I've used Air Transat several times between London and Montreal and never had a bad experience. Their prices aren't always as competitive as they used to be when everything is factored in and I always compare with BA/Air Canada. But on my last trip to Canada in April the deciding factor for me was that they are now flying narrow body aircraft on the Montreal route, which rightly or wrongly didn't appeal to me for a seven hour flight. Thanks as always.
Hey, thanks for the information. Do you know if they have strict policy of checked baggage at Gatwick airport. I'm also trying to book flights from London to Montreal.
We always flew Air Transat from Vancouver to PV and now they don't fly from here anymore. Always loved our flight and never had a problem with them. One time we were going to PV in February and there was something wrong with the plane. We were 4 hours delayed but they gave us a coupon for food in the airport. Better safe than sorry. Miss AT. Thank you for the video
I have travelled a few times on Air Transit to Rome, Mexico and the Dominican Republic and always had a good experience. The A320 planes travelled on time and offered Business Class seating for a little extra. The vacation packages including Gran Bahia Principe resorts were excellent value.
They nickel and dime you for everything and force you to make decisions when your mind is already preoccupied with so many other things. I liked it better in the past when you would pay a higher fare but you knew everything was included giving peace of mind. The way they do airfare these days is dishonest in my view. Thanks for your honest review.
I am lucky to have Avelo airlines open near my home. Much like Transat, it has the lowest airfare for where I want to go and it saved me last Christmas!
Nice review of AT. I certainly would fly them if the destinations and price point beats my usual AC flights. Delays are the norm so any carrier can delay departure so plan connections with lots of time or go direct even better.
I checked this Airline out but they are quite limited in the cities they fly in and out of. Nothing out of Boston Mass but in time they hopefully will expand to other popular cities. Good to know about this Megan ! By the way I was the first to view your video today. Never once in all this time have I been a first in anyone's videos
I went with them once to Europe. It was OK for a cheap airline. I resented being charged like 24Euro for like 1 kg overweight. That was my wake-up call to become a reformed traveler. The other time I went with them to FL. It wasn't as bad because we were more conscious of the rules.
I love Air Transat. I always fly with them whether it’s down South or to Portugal. I have never had a problem with them and the only delays I’ve ever experienced was of 15-30 minutes max. They have been on schedule for most of my flights throughout the 40+ years I’ve been travelling with them. I’m not sure if they are still partnering with the Children’s Wish Foundation. Years ago they’d ask passengers if they’d like to give their spare change or a small donation to the cause. They’d fly sick children for free on a dream trip (can’t remember if it was to Disney). The only thing I don’t like is that when it’s almost time to board, sometimes (not always) they ask passengers to place their suitcase horizontally into a small metal rectangle. If it doesn’t fit including the wheels, they’ll ask you to check it. I had measured all dimensions including the wheels and the total was under their total inches allowed. To Europe and back there is a free meal included and entertainment screens at the back of each seat. I just got back from Punta Cana. The flight there and back, no meal was included. The trip to Punta Cana was with Air Transat airbus A330 with entertaiment screens on each seat. The flight back to Montreal was an Airbus A320 with NO screens anywhere in the plane. I do recommend Air Transat. They’re a great airline. Thank you Megan for all your great videos! 🙏🏻🤗🇵🇹🇨🇦
I have flown them to Europe once or twice. Wasn't bad. I loved the back row on the Airbus because it was only two seats together for my spouse and I. Although granted sometimes no recline and could be a bad smell.
Ive used air transat 5 times from uk to toronto, and never had a delay or bad experience, as others have said the prices used to be alot cheaper but seem to be creeping up inline with more expensive branded airlines.
Low cost carrier, Wizz, only allows a personal bag. Any carrier on will be additional cost. If you indeed to fly Wizz more than once a year, you can purchase a Privilege pass that allows personal and carry on. The pass is good for one year for one person.
Actually, 10 kg is higher than many airlines. Swissair lists a limit of 7 kg each for your personal item and carry-on, and Finnair's information states that the combined weight of your personal item and carry-on cannot exceed 8 kg. While your bag might not be weighed on an outbound flight, it can be weighed on your return flight. I had that happen a few years ago on Lufthansa. Thanks for the helpful information, Megan! (I wish Air Transat flew from more places in the US. Right now it flies from 3 cities in Florida and 2 in California.)
I think with any airline, if you go to the counter for any reason (even to just get another copy of your ticket) they likely will ask you to weigh your bag, which is why I would use a kiosk and not the counter, even if it means waiting a little bit.
Will fly from Toronto to Rome in May ‘25. And I’m considering this airlines because it’s $400/pp cheaper than air Canada. I’m hoping we don’t encounter hassles
I flew with Air Transat in April to Cancun. I was flying from Atlantic Canada, and both our flights coming and going from Mexico did NOT have seat back entertainment. The flights were fine, but they certainly were not was you describe as cheap. We paid over $2000 for two people. I would fly with Air Transat again and have in the past before as well. They aren't any better or worse than any other Canadian carrier. Another note is the posted size of a carry-one for Air Transat is an inch smaller than other airlines at maximum of 20 inches.
I flew with Air transat 5 years ago Toronto to Portugal and my flight was delayed for 12 hours! I had another flight to catch and barely made it, despite giving a good gap between flights.
I flew Air Transat in 2017 when I went to Paris from Toronto and returned from London to Toronto. Price was cheaper than Air Canada and both flights served meals and drinks. I'd fly again as long as it is cheaper than Air Canada or Westjet.
Like I said last time, as an AuDHD (Combination of Autism & ADHD), is that I chose my seat at time of booking. I will look into this airline but it does not service Copenhagen
Not sure how they pick which planes on which routes but my Air Transat flights had great entertainment! Guess it is a little hit and miss! Always good to have your own back up entertainment!
I just ran into the problem with lithium batteries for mobility devices. Lufthansa’s allowed batteries is about 1/2 of what EuroWing allows and so far EuroWing seems closer to what I’ve experienced before. 🤔☹️ So basically I’m not being allowed to carry the spare battery I’ve carried on 6 previous flights mostly international with one or both airports being Non US.
One day I was getting ready to book a ticket on Expedia and a thought crossed my mind. What if I didn't click on the cheapest flight available? Ever since, my flying experience has improved drastically.
Personally i DO always pay for seating. I just flew from Europe to Tokyo with Emirates the 1st time (Emirates really is as amazing as they say 😅), i payed for the aisle seat upfront, however during online checkin i did check the seats and the "free seat selection" literally only had the middle seats left. So if u are tall like me and want extra legroom...best be sure. On these long flights many pay for seats, so if u wait till the end...best seats are simply gone. Great review though 🎉
Megan, did you buy your ticket directly from the airline or through a third party agency. As I found out with Singapore Airlines, they will not deal with you directly in case of any problems, even problems brought on by the airline.
Great experience with air transat Please question about passport Canadian own canada passport travel to italy about week then back to canada passport issue less the 6 month is okey or I faced issue?
Flew from Brussels to Montreal and back on the a321 xl, economy. Never again. Checkin went wrong, no leg space, 1 meal and you had to pay for alcohol. Super warm inside, during nightflight super cold, no pillow, ... for 1000 euro this no service
Air Transat sounds like they are following the same sort of business plan that Midwest Airlines came up with back in the ‘70’s before they went belly up….Low fares, nice plane accommodations, decent food, and treating their flyers like folks, not cattle. We took many pleasant vacations on Midway…and it was so much easier to get to Midway airport than to struggle to get to O’Hare.
Just flew from Montreal to SFO. They were 30 minutes early! There was an odor issue when boarding the plane. They announced it was a maintenance issue, and the filter needed replacing. Hmmm. Not performing regular maintenance? The odor went away mostly after the plane took off. Overall, it's not a bad experience. I would consider them in the future. But not my wife😂 She has a sensitive nose and had a mask on the entire flight 😢😅
Does anyone have a Amazon link for a personal bag and carry on that fits their requirements. Family of six going mid august Orlando to Montreal to Halifax
Flew Air Transar yesterday, Zagreb to Toronto. The plane was 80% EMPTY. This was a surprise as during online check in it only showed a fw seats available. Imagine my edlight when I realized thaat noone was seating to my right. The crew told us that after takeoff we could move around, almost everyone ended up with a row to themself. The food was meh but I don't expect much from airline food. Considering the price, I definately would fly Air Transat again.
The Air Transat website lets you enter your flight or intended flight to see the carry on limits. I have attached the link below. Hope it is helpful. www.airtransat.com/en-CA/travel-information/baggage/weight-dimensions
...this airline stole over a thousand bucks from me on my return flight from Paris. I got so screwed and had to walk to a hotel along a highway outside the airport and spend another grand to get home. The on-phone staff were HORRIBLE to deal with
Ah, yes, you must have flown with this carrier when you paid a surprise visit on your parents in Portugal. That was very sweet of you, Megan. You mentioned your father's age in that earlier video, which I still find almost unbelievable, for a most obvious reason. I would definitely try Air Transat mainly because I see Porto, a place I have always wanted to visit, as one of their destinations. On this side of the pond, however, they do not serve my home airport, MSP, not even close, unfortunately. So, it seems like their limited network might be an impediment for many, at least it is in my geographical area.

Air Transat is a budget airliner, but with fares that are similar to legacy carriers. Many times, they are only slightly cheaper than AC for example.
