- Lt. Col. Slade has held command positions in the Army and the Air Force and received the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star, and fourteen combat air medals. He attended Utah State, where he earned a BA and was commissioned as an Army Aviation second lieutenant. He's also earned an MA in aviation instruction. Brian currently serves as a lieutenant colonel for Air Force Combat Search and Rescue.
He is the author of "Cleared Hot," Lessons Learned about Life, Love, and Leadership While Flying the Apache Gunship in Afghanistan, which is now available.
I will forever be amazed at Andy's ability to carry on a conversation while simultaneously keeping a bulleted list in his head of the topic at hand. They will ramble off topic for 15 mins and Andy will always know wtf they were talking about. 😂
I can’t talk for 1 minute without remembering the main point, although I ate too many breaching charges so that might have a slight impact.
His ability to follow a conversation is uncanny.
Apache pilots fly with one eye looking outside and one eye looking in the screen I front of their eyes. They can multi multi task
Same here, he’s a natural. Perfect interviewer.. Bet he was a rad and fun Team-mate.
Happy Monday everyone. This week has to be a good one... It's starting on my Birthday... 48 years young.
This has to be the best "Quick Wit" interview I have heard. I think Andy has met his match.
totally, i think Brian out Andy'd Andy when he answered "Where did you start" with "at the beginning"!, lol
Jariko is a close second
If you're referring to former military owned podcasts,I'd agree Andy is great at it.If you're referring to podcasts across the board,Theo Von has my vote & is at the top of the list on wit.
Episode 263. Time stamp 1:34:00. Your welcome.
Another great story. Definitely a relatable message I understand, being in the Fire Service for the last 20yrs…
I’ve only been in the fire service for ten years, but I feel the same way…this show and Shawn Ryan’s show have been such eye openers for me
Late to the party but this has been the best episode I’ve seen. Thanks gentlemen.
Man, this one hit home, in so many different ways! Thank you for what you’re doing, Andy! Thank you, LTC, Slade, you have no idea how this book and what you are trying to do impacts people/ veterans every day! Thanks Brother
Great Podcast, I could listen to 5 more hours of this. Thank you both for your service and the great stories! 🇺🇸💪😎
Sir, I don’t know if senior leader ever thanked you for saving him. You did a commendable action and saved a life. He didn’t have to bear that burden alone. We need senior leaders like you in the military.
This is probably one of the best conversations I've heard over a podcast. It really felt, at times, like I was listening to a couple of buddies talking shop over beers. Subbed.
Thank you LTC Brian Slade for your service 🇺🇸 your message content is a Bingo. Andy again Epic 👍 Thank you
Your podcast makes mondays suck less
Absolute fact🙌
Especially Monday mornings!😂
Kinda crazy to see a pilot from my old unit on the podcast. Small world for sure. Hung out with the chief WO, who was his front seater that was shot, during our pre-mob for OEF at Ft. Hood in 07. Super cool dude!
2 engines, dual operators, dual controls, and an alternative steering device. That's an awesome mochine.
The back and forth in this was just glorious, so many "Alrights" ha ha
Gentleman, this was an amazing conversation! Thank you both.
Great guest!
Thx.
Good morning y'all have a great week and stay safe
Like the Huey pilots in nam!!! Gangsters!💪🦅🇺🇸💯!!!
This podcast episode can be summed up in one word; badass. Lt. Col. Slade is the man you want in the right place flying the tank in the air. Words cannot describe the appreciation this country owes this man and his fellow pilots. Was interesting to also hear some of Andy's personal experiences that got discussed in more detail in this episode.
Thank you.
This is the best interview you have ever done.
@clearedhot we love ya bud. Thanks for what you do!
I just wanted to thank you Andy for being so funny. I wouldn’t have gotten through last night if it wasn’t for you. Thank you
Thank you, gentlemen. Thank you for your service, and thank you for a podcast and conversation that is engaging, interesting, and fun. As always
This is definitely without a doubt one of, if not, my favorite podcast you’ve done. Great conversations
fantastic episode, phenomenal guest. I'm going to listen to it again. And yes, Andy, Newborns are boring, I agree.
so cool to watch their interaction... "speed is a tactic"
Another hero ! Great pod
We went in September 30th. No problems. No lines. Closed the west entrance 10/1 for the season. It was awesome
HOLY FUCK! inserted graphic at 1:05! Andy's young Jamie is using the force! 🤣👍
Ha good catch
@@MrDwhite4444 at first I thought it was an ad popping up and I was like "I pay for this shit!!" then "oh, OOooooh! Nice!" :D
Great guest and interview.
Awesome podcast gentleman! 🇺🇸 👍
Thank you!
This was a good one the jokes were on point.
This was a great one, Great stories and great content. Nice work!!
Last comment I swear. I remember Andy talking about how he felt there was maybe a correlation to how trauma effects you and how much ability you had to effect outcomes. So an example I recall is something like because he was a SEAL they always felt aware of what was happening, and knew that their actions could effect the outcomes. Where as if you are are something like a comms guy, or taking IDF, or even rescue you are experiencing outcomes that are not only beyond your shaping, but many times inevitable. idk, maybe my swiss cheese brain is failing me.
Great guest and story.
Absolute best!
I work in Mountain Home. Crazy to hear that tiny town on a huge platform. Sorry you had to live there 😂
"millstone or cornerstone?" Good way to put it.
Definitely one of the best Cleared Hot episodes if only in terms of conversation. Well done. Fix the audio only version. The last two episodes skip around.
Where’s the link for the Apache video?
Hello girl. How is everything with you ?
I was hoping somebody could point to way to it as well…
@@billmorton6977 doing ok. Ready for the holidays to be behind me
@@samneedsanap7802 I couldn't agree with you more sweetheart. It's good to hear that you are doing well.
Amazing episode!
Great podcast guys!!!!
Maintainers! Because pilots need heroes too.
Great show guys. 👏
51:30 absolutely True
Why doesn't this have a billion views?
They talk about the whole incident being on camera -- does anyone know if the video is available? Amazing story.
Good morning
2:02:24 that's my morning alarm clock ⏰️ 😴
These two are so sharp at busting balls. Andy is always quick but this guy is right on his level. Aside from that, there is so great messaging and perspective on processing the messed up stuff the happens in war. I wish more military guys could have their ability and mindset. The level of suicide that is happening post careers is so unfortunate and not talked about in the civilian world 😢
Where can I find the video they are talking about in the beginning where his co-pilot was shot?
Where is the footage they are talking about at the beginning? Is it public? Any chance someone could post a link at best, a direction or search word at worst?
Everything is better .. with Cool Whip.
The Gods of war can not distort the frequency of the shadow boxer.-DW master of shadow boxing
Great pod…just FYI, veterans can access National Parks for free and shouldn’t be included in the lottery. I went through this in Acadia NP this past Spring
How do you make us laugh so hard while telling is harrowing stories?
Anyone happen to have a link to the footage they are talking about?
Isn’t it the CCT’s job to coordinate the aircraft in the air?
Yes. They help coordinate close air support and clearing out landing zones.
Morning from the pnw
Morning, from a year later. Also from the pnw.
Anyone know where i can see the original footage from the apache flight?
Yes please!!

Wow Andy I’m sorry about that story on your first time using your fire arms
Ladies & Gentlemen, here are some organizations for Marines, and everyone else. I personally know if you marine, focused nonprofits, but some of them have transitioned into all services.

SHARE CENTER (TBI/PTS) clinic 5th leading tbi clinic in the US.
I spent time in all these places. The tbi clinic (SHARE). I was out there in Atlanta for 4 months trying to learn how to walk, vestibular therapy, all of it. These groups saved my life. Look them up I promise you they will help you.
@28 min mark, why in the hell would the ground crew leave the front seat uncleaned of all the blood…leaving it for the next pilot to deal with?!?
Hahahaahaha CW4 “UUUGGGLLLYYY”.
Dude amazing fucking pod cast.
Can you please get a CCTV airmen on.
Andy’s comment about his divorce really hit home. I was married for 20 years with 4 kids. Had the easiest divorce and maintain a great relationship with my ex. That said, I had a 3 year relationship after that ended badly and has caused me way more misery and stress than my divorce. My friends and family do not understand how this could be. I’m like “I know it doesn’t make sense, but I never wanted to blow my brains out during or after my divorce…” I don’t know what it is, but it just is.
Dude 10mike on a LZ that’s taking affective fire who has a zero pay load there on site for!! Wow!!! Amazing ass story.
He’s exactly right about the Kardashians. Did EP for them for little. Media and everything does crazy things. And the shit OMG
Was a garbage bin on fire … end of boardwalk set up more than concern
Pls don't over edit. Too many cuts. It's hard to watch
FUCKING HILARIOUS! LMAO omg SO FUNNY, GENTLEMEN!
Bro aint no way yall started this like this lol
🌠👍💪
Another great one Andy 🇺🇸👍
Love stumpf and what he does Joe Rogan but different
The editing needs some fixing up for this one.
How so?
I listened through Apple Podcasts and I had times where it would cut the conversation and go back to a previous conversation y’all had. I’ll see if I can get time stamps
@@Zdjiugbr124 Thank you for the heads up, I am working on solving that issue now, it is a platform hosting problem.
Oh I so loved the dive physical. Why do Navy doctors have Pringle cans for fingers???.......Doctor Fat Fingers Will See You Now!!!!
Gotta find a small female Dr. like I did. Purely luck. She did however say "don't be shy" and kicked the inside of my legs to "spread 'em" like an arresting officer. 😷👆
@@michaelmartin96 Oh nice!.......so they do exist?
@@jpdive8664 I did my research. BTW I wasn't joking about her kicking my legs out to the side. I was waiting for her to pull my hair. 😆
@@michaelmartin96 lol. You must cherish that memory. Most of us can only dream of a physical like that
@@jpdive8664 she put so much lube on me, did the examine, then said "there are wipes over there, clean yourself up"
I thought she was going to leave money on the nightstand like I was a little whore. Haha. Violated AF
How was Kardashians omitted from the title?
Carpe doughnut
"what do you think Michael?" No one cares, love Andy but Michael doesn't add anything to the show.
Michael doesn’t seem to care either😂
Happy Monday Mother Stumpfers
I was in red team seal team 6. Class 225. I almost got my ass blown off during operation artichoke.
