Yugiri’s death just hits different than all the other deaths in Franchouchou because she was directly killed/murdered by other humans while the others were unfortunate/cursed accidents.
I love the song ‘Saga Jihen’ and maaann the OST is sooo good. Really like the main melody/OST that we heard throughout this and last episode and the OST around 10:48 - 10:55 gives me chills

In case there was any doubt that Yugiri had a body count.
This context gives a new interpretation of the show's name. Saga itself has ceased to exist but then was remade. Saga is a revenant territory. A zombie land, if you will.

You're right about the bartender (whose name was revealed to be Jofuku in the previous episode, by the way).
He will live as long as Saga continues to exist. As he says, “I am Saga. No, Saga is me,” it's strongly implied that his lifespan and immortality properties are tied to Saga itself. And yes, not only does he get healthier when Saga is well, but he's also able to rejuvenate. It's barely noticeable, but in the Meiji era he was older than his current appearance.
The next episode is going to release even more information bombs that will give another context to certain events that have happened to Franchouchou in their life and death. So be prepared because Jofuku is a crucial character in the story.

My favorite song has finally arrived! This episode made Yugiri go from a character that I really like to my favorite character of Zombieland Saga

Rika Kinugawa (Yugiri's VA) didn't find out about the singing aspect of this role till after she got it. It worried her quite a bit because she had never had a singing role before and her previous "public" singing was karaoke in middle/high school. All the VAs for this show went through singing lessons in preparation. But then, they found out that they were also doing LIVE performances with singing AND dancing! [If you watch any videos of their 2018 performances, it is possible to notice missed/off-key notes and dancing flubs.] After season 1, Kinugawa-san found out that she would be headlining a song for season 2! When they had their live performance after season 2 in 2021, she was so nervous and she says that she doesn't even remember performing her song. She remembers being backstage and going onto the stage, and then the next thing she remembers is being backstage again afterwards!
    I think she's amazing here!!!!

And thus we have reached the end of the most legendary backstories in ZLS. Yugiri easily shot up to my faves, often fighting with Saki for the number 1 spot. Her resolve and courage are beyond ones we could comprehend. She fought and killed in the name of justice but still honored the life of the man she was forced to kill. She protected her friend and accepted being executed in his place so his dream could become a reality. She says it herself, the government is gonna wanna have someone to blame. This incident, and her involvement would most likely never be spoken off again, but she was ok with dying if it meant Kiichi could continue living and working to save saga.
And as we know it worked. Centuries later Yugiri has been reborn to a new age in Saga. Her friend’s dream became true, and now it’s her turn to continue that legacy. With Franchouchou she can create a new legend for Saga and bring a new wave of life into it. That’s Yugiri’s revenge. Carrying the torch of her friend, quite literally with the comb he had given her, she’ll continue to fight for Saga’s life.
The song Saga Jihen, or Saga Incident was very much written in celebration to Saga’s resurgence in the Meiji era. This song was released as a teaser pv way back around the time season 1 had ended, almost as a mini advertisement for what season 2 may have. And we finally get to see it in its full glory. The lyrics very much are in reference to Yugiri’s life as a courtesan but also her time with Kiichi. And while a little fuck, the outfits are designed after the guards that were at war with Yugiri and her comrades back in the day. Times have certainly changed. A peak song to end a peak backstory.
Now because I’m a nerd I must speak about this. Yugiri’s design is way more metal than we give her credit. She’s a natural brunette, and throughout her entire backstory she’s had fully brown hair. But when we see her as a zombie there’s a noticeable red streak along her front in the heart style she wears. This is blood. It is 100% her own blood from when she was beheaded dried into her own hair. And she rocks it with pride. No matter what Yugiri never regretted her decision. She isn’t seeking revenge for her own life but the life her friend worked hard for. And I love it. The next three episodes will certainly be something but it’ll be more aligned with regular zls antics than Yugiri’s backstory antics. I cannot wait

ahhhh.... I love ZLS and have read a lot of stuff about it, but I didn't know about the hair! That's so cool! I love both Saki's and Yugiri's characters and stories! ❤

noooo.... we still need our REVENGE!!! 😂
The main theme of this season is because of failure at the Ekimae Fudosan Stadium (EFS) that occurred at the beginning of the season, we need....
"This is a revenge for fate. A battle to regain our dignity, which has been burned by the flames or irrational fate." [quote from the Zombieland Saga official website]

That bit about how on August 4 1883 banning unilateral executions by the military (meaning the death penalty by decapitation) was added to make Yugiri’s execution even more tragic, as the date of Yugiri’s death was December 28 1882, 8 months before that law was made. If Yugiri had met Kiichi and the events of the Saga Incident happened 1 year later, she might not have gotten executed.
Funny you mention Rurouni Kenshin, because back in Season 1 when the girls was suggesting names for the group, Yugiri’s suggestion was the “Wolves of Mibu”, which was a nickname for the Shinsengumi, mentioning how they visited her brothel all the time (to note: the Shinsengumi were only active in 1863-1869 and Yugiri was actually born in 1863, so this would have been before she became an oiran and was still a child, brothels having children living there do chores for the brothel and the workers).
In addition to how Yugiri knew that the old Saga samurai were going to rebel and enacted her plan by sending a letter to her old friends to keep Kiichi safe, told him the route to escape and stayed behind to be executed as a scapegoat AND kept Koichi’s comb more than a century later, the lyrics to the song at the end “Saga Jihen” made a reference to the escape route Yugiri told Kiichi about going Mitsuse Pass, and the lines preceding it seem to imply Yugiri might have reciprocated Kiichi’s romantic feelings for her.
_“From Mitsuse Pass to Tawarazaka (and beyond)_
_Please come see me, even in hell_
_Even if the wind blows, and must you escape hails,_
_Will you come, or will you not, come here, come now_
_To a sweet and distant eternity_
_Hold me, embrace me, let me sink in your arms”_
Also, the old man bartender’s name is Jofuku. This is significant because the name Jofuku is the Japanese name to real-life ancient Chinese alchemist and explorer Xu Fu who served as a court sorcerer during China’s Qin Dynasty before disappearing at sea and had several legends about him, namely how he went on two voyages to find the Elixir of Life said to grant immortality; heavily implying that our Jofuku is Xu Fu and it’s his Elixir of Life that brought the girls back to life as zombies. Xu Fu was born in 255 BC and disappeared at sea in 210 BC, meaning if Jofuku is Xu Fu, he would be would be 2274 years old in Zombieland Saga current day (Revenge is set in 2019) and during Yugiri’s flashback in 1882, he would be 2137 years old. As for how an ancient Chinese alchemist ended up in Japan, the legend of his second voyage (which was the one where he disappeared at sea, so whether or not it happened is very much unknown) was that he reached a land of "flat plains and vast waters" and decided to stay, teaching the locals various methods of farming, fishing, medicine and other such knowledge and becoming their king; the popular theory being that Xu Fu landed in ancient Japan. Whether or not Xu Fu ever did go to Japan, according to historical texts, the Japanese people credited Xu Fu for new farming techniques, plants and other such knowledge that improved their quality of life, having local worship of Xu Fu through many shrines and temples as the "God of farming", "God of medicine", and "God of silk".
