@@JussiPryyl its actually easy if you have played g major 3 string scale before ... play with slow speed for some days and after some days you will get to speed
I'm liking your "no fuss" approach to teaching. Making things instantly useable, without bogging players down with the "why", when that can be learned later when the mechanics have become instinctive.
+surfdigby YUP! This guy would've saved me years if I practiced to these vids in high school.. Very direct, visual apt yet verbally accessible for a multitude of learners. Deserves more subs!
He does teach theory as well, it's just that he makes it clear when he's teaching something practical, when its total theory, and when it's a mix. So he's easy to follow and learn from.
it is awesome to learn a lick that sounds epic like this one does, but if you know more, like scales and progressions, you could take this technique and apply it to your own solos. fun fact: solos is solos backwards.
when I teach people (I'm not a pro teacher, I'm only doing this for family and friends) I always try to teach them a few simple cords first and tell them they don't need to worry about why these work together and why the are in the shapes they are. E, A, G, C, and D first because they can use these 5 on like 90% of accoustic songs, and the ones where these aren't enough, they usually need to learn only one more.

I think Steve is probably the most inspiring music teachers I've come across on the internet. His lessons are geared towards logic and how to apply that whilst a guitar is in your hand, as opposed to simply imparting knowledge and leaving the rest for you to figure out.
i watched many other videos with talented people saying the same things but for some reason i got more out of you, so basically your a good teacher, after 2 vids i already have a faster approach to notes on the fretboard, and soloing, looking forward to explore the rest of your site.. thanks
Thank you, just thank you. I have watched plenty of tutorials, video lessons and whatnot on the web... but in 5 minutes you proved you are different. I was forced to learn music theory as a kid (was playing piano at the time) and it killed it for me. I taught myself how to play the guitar, but I can only play stuff I've learned by heart. I am confident your simple introductory technique is going to change everything for me, because I just get it, and because it's all about having fun! I had been looking for just that. Again, thank you.

Once again Thanks GuitarZoom.com for getting Steve to teach us newbie a trick or two. I watched your session this morning and then went to my first break/practice this afternoon and I played lead.....and it was cool!!!! I also did it with multiple cords. TY GZ & SS!!!
Steve, This is great, I love the way in flows through the strings. You have been more help to me by getting me beyond the pentatonix and miner scales. But to all of you that think you don't need too or feel its a waste of time, the key to playing great lead is all in there in ever lead you have ever hard and ever song. Steve I have made great strides from your lessons, one of witch was the 27 Texas blues licks. when I play a lead I use a lot of the techniques from the Texas blues. Thank you
