    Cory, I admire your layout! LMAO I laughed so hard when you said "with a bit of good music and your favorite beverage you'll find...., it still sucks." But I'll tell you, I really love your modeling and great videos bro!

    Cory, as an almost old timer it awesome to see young blood working the rails. I had to go back twice and listen but, yup, at 6:40-6:47 you made my day. "...I find if you play some good tunes, crack one of your favorite beverages, you'll find that ballasting still sucks." I think you should put this on a T-shirt and sell them. I'd buy one. Thanks for the share.

    Making an N scale rail yard with a beautiful slab of redwood and never made a layout past connecting track so I have no knowledge of how to ballast yet I have everything I need. Watched this twice and I already know exactly how to do it. It is all of my late uncle's stuff and while I don't have room for a layout I would love to make a display so TY.

    Not sure if this will help, or be of use to you, but I use a eyelash brush to evenly distribute the ballast for both in the inside and outside of the rails, as well as to clean the outside ties. The bristles (to me at least) make it easier by just doing one pass, than having to go back and repeat the sweeping process with a brush multiple times. The overall results are still the same, it just saves a little bit of time. I thought I'd just share a technique that you or anyone could use now, or in the future. As always thanks for another great video.

    • @mach37

      I just started ballasting my layout- first I've heard of using an eyelash brush- sounds like it could be better than the flimsy paint brush I've been using. Thanks.

    Loved the informative video. My friends said my ballasting was great but I don’t think as good as yours. I am starting to add a few of your features. On another matter the SD70ace at the end looks like a KATO and if it is what sought of sound decoder is in it? Hard to walk into a hobby shop here in Australia and check out the different types so need to order from the US and want to make sure I get good ones. Regards, Richard.

    Not sure I agree that Ballasting Sucks, I find it to be one of those therapeutic tasks that is a great relief to get your mind off a stressful day in the Office or perhaps other stressful things. When I was into N, rather than Alchohol to damp the Track prior to Glue I used a spray of Water with a drop or two of Washing Up Liquid. Do you have Fairy Liquid State Side? If so ideal. I also use Builders PVA mixed 50/50 with Water and another drop or two of Water. Though when applying the Glue it is a Milky Mess it all dries pretty clear with a slight Green Tinge to the Ballast which will disappear with your Ballast Weathering Techniques. Another thing I have been doing is to lightly oil moving parts on points prior to the Glue as it stops the points being glued up. A point you glossed over in your otherwise super informative vid.

    Hey, Great video and instructions! Question... did I miss a part where you 'glue' the ballast? Should it have been between Iso propol and leave it to dry?

    • @AbelG8781
      @AbelG8781 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You missed it indeed. But in a nutshell, you drop isopropyl onto the ballast carefully, while wet, apply the scenic glue. I dont think waiting between applications is necessary.

    • @mach37
      @mach37 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    tip when ballasting switches cover the switch with tape and mask off the points and hinges so you don't get ballast, glue, or paint on them. also Don't Place Ballast Near the Control Rod if you place anything here you will gum it up and you will have to replace the switch with a Dremel which you don't want to do.

    lol i like ballasting, very meditative and peaceful. It's the wiring that i hate to do, probably from having been a network tech and having done tens of thousands of ethernet splices and crimps, just totally over the "stupid dam wires why are you twisting like that!?!?!" experience. I like the soldering of electronics, it's just the stripping wire ends and crimping connectors and especially running wires through framing, really dislike that part.
