressive. Well done! Scott
Been looking at coil over kits for my 2dr JL. This kit looks good but clearly the most impressive part of this video is those two beasts lifting the 37s over their heads to mount on the Jeep.
Wow, just wow, Eddie. I have been waiting for this since Mel announced it at EJS last year. So awesome to see you do an install at their shop. This is my dream suspension! Mel and The EVO Team, no words... Kudos to Cindy for the great editing.
Your JK's changed my idea of what kind suspension I wanted under my rig. Once again you have shown just how awesome they are off road, the flex is over the top. I think of those old films of Jeeps going through their paces for the Military, and your Jeep flexed out sitting on rocks almost the size of those MB's. Very cool!!
That is absolutely a work of art there. You have knocked it out of the park with your build so far. I can't wait to see what you have coming up next. It looks like it drives awesome and it really sounds great too.
Rofl. 5 minutes in and I am sitting here all anxious, that's when i realized it's a basic install of a great kit, But your editing has made it an epic adventure! Thank you
This is my favorite Jeep TH-cam channel. The videography is excellent and the commentary is superb. I am very jealous of the resources you have at hand to assist you in building your Jeeps!!! I’d build my JL exactly like yours if I could! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experiences!
We now need a comparison video of Moby and Jet Lee. I know Moby has a ton more work invested into the suspension, but I think this would work well. I love your videos, and they inspired me to buy a JK. Keep these awesome videos coming.
Eddie, I have had that kit for the past 8 months or so, it is really awesome! Talk to Mel, but I would highly recommend putting limit straps on. It will flex so much it will put a lot of outward stress on the rear long arm brackets and will start pulling the welds off of the frame. My JL scored a 930 on the Metalcload CTI rig with the straps on.
From a spacer lift with adjustable control arms to this. Wow! Love how the jeep has evolved in phases all that there is something for everyone. Great content!
Truth be told, this is where we had always wanted to be but we're glad that we got here in stages. That helped us to learn a LOT about the JL and be able share that knowledge with others :)
In this video, they are 4.75". And, I should note that it is too much for coilovers like this. We had a lot of rubbing issues and we ultimately had to start running wheel spacers to clear things.
@@wayalife hahaha! I ended up selling it and buying a diesel truck, but now I got jeep bug back and would love to get one of the new eco diesel’s, love that torque!
Been waiting on this second half for days lol. Looks awesome I can’t wait to get this kit. I’m running the same tires and I’ve got over 70k miles on them and still rolling
Nice little detour off 395 at Garlock road. So many great places to ride between Randsburg, little lake and Trona. We spend a lot of time riding in that area. Thanks for covering this this long arm/ Coil over kit. Great Vid! One of our 395 trips was right about the same time you guys were on the road! The new pot shop at fort independence was in the same state of construction when we drove through. Of course it's finished now.
What's great about coilovers is that you can always add more pre-load to them or run heavier spring rates. That being said, we typically carry about 500 lbs. of gear and find that our JK with a similar setup does great. We'll need to do more testing with this setup to know for sure if we can leave things as is or make changes to it.
Wayalife That would be interesting Eddie as too often on TH-cam they're testing vehicles without their rated payload (yes most do towing tests ) so for overlanding we don't really get to see how they'll perform "in real life."
@@garthhayward9581 I should note that we brought our JL in to Off Road Evolution with most of our gear in the back, just to help give us set a stance based on it. I would say that we were carrying upwards of 400 lbs. The testing you saw us do at the end of the video was with all that gear in side.
Wayalife here's a question Eddie. If you install new 1 ton+ axles and coil overs with a stronger spring rate and heavier load rated tires what would the increase in GVM become? Would it add 500kgs carrying capacity?
Very nice. Love the full build demo. Helps to get a better understanding of all the pieces that make up an after market suspension kit. Those coil-overs are amazing. I've got my first lift kit on order from Quadratec, a Skyjacker 2.5" kit with dual rate springs and new shocks for our 2016 JKUS. Nothing to crazy, but we learned pretty quickly in Moab that we need a little more lift even for the 3 and 4 rated trails. Have you picked up the Gladiator yet? Looking forward to a walk around and first trail ride video. Safe Travels and God Bless!
I was very happy to see you carrying some speed through the desert trails at the end of the video. You're really going to enjoy all the benefits that a high end suspension kit like this can offer. Wayalife aint no mall crawler!
I really thought those nittos were gonna have a 40 on them! But those 37's still look great. I think they even look better than the coops. But I'm partial to the nittos since I have them in 35 inch on my JL Rubi. You may be the luckiest man alive Eddie. Enjoy
Just wish you could legally do this here in Australia - there are ways around it but you are taking engineering and registering with a new VIN under a new category.
Your Rig looks and performs great.Mel is very attention to details. I'm thinking bringing my jeep to off road evolution. They did a great job on your Rig.
Wow, what an amazing set up. I think your JL looks even better with 37's now than with the 40's. That lift is made of the stuff dreams are made of. I'll be dreaming about it tonight! lol
I like this project. Hopefully I'm not out of line asking what a similar project on a JKU would set me back....just a rough guess would be fine. I'll have to check my piggy bank.
Looks amazing! There’s nothing like opening a set of coilovers for your Jeep! So exciting! Great info from Mel on customizing the suspension ride for your needs. 👍🏻
Anyone have the link to purchase this setup? I am having trouble finding it. I am deployed overseas so that may be the issue, however, a direct link would be great!
The long arms and coilovers cost about $9k. Installation takes about 2 days and labor will be whatever your shop charges for that amount of time. It's far from being the cheapest kit out there but in my opinion, it's the best daily driver kit you can run AND have crazy flex.
Wayalife , thanks, and it is clear, you get what you pay for. My guess is $3K for install and a total of $12K. Not that much when you consider the 65K for a JLUR and what you get. You can spend 3K for just shocks, so 9K for complete long arm kit, shocks and coils seems reasonable to me. Great channel by the way.
Eddie thanks for the great video. So from stock ride height how much of a lift did you get? Show a video of you standing next to it please. I'm looking for a tall lift, old school look, tall big tires. Please and thank you. Your the best!
To be clear, this is a coilover system and really, you can set it to just about whatever height you want. For us, we prefer a low center of gravity and so we've only got ours set to about 3" of lift.
Hello @Wayalife , Questions: With the coil over kit 1. With your 13.5" width tyres, what was it rubbing on... 2. What back spaced off set wheels you have 3. Can the kit be modified slightly to run a wheel with slightly more back spacing 4. What height lift did it work to be from STD 5. Do you know what over height it is from ground to roof line Here in Australia, we need to try to keep the tyre tread inline with the guards Cheers
1. The sidewalls were making contact with the rear sway bar link ends at a full flex. 2. We have 4.5" back spacing on the wheels now and running 1.75" wheel spacers. 3. If you ran 3.5" back spacing, you would not have this problem. You might be able to rethink the sway bar link mounts but that would require fab work. 4. Sorry, not sure what you're asking here. Maybe how much lift do we have it set to? If so, about 4" of lift. 5. 77" to the highest point on the hard top.
You should do a video on coilover adjustments, timing rings, and spring rates. Would be helpful for people new to coilovers since anything searched is slightly garbage material.
I just got my off road evolution stickers for my jeep today ! Cant wait to put them on ,, one on each rear window left and right side .. but its pouring rain gonna have to wait lol
Man, I wish I knew! I'm told it's built but hasn't shipped yet. Had I known it was going to take this long, I wouldn't have gotten a Launch Edition. The whole thing is kind of a joke.
Sorry to hear. Sounds like someone dropped the ball on something that had a lot of potential. Well we will be here whenever it gets there. Until then we will keep checking up on the JL.
Amazing!! How do you feel about these Nittos vs the Coopers? care to do a comparison video?? You guys loved those coopers so much, would love to hear a detailed opinion. thx again !!
If you watch some of our older videos, you will see that we actually ran Nitto Trail Grapplers for years. We still run Coopers on Moby and both are great tires. We wouldn't have agreed to run Nittos just to solve our problem if we didn't think so.
Looks like someone found the line lock feature. Happy to see your latest upgrade. I wished I could have done that setup. However it was not in the cards at the time. I would have loved to see the 40s And 60s. Struggling making that jump. The JLs can use the extra height due to the added width and length over the JK. I saw you had more back spacing than I have which helps I am at 85"s wide. Nice set up. Surprised it took so long. Happy wheeling. OlllllllO
The lift didn't change anything. Bigger tires with an aggressive tread does. With mud terrains, we've seen a drop in MPG and with 5.13 gears, we average about 13 mpg.
@@wayalife not to bad on mpg with all that y'all have done to the JLUR I think i may go with a 2.5 maybe 3 inch lift but my JLUR is manual shift I going say there would be a big driffrents in mpgs with the auto and manual
WOW!!! That is an awesome upgrade. JEEP: Just Empty Every Pocket...lol. Great shot showing the stability of the coil overs when you came flying by the camera on that dirt road. Bad-ass!!!!
We're still running Cooper STT Pros on Moby. We've run Trail Grapplers in the past and thought they were good too. Always happy to run Made in the USA tires :)
Wayalife how would you compare the Trail Grappler to the STT Pro? I just installed a set of 37” Ridge Grapplers and love them so far as a hybrid but not sure if I want to go back to a mud-terrain. Weighing options for next set at the moment. Mike
So, the Trail Grapplers have a longer tread life and for me personally, I think they're a bit quieter on pavement. The STT Pros hook up way better on the rocks but seem to have less tread life. It doesn't matter that much to me but the Trail Grapplers tend to have a radial pull to the left where as the STT Pros do not.
I said it in the first vid of this install...your video editing is great, and the skills of the mechanics is amazing...oh and the $7K price of the lift...OMG!!! VERY NICE! Cheers from Denver CO!
donn walgamuth I never said it was. Check all the comments here and you will see that I’ve always stated it cost about $9k plus 2 days of labor if you need it installed.
Wayalife, thanks for the clarification. That’s why the ? Still seems very reasonable for the quality. Thanks for the quality channel and great info for those of us just trying to educate ourselves on building a Jeep. Keep it up!
Oh yeah, this isn't the first set of Trail Grapplers we've run and yes, they have a radial pull to the left. Maybe the one thing I really don't like about them. Otherwise, they're a good tire.
Still running Coopers on Moby. They're both great tires and Made in the USA. If you watch our older videos, you'll see we used to run Nittos for years. If I had to give an edge to one, I'd have to give it to Cooper being that they hook up so much better on the rocks.
Beautiful mod but very expensive. What I am curious about the coil over set is how durable are they as I have no experience with coilovers? It definitely looks badass!
Amazing... I have a feeling those long arms and coilovers are in my future. I'm also really curious how you like the Nitto's after you've wheeled with them for awhile
If you look at some of our older videos, you will see that we've actually run Nittos before and for years. They're a good tire and it's the only reason why we were willing to go back to them.
@@wayalife It's funny, I think I've seen pretty much all your vids.. Just didn't notice the Nittos before. As always, Love watching the Jeep porn you create.

Hello, I'm Hossam from Tunisia. I love everything you say, my dear brother and friend
Wow, thank you
They weren’t kidding about long travel wow
Yup, 15" of it. That's one inch more than what we have on Moby with his DTD. Best part is that this things rides and handles GREAT on pavement too :)
WOW!!! That is an awesome upgrade. JEEP: Just Empty Every Pocket...lol. Great shot showing the stability of the coil overs when you came flying by the camera on that dirt road. Bad-ass!!!!
The best part is that it rides and handles that good ON pavement too :)
Those guys know what they are doing 🤘
Yup, the guys at Off Road Evolution are awesome.
It looks awesome. One day I will be able to do more then live vicariously through you guys. Maybe when the kid goes to college :)
Be great if you could join us out on the trail some day :)
@@wayalife that would be awesome.
Great addition and install.
I was surprised to see you go back to the Nitto Trail Grappler, I thought you were Cooper STT Pro’s all the way now.
Mike
Wayalife perfect. That’s the exact kind of feedback that I was hoping for.
Thank you for replying.
Mike
What was the total cost of the whole coil over job and new tyres? The Jeep look amazing!!!
The suspension setup cost about $9k. Tires will set you back another $2k.
@@wayalife That is a steep price bill... but the suspension operates well on the rough road surfaces.
I said it in the first vid of this install...your video editing is great, and the skills of the mechanics is amazing...oh and the $7K price of the lift...OMG!!! VERY NICE! Cheers from Denver CO!
Thank you. We really do appreciate it and we're so glad you enjoyed the videos :)
Wayalife no way that they lift is only 7k??
donn walgamuth I never said it was.
Keep it up!
Eddie. What Springs did the kit come with. Front and rear. If you could let me know. Thanks
Sorry, I wish I could tell you but this was done a long time ago and we have since sold this Jeep.
Looks awesome! Have you noticed whether your trail grapplers have a slight pull left?
Oh yeah, this isn't the first set of Trail Grapplers we've run and yes, they have a radial pull to the left. Maybe the one thing I really don't like about them. Otherwise, they're a good tire.
Wow this is a nice set up. Thank you for sharing
You bet! So glad that you're liking what you see :)
Coopers are gone? What did you guys enjoy more?
Still running Coopers on Moby. They're both great tires and Made in the USA. If you watch our older videos, you'll see we used to run Nittos for years. If I had to give an edge to one, I'd have to give it to Cooper being that they hook up so much better on the rocks.
Thanks so much for responding have seen almost every video. Look forward to your content. And I appreciate the input on what you prefer.
Beautiful mod but very expensive. What I am curious about the coil over set is how durable are they as I have no experience with coilovers? It definitely looks badass!
Coilovers are made to take abuse so they're very durable but they do need to be serviced on a regular basis to keep them functioning like new.
Dam mate that is so sick, I need to get a jL in my life
Thanks and I think you'd like a JL :)
Whats that pop at 18:22? Binding?
Coil catching the timing ring and then slipping by.
LOL - I guess it's been a while. Off the top of my head, here's a video with us running Trail Grapplers th-cam.com/video/5bo6ZdzotGI/w-d-xo.html
I want this lift kit, how much is the installation
Your jeep is tricked out, love it
Thank you :)
What is the name of the company that did all the work on your JL? I have a 2019 jlu and I want to get the same work done. Thanks
Off Road Evolution in Fort Mohave, AZ
Just curious if you’re going to upgrade the brakes on the JL.
Maybe it's just me but I haven't felt a need for an upgrade. Compared to the JK, the JL brakes are outstanding.
Someday Eddie, someday! But for now, I'm gonna have to stick with my 3.5 Metalcloak until I can afford that awesome lift. Congrats to you both.
Thank you. Hope you get to this point sooner than later.
I'm so jealous!!!! I need to move to the west coast. Another awesome video! Are you thinking of running a bigger tire?
Would love to run 40's but really need bigger axles first. For how we play, we'll break what we have for sure and that based on past experience.
Great job guys!
Thank you :)
