I flew on one of their L1011's back in '04 as a chartered flight from Houston to Dubai, with a fuel stop in Shannon. Entire plane was economy, a flying cattle car.
The amount of detail you give out is quite amazing it makes me indulge more in watching your videos for example that Dash 8 on the runway and how you mention the take-off and landing runways. Great job!
U should check out Seoul to Jeju island route. They use B777, B767, A330 and even B747s for the 50 min flight. It is the most popular Domestic route around the world
Even when I wasn't fat, my shoulders have been so broad that I encroach into the seat next to me. I guess I'm supposed to be rich enough to fly business class.
I hope you're just making some random comment regarding the weather in general. I hope your comment isn't regarding the video thinking its summer-like weather in western Canada in November/December. Cuz if you do think that then you're stupid.
What a treat to watch your videos. I enjoy seeing new aircraft, airlines, inflight service and different destinations. I really enjoy your format for each video for you consider all aspects of your trip and flight. It really makes it interesting and worthwhile....thanks!
Last winter I was flying back to school in Ottawa from Boston and stopped at Pearson. So many flights from Toronto to Ottawa were cancelled due to the weather. So they joined a bunch of the smaller flights to Ottawa together onto one flight. An Air Canada 767-300er absolutely jammed packed, all Uni students. That was a fun and crazy 1 hour wide body flight :)
i was flying with college students when i went back to pearson from narita tokyo actually, they were on a field trip they went to south korea and japan crazy, right?
I flew on an Air Transat L-1011 back in the day, and theirs were in a 3-4-3 (10 abreast) config, as opposed to most airlines doing a 2-5-2 (9 abreast). Even though I was a teen, I remember it being pretty tight.
There was a time when Air Transat had increased seat pitch and used standard configs (8 across) to match Air Canada's planes because Transat has gotten such a bad "sardine can" image that it was losing market share. But with Air Canada having gone to "charter" configs with 10 across on 777s and 30" seat pitch, it's sad to see Transat have reverted back to their old selves. So when it disapears next year, absorbed into AC, it won't really remove a choice.
I flew Air Tansat a couple of years ago LGW-YYC and YYC-LGW. It was about 8-9hrs in a tight 3-3-3 config but it actualy wasn't that bad. Seats were comfy but narrow, legroom was Ok and crew were lovely. The cabin looks to have been updated since then. The IFE selection is ok but not great for a 9hr flight. I was in 5A btw
I took the A330-200, that exact configuration, from YYC to Amsterdam direct. It was definitely a little tight but I got lucky enough that my row had everyone moved for weight distribution and was able to have the whole row to myself.
I have flown on 3 long haul flights Montreal-Paris and Montreal -Barlcelona .a A310 flight Montreal-Madrid and found the seats in both the A310 and the A330 were fine along with the legroom and the cabin crews excellent.....On the other hand I have flown a Air Canada Rouge flight between Montreal and Barcelona 5 years ago and found the legroom terrible...The drawback with the A310 is that you have to use your own tablet and download there app and there is no inflight entertainment on the seat back.
Thanks for the video Alex. Don't think I would want to fly to or from Europe on that A330-200. Short haul it would be great. Leg room looks great!! The scenery was SPECTACULAR!! Love the mountains in that area of Canada.
Cool trip Alex. Once I flew from Ottawa to Toronto with an AC B767, That was my shortest WB flight and than hopped on another 767 for a 9 hr flight from YYZ > BUD :)
Flew round trip on Air Transat from YVR to London Gatwick on an A330 last year. Its was cheap for a reason. Found my self as were a lot of other passengers standing near the washrooms as the seat was to too small for 9.5 hour flight. Was not a fan of the mood lights, they never shut them off on a overnight flight when i was trying to sleep. The flight crew however was very friendly and attentive.
I really like Air Transat despite their cramped seating. So far, I have flown with family, so we don't mind being squished in the seats together. Especially since you can lift the arm rests in most seats to help spread out :)
Couldn’t agree more we flew from YUL to CYO with transat paid for extra leg room and did option plus and Daniel Vezina meal and didn’t even have any room to eat out meal I’m over 6ft y’all and 230 lbs roughly and I couldn’t even sit comfortably on the 737 it was swapped too 2 weeks prior to our flight in row 1 which I paid extra leg from for I had none! I ate my meal in the gally and had a middle seat as my spouse was sitting beside me and she couldn’t eat unless I moved. Our flight attendant felt extremely bad for us. Our return flight was on the 330-200 and leg room was much better is 14H but the seats again were extreme tight!
Even if I lost a LOT of weight I don't think I would fit in those narrow seats. I used to always book a seat next to my son to get a bit of extra width on long haul flights, but he is getting pretty big now.
Great Video Alex. The 3-3-3 on the A330s on longer sectors isn't great. The legroom is good but its harder to get comfortable with the narrow seats. Their service though is spot on. Maybe you should come to Scotland and try out their A330s. hahaha.
Sadly this particular aircraft has been put in storage as of this year! Reg:C-GUBH Aircraft current age: 17.3 years. First operator was emirates (oct. 2003)
Sat in seat 4H last week. Was disappointed how narrow the seat was. Was also disappointed how far it was from the exit. The only benefit was the extra legroom.
Lovely A330! I was just researching Canadian short-haul routes on an AC widebody last night and here you are today! Best thing I could come up with was YYC-YEG but if you know any that are shorter and/or cheaper, let me know. - Red
Thanks for this trip report of an airline I never knew existed from stateside. Before Thomas Cook Airlines went belly up I got to fly them from Las Vegas to Glasgow on a A330 using 2-4-2 (economy) layout. I thought that was very comfortable. On the way back I was on a Norwegian B787 with 3-3-3 layout in economy, that felt crammed, especially for a 10+ hour flight.. What was the date of this flight? It looks like in the summer or spring, definitely not the fall when this was published. Thanks!
This is probably ok for a short flight. I flew an Air Asia A330 in a 3-3-3 from Kuala Lumpur to Sydney. It was fine as there was no middle passenger in my row. I would've hated it if there was. It was still tight in any event.

Keep up the great videos!
Air Canadas new configurations are just as bad or worse. The 3-4-3 on the 777 is just awful!! I refuse to fly AC for International flights as they have some of the tighest seats in the industry for long haul!!

Alex, I'm flying this plane on Friday, and it's full. I am 5 foot 9 and I have broad shoulders, hoping it's not jam packed.
Looking forward for the A310 video! Do film handheld during take off/landing or do you use a mount?
Handheld most of the time, unless I need a wider angle with the GoPro (on smaller planes usually), in which case, yes it's mounted!

Yuck. That’s only one seat away from 747 configuration.
I always liked the 2-3-2 of the 767 the best. Only one middle seat per row.
Bartonovich52 UIA and Air Italy do a 2-4-2 in their 767s
A330's have 2-3-2 at the back... Not looking forward to AC Rouging Transat into the ground. Transat a330 is a nice ride.
"I always liked the 2-3-2 of the 767 the best. " But there is 2-4-2 configration in 767 :-)
I’m very very very tall and it’s not only leg and head room...it’s foot room too! Not sure how big your feet are Alex but I never have room for mine!
