What Do Airports Charge Airlines To Park Overnight?

- As soon as an aircraft is parked at the gate, several handlers and vehicles approach the aircraft from all directions. From cargo handlers and catering personnel to waste and fuel services, commercial aircraft rely on an army of individuals on the ground. The airlines pay for these services as part of the airport fees.
Fees include various costs associated with landing and using facilities and personnel as part of the flight operation. These costs also cover the time the aircraft occupies the terminal gate (or an offsite ramp) as well as fuel cost.
Just like parking your car at the airport, parking an aircraft incurs a cost as well. Today, we explore how much airports charge airlines to park overnight!

Cheaper than parking my car
Yeah, I can relate 😂😂
Y’all need to pay to park?
Yes. I am surprised by how low they are, actually.
Kinda makes sense that they're low. No one wants to raise them, because that would discourage airlines from servicing said airport.
I was expecting thousands per night.
It really just depends on the airport and also the airline the major hubs. The hub carrier usually doesn’t pay anything for parking at their hub.. they bringing so much landing fees, gate rental in just general business for defenders in the airport
Same
LOL 😂 same
Pricing starts at 2:30
Thank you
Ty
Thanks
Thank you so much.
FRA charges based on how close you want to park to the terminal. Just like P1 and P20 for cars
In MUC P20 is the nearest one to the terminal
They’ve already paid $50k to land so I guess the parking can’t be too expensive
Based on my ticket price I thought it'd be much higher. Just like my ticket, with all the extra fees - 1st bag, 2nd bag, sitting fee, using the bathroom fee - I suppose adding fuel, restocking the victuals & cleaning fees add up exponentially. Or at least more than just the parking fee.
Wow, maybe I should park my car on the airfield where it is cheaper.
Many hub and spoke airlines overnight their aircraft at spoke airports (non hub). The next morning it restarts the banks of flights at the hub. The flights from the spoke will be filled with passengers who are connecting at the hub, therefore making it economical to pay the parking fees.
Sydney Airport has noise curfews. In some circumstances planes would have no choice but to park overnight until the next day when flights resume.
All airports do
@@justing42incorrect, many airports operate 24/7, including Melbourne and Brisbane which are also on Australia’s east coast.
@@paulorocky yeah at Singapore Changi Airport, I've arrived at 3am once, hung round the airport until the trains started operating.
I was expecting way more expensive
When I visited South America, I was wondering why would the airlines park their planes overnight rather than turn around and fly back to the United States or Europe. It made zero sense financially if the planes are parked during the day then take the return flights back when the planes between United States and Europe are shuttled back and forth with short turn around at the aeroports.
I have doubts about the accuracy of your pricing. I think it’s much higher for commercial aircraft. And Seattle is very expensive. Like many thousands to overnight. Which is why some airlines will ferry out and overnight at Boeing Field, then return to KSEA the next morning and pick up pax.
So parking my car at Schiphol airport is more expensive than parking my plane. Good to know.
I wonder how much airlines paid for parking when all Boeing 737 MAX were grounded ?
They parked them in the desert
Don't forget during covid, many airlines were grounded because of the lockdowns, maybe the government helped by bailing them out of it because the airlines weren't making any money
@@justing42 Victorville, CA, to be exact. Same place during Covid.
Landing fees, hanger fees, ramp fees, overnight fees, taxi fees, fuel fees.
But do you have to tip the Valet ???
Thank you for sharing our industry.😊
Shannon international has free parking from 23.00 to 06.00
Good, I'm bringing my 747 over there.
The parking fees are such a small portion as they want to attract more parking. Same with trucking, if the engine isn't turning, you aren't earning. So, being that spot they use for RON is hard to come by in volume.
Landing fees in GA are also a problem as many pilots eschew thjese fees, and simply don't pay unless they actually use the FBO on site, who buries the cost of the fee into fuel surcharges, towbar surcharges, etc. It's the fee for a fee on a fee fee that adds up.
I thought it was going to be like 10k
Average prices are relatively low because so many aircraft park at the outer end of the spokes at provincial airports, following traffic demand patterns.
Spoke my words...I'm actually shocked at how low the fees are😮😮
The highest fees are likely at London City Airport due to the very li mited space avaliable.
And that is why Ryanair goes to Luton and Stansted.
Sorry, I was too distracted by the sights of the gorgeous A380s ❤
Imagining that AN124 stuck in Toronto for nearly 2 years now....
Sad thing is, there will be no one to pay the fee if and or when it is ever released!!
Who's this An124? From Ukraine?
@@lcfflc3887 No. It is owned by Russia.
I'm surprised it doubles over 5 days instead of reduces for longer terms.
Im guessing airports discourage long term parking because it reduces the flow of traffic to that airport
Thanks for featuring CAP aircraft!
It seems too low but good for us. Otherwise they would have charged more for the tickets. Really I am stunned. Thanks for letting us know. Be blessed.
Any idea of what airport has the “pettiest” fees? I know some facility out there pushes the limits on charges.
I am surprised... used to think they were about £1000 20 years ago.
Love the cover photo! Thank you simple flying 😍
That's surprising.
The landing fee cost the most, so it’s not really that cheap to park.
You mention that long term parking costs more per day, did this apply whilst airliners were parked up during COVID and after the WTC attack?
These scenarios are usually involved by Force majeure . There is no fees or penalty in this case.
They parked them in the desert in DROVES
These rates are lower than the parking garage fees in lower Manhattan.
I don’t think they sound too high at all. Cheers!
I miss Alitalia 🇮🇹 ❤️
So when parking at Sydney Kingsford Smith it cheaper to park with the planes instead of the parking lot
They are quite expensive, especially if stayed for many nights.
I love noosa yoghurt while I watch your clips
I was expecting at least $10,000 for the a380
What if you don't pay ?.....do you get booted or towed ?....to the city impound lot ?
The parking fees are more reasonable than what the parking garages (for cars) charge here in NYC! 😮
I’m shocked 😳, thinking they paying $3-5k per night.
I presume where there are "branded" hubs at airports, those airlines pay significantly less. Eg Emirates in Dubai, and BA at Heathrow T5?
Yes, it's shocking that fees are so low, I was thinking thousands
Yes, I am surprised. The landing fee must be outrageous.
Interesting info
I've paid more than that to park my single engine Cessna at LAS.
Yes I thought the charges would be considerably higher.
What are the prices if any if its the airlines hub?
Does the airline have to tip the valet who parks the aircraft?
I'm surprised by how little information there is in this video!
I thought it must be 1000 dollars for two hours, considering the huge size of aircrafts. But yes, it is the customers who pay for it by way of tickets.
I thought parking fee would cost 1million or greater than that 😂
Yes. I thought they would be much higher. Former FE.
What ? Looks like car parking fees in down town new york
If the airport is not really active overnight, would they still send the plane far from the terminal? I think that in Athens the overnights from Europe park at the terminal. At least in the winter
The flights first out are parked at the terminal with some space for early morning arrivals.
Thats damn cheap lol
Cheaper than parking some cars😂
Most flights park far from the gates depending on how their airlines are treated in the host countries
Yess, surprised how low the fees are.
atlantic aviation charged us 900 to park for 18 hours in Vegas
Car parking in Manhattan is way more expensive than parking planes at the airport:)
Cheaper than parking my car in Seattle
Are helicopters charged for helipad
Dam that's less than the cost to park you car in Toronto 😂 I bet it's the same in most large cities
Seems reasonable to me !
Who has to climb up to put the ticket on the windshield if they don't pay
Are aircraft still allowed to use reverse thrust to back away from the gate?
I think in general, it is discouraged. There may be exceptions from time to time, but I have not heard of it being done for some time now.
No…that went away years ago
The last planes I remember doing it regularly were the 727s.
That’s waaaaaaaay cheaper than I thought. I figured it would be in the thousands.
I don’t believe these are so cheap. Canadian airports like Toronto Pearson or Montreal Trudeau.
That’s much cheaper than I thought
The price really hit me surprised 🤣🤣
Cheaper than overnight car parking in New York!
It's cheaper than parking in New York
I thought parking charge would be 1million dollar in the first place😮
I'm quite surprised at price variables.
Parking your car at most airports will cost you ~$20 per day.. Weird..
more like $30 to $40 especially at Sydney Australia
I wonder how accurate the figures are?
Truck stop parking charges.
Not all are that cheap toronto intl airport is one of the most expensive in the world
I thought this price is for per minute.
It's still cheaper than parking your car in NYC.
Russian Antonov AN124 has been sitting in Toronto since Feb 27 2022 .... I don't think they're getting it back that's gonna hurt ! lol
Relevant portion of this video starts at 2:27.
Were calling to reach you about your planes extended warranty
This video is completely inaccurate. If you go to the airport websites they actually showcase all the fees hourly. And it doesn’t range from $29 it starts from hundred’s hourly and is thousands overnight.
You didn't address the landing fees that are paid prior to any long term parking fees at the airfield. They can be much higher than parking.
Validation at airport restos by the pilot not honored?? 😢
not gonna lie, i’m surprised how cheap they are i thought it’s was gonna be like 1k
I thought it was more expensive
Jeez get to the question
1% of my guess. Cheap
Wow
Parking is cheap. Thought it would be in the 1000's per day.
cheaper than car parking in the airport.
Low?
No wonder flying is becoming so expensive
i tought its higher
Cheaper then parking my car in manhattan 😂
